Chapter 20

THE PARABLES, MIRACLES, AND PERSONS TO WHOM JESUS SPOKE

PARABLES OF THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (GOD) (7 X 7)

I. Parables of the Son of Man

1 THE SOWER

Christ's word falls on four kinds of hearers. Matt. 13:3-8, 18-23.

2. THE HIDDEN TREASURE

Christ redeems Israel. Matt. 13:44.

Christ purchases the Church. Matt. 13:45-46.

The unconscious but sure growth of the Word planted in the hearts of men by the Lord. Mark 4:26.

5. THE BRIDEGROOM

Christ, the bridegroom, to be taken away from disciples. Matt. 9:15.

6. THE TRUE SHEPHERD

Christ is the Good Shepherd of His Sheep. John 10:1-16.

7. THE VINE AND THE BRANCHES

The relation of Christ to His disciples. John 15:1-8.

II. Parables of Repentance

1. THE LOST SHEEP

Joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth. Luke 15:3-7.

2. THE LOST COIN

Joy among angels over one sinner that repenteth. Luke 15:8-10.

3. THE PRODIGAL SON

The love of the Father for a sinner. Luke 15:11-32.

4. THE PHARISEE AND THE PUBLICAN

Humility necessary in prayer. Luke 18:9-14.

5. THE CREDITOR AND TWO DEBTORS

Those forgiven much love much. Luke 7:41-50.

6. THE UNFINISHED TOWER

2. THE PATCHED GARMENT

The resistance of ritualists to accepting of new spiritual truth. Matt. 9:16.

3. THE WINE-BOTTLES

4. THE MUSTARD SEED

The rapid and unsubstantial initial growth of the kingdom of heaven. Matt. 13:31-32.

5. THE LEAVEN IN THE MEAL

The subtle working of evil doctrine. Matt. 13:33.

6. THE AMBITIOUS GUESTS

A warning against pride and self-exaltation. Luke 14:7-11.

7. THE LABOURERS IN THE VINEYARD

First shall be last and the last first. Matt. 20:1-6.

V. Parables of the Rejection of the Son of Man

1. THE CHILDREN IN THE MARKET PLACE

Illustrative of the fault-finding of the Pharisees. Matt. 11:16-19.

2. THE UNCLEAN SPIRIT

The incorrigibility of the wicked generation which rejected Christ. Matt. 12:43-45.

3. THE BARREN FIG TREE

Warning of judgment on the Jews. Luke 13:6-9.

4. THE TWO SONS

Publicans and harlots to enter kingdom before Pharisees. Matt. 21:28-32.

5. THE MURDEROUS HUSBANDMAN

Kingdom to be taken from Jews. Matt. 21:33-46.

6. THE GREAT SUPPER

Those originally bid to the kingdom shall not taste of the feast. Luke 14:16-24.

7. THE MARRIAGE FEAST

Many called but few are chosen. Matt. 22:1-14.

VI. Parables of the Second Coming of the Son of Man

1. THE FAITHFUL AND UNFAITHFUL SERVANT

One blessed; the other cut asunder at Lord's coming. Matt. 24:45-51.

2. THE MAN ON A FAR JOURNEY

Servants are to watch for the Lord's return at all seasons. Mark 13:34-37. (Compare Luke 12:35-37.)

3. THE BUDDING FIG TREE

When signs fulfilled, coming is nigh. Matt. 24:32-34.

4. THE TEN VIRGINS

Only those ready will enter with the bridegroom into the marriage. Matt. 25:1-3.

5. THE POUNDS

The faithful at Christ's coming are re-warded; unfaithful are judged. Luke 19:11-27.

6. THE TALENTS

Reward is given to the fa:thtul; judgment on the unfaithful. Matt. 25:14-30.

7. THE SHEEP AND THE GOATS

Nations to be judged at Christ's coming. Matt. 25:31-46.

VII. Parables of Judgment

1. THE TARES

Children of the wicked one to be as tares burned at the end of the age. Matt. 13:24-30; 36-43.

2. THE NET

At the end of age angels will sever wicked from just and cast into a furnace of fire. Matt. 13:47-50.

3. THE UNFORGIVING DEBTOR

Those who will not for-give shall not be forgiven. Matt. 18:23-35.

4. THE STRAIT GATE AND WIDE GATE

Those who go down broad way go to destruction. Matt. 7:13-14.

5. THE TWO FOUNDATIONS

Those who do not obey Christ's words are those who build on sand. Matt. 7:24-27.

6. THE RICH FOOL

He that layeth up treasure for himself, is not rich toward God. Luke 12:16-21.

7. THE RICH MAN AND LAZARUS

One must seek salvation during lifetime; riches will not help him in hereafter. Luke 16:19-31.

MIRACLES OF JUDGMENT

MIRACLES OF DELIVERANCE

3. Christ delivers himself from his enemies. Luke 4:30.
