Michael Deaver built a home on the hill east of Renville, Ohio, whe re he lived the remainder of his life. His brother, Frank [Francis] bui lt and exact duplicate on the hill west of Renville, Ohio. Both houses we re standing in 1953. Michael, known to many as "Mike" and "M. L." beca me quite a character in Perry County, Ohio. He was both praised and conde mned by those who knew him, depending upon the viewpoint. He became qui te wealthy, not so much as a farmer, but more as a trader in real estat e, live stock, and other commodities. It is told that he ran a chuck wag on during the Civil War. He was a member of Co. D, 31st Regt. OVI. He ow ned several thousand acres of land in Ohio, as well as considerable city p roperty in Columbus, Ohio. He attended all public sales, appearing wi th a wagon or two manned by his son-in-law. He never lead the biddi ng on anything, but if the bidding seemed to lag, he would make a bid unt il the amount seemed reasonable. Then he would let it go. If there were i tems that no one wanted, he woould bid it in.
