| That which | was | from | [the] beginning, | that which | we have heard, | that which | we have seen |
| τοις | οφθαλμοις | ημων | ο | εθεασαμεθα | και | αι | χειρες | ημων | |||||||||
| with our eyes, | ♦ | ♦ | that which | we gazed upon | and | ♦ | hands 2 | our 1 |
| εψηλαφησαν | περι | του | λογου | της | ζωης | |||||||
| handled | concerning | the | Word | ♦ | of life; |
| 2 | και | η | ζωη | εφανερωθη | και | εωρακαμεν | και | μαρτυρουμεν | και | ||||||||||
| (and | the | life | was manifested, | and | we have seen, | and | bear witness, | and |
| απαγγελλομεν | υμιν | την | ζωην | την | αιωνιον | ητις | ην | προς | τον | πατερα | και | |||||||||||
| report | to you | the | life 2 | ♦ | eternal, 1 | which | was | with | the | Father, | and |
| εφανερωθη | ημιν | ||||
| was manifested | to us:) |
| 3 | ο | εωρακαμεν | και | ακηκοαμεν | απαγγελλομεν | υμιν | ινα | και | υμεις | ||||||||||
| that which | we have seen | and | have heard | we report | to you, | that | also | ye |
| κοινωνιαν | εχητε | μεθ | ημων | και | η | κοινωνια | δε | η | ημετερα | μετα | του | ||||||||||||
| fellowship | may have | with | us; | and | ♦ | fellowship 2 | indeed 3 | ♦ | our [is] 1 | with | the |
| πατρος | και | μετα | του | υιου | αυτου | ιησου | χριστου | |||||||||
| Father, | and | with | his Son | ♦ | ♦ | Jesus | Christ. |
| 4 | και | ταυτα | γραφομεν | υμιν | ινα | η | χαρα | ημων | η | πεπληρωμενη | ||||||||||||
| And | these things | we write | to you | that | ♦ | joy 2 | our 1 | may be | full. |
| 5 | και | αυτη | εστιν | η | επαγγελια | ην | ακηκοαμεν | απ | αυτου | και | |||||||||||
| And | this | is | the | message | which | we have heard | from | him, | and |
| αναγγελλομεν | υμιν | οτι | ο | θεος | φως | εστιν | και | σκοτια | εν | αυτω | |||||||||||
| announce | to you, | that | ♦ | God | light 2 | is, 1 | and | darkness | in | him |
| ουκ | εστιν | ουδεμια | ||||
| is not any at all. | ♦ | ♦ |
| 6 | εαν | ειπωμεν | οτι | κοινωνιαν | εχομεν | μετ | αυτου | και | εν | τω | σκοτει | ||||||||||||
| If | we should say | that | fellowship | we have | with | him, | and | in | ♦ | darkness |
| περιπατωμεν | ψευδομεθα | και | ου | ποιουμεν | την | αληθειαν | ||||||||
| should walk, | we lie, | and | do not practise | ♦ | the | truth. |
| 7 | εαν | δε | εν | τω | φωτι | περιπατωμεν | ως | αυτος | εστιν | εν | τω | φωτι | |||||||||||||
| But if | ♦ | in | the | light | we should walk, | as | he | is | in | the | light, |
| κοινωνιαν | εχομεν | μετ | αλληλων | και | το | αιμα | ιησου | χριστου | του | υιου | |||||||||||
| fellowship | we have | with | one another, | and | the | blood | of Jesus | Christ | ♦ | Son 2 |
| αυτου | καθαριζει | ημας | απο | πασης | αμαρτιας | |||||||
| his 1 | cleanses | us | from | every | sin. |
| 8 | εαν | ειπωμεν | οτι | αμαρτιαν | ουκ | εχομεν | εαυτους | πλανωμεν | και | ||||||||||
| If | we should say | that | sin | we have not, | ♦ | ourselves | we deceive, | and |
| η | αληθεια | ουκ | εστιν | εν | ημιν | |||||||
| the | truth | is not | ♦ | in | us. |
| 9 | εαν | ομολογωμεν | τας | αμαρτιας | ημων | πιστος | εστιν | και | δικαιος | ινα | |||||||||||
| If | we should confess | our sins, | ♦ | ♦ | faithful | he is | and | righteous, | that |
| αφη | ημιν | τας | αμαρτιας | και | καθαριση | ημας | απο | πασης | αδικιας | |||||||||
| he may forgive | us | the | sins, | and | may cleanse | us | from | all | unrighteousness. |
| 10 | εαν | ειπωμεν | οτι | ουχ | ημαρτηκαμεν | ψευστην | ποιουμεν | ||||||||
| If | we should say | that | we have not sinned, | ♦ | a liar | we make |
| αυτον | και | ο | λογος | αυτου | ουκ | εστιν | εν | ημιν | ||||||||||
| him, | and | ♦ | word 2 | his 1 | is not | ♦ | in | us. |
