He moved to Morgan County, Ohio with his mother, brothers and sister Barba ra around 1813 and settle near present-day Deavertown,Ohio.
James and Mary were parents of 15 children, all born in their two sto ry log house built near her parents home. James, often referred to as "Sq uire", was active in community affairs in Ohio and later in Missouri. H is letters to family members told of his being Township Clerk, local Scho ol Board Director and Justice of the Peace in Clinton County, Missouri whe re they lived near several of their children. James and Mary D. Longstre th later lived near Cameron, Missouri, and after John Dodds's death in Oh io Nancy L. Dodds moved to Cameron to make her home with her daughter a nd James. Nancy Laramer Dodds died on July 28, 1873 ar ninety years of ag e. She is buried at Cameron.

For fifty years James longstreth lived on the farm near Deavertown, Oh io on which his mother had located when she came to Ohio. One end of t he hewed log house which " Mother" Longstreth had erected was built and ar ranged for a place of worship, and constituted the home of the Methodist C hurch, of which Samuel Hamilton was pastor at the time the subject of th is sketch was a young girl. The oldest son of James and Mary Longstreth w as named for this much beloved pastor.

In this pioneer home the widowed mother lived and wrought as the wom en of pioneer days had need to, saw her son happily married and his fami ly established and died there.
