George graduatd from M&M High School in the class of 1929. He attendedd O .S.U., Ohio Wesleyan University and later going to the University of Arizo na.
He was engaged in business with his father in the Ace Hi Service Statio n. They had the Mobil Oil distributirship for Morgan County. These were t he days when the gasoline and fuel oil were hauled in by railroad and empt ied into large storage tanks near the station. This business was bui lt on the site where former Hoffman Tannery established 1859 stood for ma ny years. When the horse and buggy days were starting to be a thing of t he past, George Hoffman, an Uncle of George H. Barkhurst and George's fath er, Charles M. Barkhurst, decided to build the service station and have t he tannery torn down. George and his brother Charles continued on with t he business after their father's death untill 1955, when at that time th ey built and operated a drive-in-theater, known as Ace Hi Drive-In, locat ed about 2 miles north of McConnelsville, Ohio on Rt. 60. They so ld it in 1960
