Revelation of John the Theologian

CHAPTER 5

1

και

ειδον

επι

την

δεξιαν

του

καθημενου

επι

του

θρονου

βιβλιον

And

I saw

on

the

right hand

of him who

sits

upon

the

throne

a book,

γεγραμμενον		εσωθεν		και		οπισθεν		κατεσφραγισμενον		σφραγισιν
written		within		and		on [the] back,		having been sealed		with seals²

επτα
seven.¹

και

ειδον

αγγελον

ισχυρον

κηρυσσοντα

φωνη

μεγαλη

τις

εστιν

And

I saw

angel³

a¹ strong²

proclaiming

with a voice²

loud,¹

Who

is

αξιος

ανοιξαι

το

βιβλιον

και

λυσαι

τας

σφραγιδας

αυτου

worthy

to open

the

book,

and

to loose

the

seals

of it?

και

ουδεις

ηδυνατο

εν

τω

ουρανω

ουδε

επι

της

γης

ουδε

υποκατω

And

no one

was able

in

the

heaven,

nor

upon

the

earth,

nor

under

της

γης

ανοιξαι

το

βιβλιον

ουδε

βλεπειν

αυτο

the

earth,

to open

the

book,

nor

to look at

it.

και

εγω

εκλαιον

πολλα

οτι

ουδεις

αξιος

ευρεθη

ανοιξαι

και

And

I

was weeping

much

because

no one

worthy

was found

to open

and

αναγνωναι

το

βιβλιον

ουτε

βλεπειν

αυτο

to read

the

book,

nor

to look at

it.

και

εις

εκ

των

πρεσβυτερων

λεγει

μοι

μη

κλαιε

ιδου

ενικησεν

And

one

of

the

elders

says,

to me,

Do no weep.

♦

Behold,

overcame³

ο

λεων

ο

ων

εκ

της

φυλης

ιουδα

η

ριζα

δαβιδ

ανοιξαι

το

the¹

Lion²

which

is

of

the

tribe

of Juda,

the

root

of David,

[so as] to open

the

βιβλιον

και

λυσαι

τας

επτα

σφραγιδας

αυτου

book

and

to loose

the

seven

seals

of it.

και

ειδον

και

ιδου

εν

μεσω

του

θρονου

και

των

τεσσαρων

And

I saw,

and

behold,

in

[the] midst

of the

throne

and

of the

four

ζωων

και

εν

μεσω

των

πρεσβυτερων

αρνιον

εστηκος

ως

living creatures,

and

in

[the] midst

of the

elders,

a Lamb

standing

as

εσφαγμενον

εχον

κερατα

επτα

και

οφθαλμους

επτα

οι

εισιν

τα

having been slain,

having

horns²

seven¹

and

eyes²

seven,¹

which

are

the

επτα

του

θεου

πνευματα

τα

απεσταλμενα

εις

πασαν

την

γην

seven

♦

of² God³

Spirits¹

which

have been sent

into

all

the

earth:

7

και

ηλθεν

και

ειληφεν

το

βιβλιον

εκ

της

δεξιας

του

καθημενου

and

he came

and

took

the

book

out of

the

right hand

of him who

sits

	επι		του		θρονου
	on		the		throne.

και

οτε

ελαβεν

το

βιβλιον

τα

τεσσαρα

ζωα

και

οι

And

when

he took

the

book

the

four

living creatures

and

the

εικοσιτεσσαρες

πρεσβυτεροι

επεσον

ενωπιον

του

αρνιου

εχοντες

four-and-twenty

elders

fell

before

the

Lamb,

having

εκαστος

κιθαρας

και

φιαλας

χρυσας

γεμουσας

θυμιαματων

αι

εισιν

αι

each

harps

and

bowls²

golden¹

full

of incenses,

which

are

the

	προσευχαι		των		αγιων
	prayers		of the		saints.

και

αδουσιν

ωδην

καινην

λεγοντες

αξιος

ει

λαβειν

το

βιβλιον

και

And

they sing

a song²

new,¹

saying,

Worthy

art thou

to take

the

book,

and

ανοιξαι

τας

σφραγιδας

αυτου

οτι

εσφαγης

και

ηγορασας

τω

to open

its seals;

♦

♦

because

thou was slain,

and

didst purchase

♦

θεω

ημας

εν

τω

αιματι

σου

εκ

πασης

φυλης

και

γλωσσης

και

to² God³

us¹

by

thy blood,

♦

♦

out of

every

tribe

and

tongue

and

λαου		και		εθνους
people		and		nation,

και

εποιησας

ημας

τω

θεω

ημων

βασιλεις

και

ιερεις

και

and

didst make

us

to our God

♦

♦

kings

and

priests;

and

βασιλευσομεν		επι		της		γης
we shall reign		over		the		earth.

και

ειδον

και

ηκουσα

φωνην

αγγελων

πολλων

κυκλοθεν

του

And

I saw,

and

I heard

[the] voice

of angels²

many¹

around

the

θρονου

και

των

ζωων

και

των

πρεσβυτερων

και

χιλιαδες

throne

and

of the

living creatures

and

of the

elders;

and

thousand

χιλιαδων
of thousands;

λεγοντες

φωνη

μεγαλη

αξιον

εστιν

το

αρνιον

το

εσφαγμενον

saying

with a voice²

loud,¹

Worthy

is

the

Lamb

the

has been slain

λαβειν

την

δυναμιν

και

πλουτον

και

σοφιαν

και

ισχυν

και

τιμην

και

to receive

♦

power,

and

riches,

and

wisdom,

and

strength,

and

honour,

and

δοξαν		και		ευλογιαν
glory,		and		blessing.

και

παν

κτισμα

ο

εστιν

εν

τω

ουρανω

και

εν

τη

γη

και

υποκατω

And

every

creature

which

is

in

to

heaven

and

in

the

earth

and

under

της

γης

και

επι

της

θαλασσης

α

εστιν

και

τα

εν

αυτοις

the

earth,

and

on⁴

the⁵

sea⁶

those¹ that²

are,³

and

the² things³

in⁴

them⁵

παντα

ηκουσα

λεγοντας

τω

καθημενω

επι

του

θρονου

και

τω

all,¹

heard I

saying,

To him who

sits

on

the

throne,

and

to the

αρνιω

η

ευλογια

και

η

τιμη

και

η

δοξα

και

το

κρατος

εις

τους

αιωνας

Lamb,

♦

Blessing,

and

♦

honour,

and

♦

glory,

and

♦

might,

to

the

ages

των		αιωνων
of the		ages.

και

τα

τεσσαρα

ζωα

ελεγον

αμην

και

οι

εικοσιτεσσαρες

And

the

four

living creatures

said,

Amen;

and

the

four-and-twenty

πρεσβυτεροι

επεσαν

και

προσεκυνησαν

ζωντι

εις

τους

αιωνας

των

elders

fell down

and

worshipped [him who]

lives

to

the

ages

of the

αιωνων
ages.
