bullet  General Notes:

In the naturalization papers of George Richards, his "place of nativit y" is given as Ireland. On the other hand, when written about in the Biogr aphical & Portrait Cyclopedia of Cambria County [see below], it was indica ted that he was a "native of England." In addition, in all census recor ds of his children, when asked the specific question "place of birth of fa ther," they all responded "England." When many of those censuses were take n, George's wife, Charlotta Bellman Richards, was still alive and in so me cases even living with her children. Some credence should be given to t his written biography and these census records, since one would think Char lotta knew the birthplace of her husband. Researchers, however, should arr ive at their own conclusions.

When son George was written about in the Biographical & Portrait Cycloped ia of Cambria County (pp. 54 and 55), this is what was written about Georg e, Sr.:
"... George Richards, was a native of England, and emigrated to America ab out 1830 or 1831, and located at Carthouse, Clearfield county, Pennsylvani a. From Coalpor t, Clearfield county. His residence here was not permanent, and he soon re turned to Allegheny Ore Bank. He finally located at Lloydsville, at that t ime called Richards Coal bank, this county, where he died in October, 1846 .
He was a member of the old line Whig party, and took a normal intere st in all political affairs. In religious faith he was an ardent memb er of the Lutheran Church."
"His marriage with Charlotta Bellman, a daughter of Jacob Bellman, of Tio ga county, Pennsylvania, resulted in the birth of seven children, three so ns and four daughters: Mary Ann, deceased, who was the wife of Jacob Burg e; John, a veterinary surgeon of Blair county, Pennsylvania; George B; Sar ah Jane, wife of James Bowman, a blacksmith, of Allmansville, Clearfield c ounty; Hannah, deceased, who was the wife of Perrie Harkins; Malinda, dece ased, who was the wife of Isaac Haines, and Emanuel of Madera, Clearfie ld county."
