ΑΠΟΚΑΛΥΨΙΣ ΙΩΑΝΝΟΥ ΤΟΥ ΘΕΟΛΟΓΟΥ

Revelation of John the Theologian

 

CHAPTER 17
  1  και   ηλθεν   εις   εκ   των   επτα   αγγελων   των   εχοντων   τας   επτα   φιαλας  
    And   came   one   of   the   seven   angels   of those   having   the   seven   bowls,  
και   ελαλησεν   μετ   εμου   λεγων   μοι   δευρο   δειξω   σοι   το   κριμα   της  
and   spoke   with   me,   saying   to me,   Come here,   I will shew   thee   the   sentence   of the  
πορνης   της   μεγαλης   της   καθημενης   επι   των   υδατων   των   πολλων    
harlot 1   ♦   great, 1   who   sits   upon   the   waters 2   ♦   many; 1    
  2  μεθ   ης   επορνευσαν   οι   βασιλεις   της   γης   και   εμεθυσθησαν  
    with   whom   committed 6 fornication 7   the 1   kings 2   of 3 the 4   earth; 5   and   were made drunk  
εκ   του   οινου   της   πορνειας   αυτης   οι   κατοικουντες   την  
with   the   wine   of her fornication   ♦   ♦   those that   dwellon   the  
γην    
earth.    
  3  και   απηνεγκεν   με   εις   ερημον   εν   πνευματι   και   ειδον   γυναικα  
    And   he carried away   me   to 4   a 5 wilderness 6   in 1   [the] 2 Spirit; 3   and   I saw   a woman  
καθημενην   επι   θηριον   κοκκινον   γεμον   ονοματων   βλασφημιας   εχον  
sitting   upon   a beast 2   scarlet, 1   full   of names   of blasphemy,   having  
κεφαλας   επτα   και   κερατα   δεκα    
heads 2   seven 1   and   horns 2   ten. 1    
  4  και   η   γυνη   η   περιβεβλημενη   πορφυρα   και   κοκκινω   και   κεχρυσωμενη
    And   the   woman   ♦   clothed in   purple   and   scarlet,   and   decked (lit. gilded)
  χρυσω   και   λιθω   τιμιω   και   μαργαριταις   εχουσα   χρυσουν   ποτηριον   εν  
  with gold   and   stone 2   precious 1   and   pearls,   having   a golden   cup   in  
τη   χειρι   αυτης   γεμον   βδελυγματων   και   ακαθαρτητος   πορνειας  
her hand,   ♦   ♦   full   of abominations   and   of uncleanness   of her fornication;  
αυτης    
♦    
  5  και   επι   το   μετωπον   αυτης   ονομα   γεγραμμενον   μυστηριον  
    and   upon   her forehead   ♦   ♦   a name   written,   Mystery  
βαβυλων   η   μεγαλη   η   μητηρ   των   πορνων   και   των   βδελυγματων   της  
Babylon   the   Great,   the   mother   of the   harlots   and   of the   abominations   of the  
γης    
earth.    
  6  και   ειδον   την   γυναικα   μεθυουσαν   εκ   του   αιματος   των   αγιων   και   εκ  
    And   I saw   the   woman   drunk   with   the   blood   of the   saints,   and   with  
του   αιματος   των   μαρτυρων   ιησου   και   εθαυμασα   ιδων   αυτην  
the   blood   of the   witnesses   of Jesus.   And   I wondered,   having seen   her,  
θαυμα   μεγα    
with wonder 2   great. 1    
  7  και   ειπεν   μοι   ο   αγγελος   δια   τι   εθαυμασας   εγω   σοι  
    And   said 3   to 4 me 5   the 1   angel, 2   Why   didst thou wonder?   I   thee   will tell  
ερω   το   μυστηριον   της   γυναικος   και   του   θηριου   του  
the   mystery   of the   woman,   and   of the   beast   which   carries  
βασταζοντος   αυτην   του   εχοντος   τας   επτα   κεφαλας   και   τα   δεκα    
her,   which   has   the   seven   heads   and   the   ten   horns.    
  8  θηριον   ο   ειδες   ην   και   ουκ   εστιν   και   μελλει   αναβαινειν   εκ  
    [The] beast   which   thou sawest   was,   and   is not,   ♦   and   is about   to come up   out of  
της   αβυσσου   και   εις   απωλειαν   υπαγειν   και   θαυμασονται   οι  
the   abyss,   and   into   destruction   to go;   and   shall wonder   they who  
κατοικουντες   επι   της   γης   ων   ου   γεγραπται   τα   ονοματα   επι  
dwell   on   the   earth,   of whom   are not written   ♦   the   names   in  
το   βιβλιον   της   ζωης   απο   καταβολης   κοσμου   βλεποντες   το   θηριον  
the   book   ♦   of life   from   [the] foundation   of [the] world,   seeing   the   beast  
ο   τι   ην   και   ουκ   εστιν   καιπερ   εστιν    
which   ♦   was   and   not 2   is, 1   and yet   is.    
  9  ωδε   ο   νους   ο   εχων   σοφιαν   αι   επτα   κεφαλαι   ορη   εισιν  
    Here [is]   the   mind   which   has   wisdom:   The   seven   heads   mountains 3   are 1  
επτα   οπου   η   γυνη   καθηται   επ   αυτων    
seven, 2   where   the   woman   sits   on   them.    
  10  και   βασιλεις   επτα   εισιν   οι   πεντε   επεσαν   και   ο   εις   εστιν   ο   αλλος  
    And   kings 4   seven 3   there 1 are: 2   the   five   are fallen,   and   the   one   is,   the   other  
ουπω   ηλθεν   και   οταν   ελθη   ολιγον   αυτον   δει   μειναι    
not 2 yet 3   is come: 1   and   when   he shall have come,   a little while   he must   ♦   remain.    
  11  και   το   θηριον   ο   ην   και   ουκ   εστιν   και   αυτος   ογδοος   εστιν   και   εκ  
    And   the   beast   which   was,   and   not 2   is, 1   also 4   he 3   an 6 eighth 7   is, 5   and   of  
των   επτα   εστιν   και   εις   απωλειαν   υπαγει    
the   seven   is,   and   into   destruction   goes.    
  12  και   τα   δεκα   κερατα   α   ειδες   δεκα   βασιλεις   εισιν   οιτινες  
    And   the   ten   horns   which   thou sawest   ten   kings   are,   which  
βασιλειαν   ουπω   ελαβον   αλλ   εξουσιαν   ως   βασιλεις   μιαν   ωραν  
a 4 kingdom 5   not 2 yet 3   received, 1   but   authority   as   kings   one   hour  
λαμβανουσιν   μετα   του   θηριου    
receive   with   the   beast.    
  13  ουτοι   μιαν   γνωμην   εχουσιν   και   την   δυναμιν   και   την   εξουσιαν  
    These   one   mind   have,   and   the   power   and   the   authority  
εαυτων   τω   θηριω   διαδιδωσουσιν    
of themselves   to the   beast   they shall give up.    
  14  ουτοι   μετα   του   αρνιου   πολεμησουσιν   και   το   αρνιον   νικησει   αυτους  
    These   with   the   Lamb   war will make,   and   the   Lamb   will overcome   them;  
οτι   κυριος   κυριων   εστιν   και   βασιλευς   βασιλεων   και   οι   μετ  
because   Lord   of lords   he is   and   King   of kings:   and   those that [are]   with  
αυτου   κλητοι   και   εκλεκτοι   και   πιστοι    
him,   called,   and   chosen,   and   faithful.    
  15  και   λεγει   μοι   τα   υδατα   α   ειδες   ου   η   πορνη   καθηται   λαοι  
    And   he says   to me,   The   waters   which   thou sawest,   where   the   harlot   sits,   peoples 2  
και   οχλοι   εισιν   και   εθνη   και   γλωσσαι    
and 3   multitudes 4   are, 1   and   nations   and   tongues.    
  16  και   τα   δεκα   κερατα   α   ειδες   επι   το   θηριον   ουτοι   μισησουσιν  
    And   the   ten   horns   which   thou sawest   upon   the   beast,   these   shall hate  
την   πορνην   και   ηρημωμενην   ποιησουσιν   αυτην   και   γυμνην   και   τας  
the   harlot,   and   desolate   shall make   her   and   naked,   and   ♦  
σαρκας   αυτης   φαγονται   και   αυτην   κατακαυσουσιν   εν   πυρι    
flesh 4   her 3   shall 1 eat, 2   and   her 3   shall 1 burn 2   with   fire;    
  17  ο   γαρ   θεος   εδωκεν   εις   τας   καρδιας   αυτων   ποιησαι   την  
    for God   ♦   ♦   gave   to   their hearts   ♦   ♦   to do   ♦  
γνωμην   αυτου   και   ποιησαι   μιαν   γνωμην   και   δουναι   την   βασιλειαν  
mind 2   his, 1   and   to do   one   mind,   and   to give   ♦   kingdom 2  
αυτων   τω   θηριω   αχρι   τελεσθη   τα   ρηματα   του   θεου    
their 1   to the   beast,   until   should be fulfilled   the   sayings   ♦   of God.    
  18  και   η   γυνη   ην   ειδες   εστιν   η   πολις   η   μεγαλη   η   εχουσα  
    And   the   woman   whom   thou sawest   is   the   city 2   ♦   great, 1   which   has  
βασιλειαν   επι   των   βασιλεων   της   γης    
kingship   over   the   kings   of the   earth.
