λογους

τουτους

μετηρεν

And

it came to pass

when

Jesus 1

these, 4

he withdrew

απο

της

γαλιλαιας

και

ηλθεν

εις

τα

ορια

της

ιουδαιας

περαν

του

from

♦

Galilee,

and

came

to

the

borders

♦

of Judaea

beyond

the

ιορδανου
Jordan:

και

ηκολουθησαν

αυτω

οχλοι

πολλοι

και

εθεραπευσεν

αυτους

εκει

and

followed 3

him 4

crowds 2

great, 1

and

he healed

them

there.

και

προσηλθον

αυτω

οι

φαρισαιοι

πειραζοντες

αυτον

και

λεγοντες

And

came 3

to 4 him 5

the 1

Pharisees 2

tempting

him,

and

saying

αυτω

ει

εξεστιν

ανθρωπω

απολυσαι

την

γυναικα

αυτου

κατα

to him,

Is it lawful

♦

for a man

to put away

♦

his wife

♦

for

πασαν		αιτιαν
every		cause?

δε

αποκριθεις

ειπεν

αυτοις

ουκ

ανεγνωτε

οτι

ο

But he

♦

answering

said

to them,

Have ye not read

♦

that

he who

ποιησας

απ

αρχης

αρσεν

και

θηλυ

εποιησεν

αυτους

made

[them] from [the]

beginning

male

and

female

made

them,

και

ειπεν

ενεκεν

τουτου

καταλειψει

ανθρωπος

τον

πατερα

και

την

and

said,

On account of

this

shall 3 leave 4

a 1 man 2

♦

father

and

the

μητερα

και

προσκολληθησεται

τη

γυναικι

αυτου

και

εσονται

οι

mother,

and

shall be joined

to his wife,

♦

♦

and

shall 3 be 4

the 1

δυο		εις		σαρκα		μιαν
two 2		for 5		flesh 7		one? 6

ωστε

ουκετι

εισιν

δυο

αλλα

σαρξ

μια

ο

ουν

ο

θεος

συνεζευξεν

So that

no longer

are they

two,

but

flesh 2

one. 1

What

therefore

♦

God

united together,

ανθρωπος		μη		χωριζετω
man[.~3]		let 1 not 2 separate.		♦

λεγουσιν

αυτω

τι

ουν

μωσης

ενετειλατο

δουναι

βιβλιον

αποστασιου

They say

to him,

Why

then

Moses 2

did command 1

to give

a bill

of divorce,

και		απολυσαι		αυτην
and		to put away		her?

λεγει

αυτοις

οτι

μωσης

προς

την

σκληροκαρδιαν

υμων

He says

to them,

♦

Moses

in view of

your hard heartedness

♦

♦

επετρεψεν

υμιν

απολυσαι

τας

γυναικας

υμων

απ

αρχης

allowed

you

to put away

your wives;

♦

♦

from [the]

beginning

δε		ου		γεγονεν		ουτως
however		it was not		♦		thus.

λεγω

δε

υμιν

οτι

ος

αν

απολυση

την

γυναικα

αυτου

ει

μη

επι

And I say

♦

to you,

that

whoever

♦

shall put away

his wife

♦

♦

if

not

for

πορνεια

και

γαμηση

αλλην

μοιχαται

και

ο

απολελυμενην

fornication,

and

shall marry

another,

commits adultery;

and

he who

her 2 [that 3 is] 4 put 5 away 6

γαμησας		μοιχαται
marries 1		commits adultery.

λεγουσιν

αυτω

οι

μαθηται

αυτου

ει

ουτως

εστιν

η

αιτια

Say 3

to 4 him 5

his 1 disciples, 2

♦

If

thus

is

the

case

του

ανθρωπου

μετα

της

γυναικος

ου

συμφερει

γαμησαι

of the

man

with

the

wife,

it is not profitable

♦

to marry.

ο

δε

ειπεν

αυτοις

ου

παντες

χωρουσιν

τον

λογον

τουτον

But he

♦

said

to them,

Not

all

receive

this word,

♦

♦

αλλ		οις		δεδοται
but [those]		to whom		it has been given;

εισιν

γαρ

ευνουχοι

οιτινες

εκ

κοιλιας

μητρος

for there are

♦

eunuchs

who

from [the]

womb

of [their] mother

εγεννηθησαν

ουτως

και

εισιν

ευνουχοι

οιτινες

ευνουχισθησαν

υπο

were born

thus,

and

there are

eunuchs

who

were made eunuchs

by

των

ανθρωπων

και

εισιν

ευνουχοι

οιτινες

ευνουχισαν

εαυτους

♦

men,

and

there are

eunuchs

who

made eunuchs of

themselves

δια

την

βασιλειαν

των

ουρανων

ο

δυναμενος

χωρειν

for the sake of

the

kingdom

of the

heavens.

He who

is able

to receive [it]

χωρειτω
let him receive [it].

τοτε

προσηνεχθη

αυτω

παιδια

ινα

τας

χειρας

επιθη

αυτοις

και

The

were brought

to him

little children,

that

♦

[his] hands

he might lay

on them,

and

προσευξηται

οι

δε

μαθηται

επετιμησαν

αυτοις

might pray;

but the

♦

disciples

rebuked

them.

ο

δε

ιησους

ειπεν

αφετε

τα

παιδια

και

μη

κωλυετε

αυτα

But Jesus

♦

♦

said,

Suffer

the

little children,

and

not 2

do forbid 1

them

ελθειν

προς

με

των

γαρ

τοιουτων

εστιν

η

βασιλεια

των

ουρανων

to come

to

me;

for of such

♦

♦

is

the

kingdom

of the

heavens.

και

επιθεις

αυτοις

τας

χειρας

επορευθη

εκειθεν

And

having laid

upon them

♦

[his] hands

he departed

thence.

16

και

ιδου

εις

προσελθων

ειπεν

αυτω

διδασκαλε

αγαθε

τι

And

behold,

one

having come to [him]

said

to him,

Teacher 2

good, 1

what

αγαθον

ποιησω

ινα

εχω

ζωην

αιωνιον

good [thing]

shall I do

that

I may have

life

eternal?

ο

δε

ειπεν

αυτω

τι

με

λεγεις

αγαθον

ουδεις

αγαθος

ει

μη

And he

♦

said

to him,

Why

me

callest thou

good?

no one [is]

good

except

♦

εις

ο

θεος

ει

δε

θελεις

εισελθειν

εις

την

ζωην

τηρησον

τας

one,

♦

God.

Buf if

♦

thou desirest

to enter

into

♦

life,

keep

the

εντολας
commandments.

λεγει

αυτω

ποιας

ο

δε

ιησους

ειπεν

το

ου

He says

to him,

Which?

And Jesus

♦

♦

said,

♦

Thou shalt not commit murder;

φονευσεις		ου		μοιχευσεις		ου		κλεψεις
♦		Thou shalt not commit adultery;		♦		Thou shalt not steal;		♦

ου		ψευδομαρτυρησεις
Thou shalt not bear false witness;		♦

τον

πατερα

σου

και

την

μητερα

και

αγαπησεις

τον

Honour

♦

father 2

thy 1

and

♦

mother;

and

Thou shalt love

thy neighbour

πλησιον		σου		ως		σεαυτον
♦		♦		as		thyself.

λεγει

αυτω

ο

νεανισκος

παντα

ταυτα

εφυλαξαμην

εκ

νεοτητος

Says 4

All

these

I have kept

from

my youth,

μου		τι		ετι		υστερω
♦		what		yet		lack I?

θελεις

τελειος

ειναι

υπαγε

πωλησον

σου

τα

Said 2

to 3 him 4

Jesus, 1

If

thou desirest

perfect

to be,

go

sell

thy

♦

υπαρχοντα

και

δος

πτωχοις

και

εξεις

θησαυρον

εν

ουρανω

και

property

and

give

to [the] poor,

and

thou shalt have

treasure

in

heaven;

and

δευρο		ακολουθει		μοι
come		follow		me.

ακουσας

δε

ο

νεανισκος

τον

λογον

απηλθεν

λυπουμενος

But having 4 heard 5

♦

the 1

young 2 man 3

the

word

went away

grieved,

ην		γαρ		εχων		κτηματα		πολλα
for he had		♦		♦		possessions		many.

ο

δε

ιησους

ειπεν

τοις

μαθηταις

αυτου

αμην

λεγω

υμιν

οτι

And

♦

Jesus

said

to his disciples,

♦

♦

Verily

I say

to you,

that

δυσκολως

πλουσιος

εισελευσεται

εις

την

βασιλειαν

των

ουρανων

with difficulty

a rich man

shall enter

into

the

kingdom

of the

heavens.

παλιν

δε

λεγω

υμιν

ευκοπωτερον

εστιν

καμηλον

δια

And again

♦

I say

to you,

easier

is

a camel

through [the]

τρυπηματος

ραφιδος

διελθειν

η

πλουσιον

εις

την

βασιλειαν

του

θεου

eye

of a needle

to pass,

than

a rich man

into

the

kingdom

♦

of God

εισελθειν
to enter.

ακουσαντες

δε

οι

μαθηται

αυτου

εξεπλησσοντο

σφοδρα

Having 2 heard 3

and [this] 1

his disciples

♦

♦

were astonished

exceedingly,

λεγοντες		τις		αρα		δυναται		σωθηναι
saying,		Who		then		is able		to be saved?

εμβλεψας

δε

ο

ιησους

ειπεν

αυτοις

παρα

ανθρωποις

τουτο

But looking on [them]

♦

♦

Jesus

said

to them,

With

men

this

αδυνατον

εστιν

παρα

δε

θεω

παντα

δυνατα

εστιν

impossible

is,

but with

♦

God

all things

possible

are.

τοτε

αποκριθεις

ο

πετρος

ειπεν

αυτω

ιδου

ημεις

αφηκαμεν

παντα

και

Then

answering

♦

Peter

said

to him,

Lo,

we

left

all things

and

ηκολουθησαμεν

σοι

τι

αρα

εσται

ημιν

followed

thee;

what

then

shall be

to us?

ο

δε

ιησους

ειπεν

αυτοις

αμην

λεγω

υμιν

οτι

υμεις

οι

And Jesus

♦

♦

said

to them,

Verily

I say

to you,

that

ye

who

ακολουθησαντες

μοι

εν

τη

παλιγγενεσια

οταν

καθιση

ο

υιος

του

having followed

me,

in

the

regeneration,

when

shall sit down

the

Son

♦

ανθρωπου

επι

θρονου

δοξης

αυτου

καθισεσθε

και

υμεις

επι

of man

upon

[the] throne

of his glory,

♦

shall 3 sit 4

also 2

ye 1

on

δωδεκα

θρονους

κρινοντες

τας

δωδεκα

φυλας

του

ισραηλ

twelve

thrones,

judging

the

twelve

tribes

♦

of Israel.

και

πας

ος

αφηκεν

οικιας

η

αδελφους

η

αδελφας

η

πατερα

η

And

every one

who

has left

houses,

or

brothers

or

sisters,

or

father,

or

μητερα

η

γυναικα

η

τεκνα

η

αγρους

ενεκεν

του

ονοματος

μου

mother,

or

wife,

or

children,

or

lands,

for the sake of

my name,

♦

♦

εκατονταπλασιονα

ληψεται

και

ζωην

αιωνιον

κληρονομησει

a hundred-fold

shall receive,

and

life

eternal

shall inherit;

30

πολλοι

δε

εσονται

πρωτοι

εσχατοι

και

εσχατοι

πρωτοι

but many

♦

shall 2 be 3

first 1

last,

and

last

first.
