1 | εγενοντο | δε | και | ψευδοπροφηται | εν | τω | λαω | ως | και | εν | υμιν | ||||||||||||
But there were | ♦ | also | false prophets | among | the | people, | as | also | among | you |
εσονται | ψευδοδιδασκαλοι | οιτινες | παρεισαξουσιν | αιρεσεις | απωλειας | ||||||
will be | false teachers, | who | will bring in stealthily | sects 2 | destructive, 1 |
και | τον | αγορασαντα | αυτους | δεσποτην | αρνουμενοι | επαγοντες | εαυτοις | ||||||||
and | the 2 | who 4 bought 5 | them 6 | Master 3 | denying, 1 | bringing upon | themselves |
ταχινην | απωλειαν | |||
swift | destruction; |
2 | και | πολλοι | εξακολουθησουσιν | αυτων | ταις | απωλειαις | δι | ους | η | ||||||||||
and | many | will follow after | their | ♦ | destructive ways, | through | whom | the |
οδος | της | αληθειας | βλασφημηθησεται | |||||
way | of the | truth | will be evil spoken of. |
3 | και | εν | πλεονεξια | πλαστοις | λογοις | υμας | εμπορευσονται | οις | |||||||||
And | through | covetousness | with well-turned | words | you | they will make gain of: | for whom |
το | κριμα | εκπαλαι | ουκ | αργει | και | η | απωλεια | αυτων | |||||||||
♦ | judgment | of old | is not idle, | ♦ | and | their destruction | ♦ | ♦ |
ου | νυσταζει | |||
slumbers not. | ♦ |
4 | ει | γαρ | ο | θεος | αγγελων | αμαρτησαντων | ουκ | εφεισατο | αλλα | ||||||||||
For if | ♦ | ♦ | God | [the] angels | who sinned | spared not, | ♦ | but |
σειραις | ζοφου | ταρταρωσας | παρεδωκεν | εις | |||||
to 8 chains 9 | of 10 darkness 11 | having 1 cast 2 [them] 3 to 4 the 5 deepest 6 abyss 7 | delivered [them] | for |
κρισιν | τετηρημενους | |||
judgment | having been kept; |
5 | και | αρχαιου | κοσμου | ουκ | εφεισατο | αλλ | ογδοον | νωε | δικαιοσυνης | ||||||||||
and | [the] ancient | world | not 2 | spared, 1 | but | [the] 3 eighth 4 | Noe 2 | of 7 righteousness 8 |
κηρυκα | εφυλαξεν | κατακλυσμον | κοσμω | ασεβων | επαξας | |||||||
a 5 herald 6 | preserved, 1 | [the] flood upon | [the] world | of [the] ungodly | having brought in; |
6 | και | πολεις | σοδομων | και | γομορρας | τεφρωσας | καταστροφη | ||||||||
and | [the] cities | of Sodom | and | Gomorrha | having reduced to ashes | with an overthrow |
κατεκρινεν | υποδειγμα | μελλοντων | ασεβειν | τεθεικως | ||||||
condemned [them], | an 3 example 4 [to 5 those] 6 | being 7 about 8 | to 9 live 10 ungodly 11 | having 1 set; 2 |
7 | και | δικαιον | λωτ | καταπονουμενον | υπο | της | των | αθεσμων | εν | ||||||||||
and | righteous | Lot, | oppressed | by | the | of 4 the 5 | lawless 6 | in 2 |
ασελγεια | αναστροφης | ερρυσατο | ||||
licentiousness 3 | conduct 1 | he delivered, |
8 | βλεμματι | γαρ | και | ακοη | ο | δικαιος | εγκατοικων | εν | αυτοις | ||||||||||
(through 2 seeing 3 | for 1 | and | hearing, | the | righteous [man], | dwelling | among | them, |
ημεραν | εξ | ημερας | ψυχην | δικαιαν | ανομοις | εργοις | εβασανιζεν | |||||||||
day | by | day | [his] 2 soul 4 | righteous 3 | with 5 [their] 6 lawless 7 | works 8 | tormented,) 1 |
9 | οιδεν | κυριος | ευσεβεις | εκ | πειρασμου | ρυεσθαι | αδικους | ||||||||
knows 11 | [the] 9 Lord 10 | [how the] pious | out of | temptation | to deliver, | and [the] unrighteous |
δε | εις | ημεραν | κρισεως | κολαζομενους | τηρειν | |||||||
♦ | to | a day | of judgment | to 3 be 4 punished 5 | to 1 keep; 2 |
10 | μαλιστα | δε | τους | οπισω | σαρκος | εν | επιθυμια | μιασμου | |||||||||
and specially | ♦ | those who | after | [the] flesh | in | [the] lust | of pollution |
πορευομενους | και | κυριοτητος | καταφρονουντας | τολμηται | αυθαδεις | ||||||
walk, | and | lordship | despise. | [They are] daring, | self-willed; |
δοξας | ου | τρεμουσιν | βλασφημουντες | |||||
glories 7 | they 1 tremble 2 not 3 | ♦ | speaking 4 evil 5 of; 6 |
11 | οπου | αγγελοι | ισχυι | και | δυναμει | μειζονες | οντες | ου | φερουσιν | ||||||||||
where | angels | in 3 strength 4 | and 5 | power 6 | greater 2 | being, 1 | not 8 | do bring 7 |
κατ | αυτων | παρα | κυριω | βλασφημον | κρισιν | |||||||
against | them, | before | [the] Lord, | a railing | charge. |
12 | ουτοι | δε | ως | αλογα | ζωα | φυσικα | γεγενημενα | εις | αλωσιν | και | |||||||||||
But these, | ♦ | as | irrational 2 | animals 3 | natural 1 | born | for | capture | and |
φθοραν | εν | οις | αγνοουσιν | βλασφημουντες | εν | τη | |||||||
corruption, | in 3 | what 4 | they 5 are 6 ignorant 7 of 8 | speaking 1 evil, 2 | in | their corruption |
φθορα | αυτων | καταφθαρησονται | ||||
♦ | ♦ | shall utterly perish, |
13 | κομιουμενοι | μισθον | αδικιας | ηδονην | ηγουμενοι | την | |||||||
being about to receive | [the] reward | of unrighteousness; | pleasure 4 | esteeming 1 | ♦ |
εν | ημερα | τρυφην | σπιλοι | και | μωμοι | εντρυφωντες | εν | ταις | |||||||||
ephemeral 2 | ♦ | indulgence; 3 | spots | and | blemishes, | luxuriating | in | ♦ |
απαταις | αυτων | συνευωχουμενοι | υμιν | |||||
deceits 2 | their, 1 | feasting with | you; |
14 | οφθαλμους | εχοντες | μεστους | μοιχαλιδος | και | ακαταπαυστους | |||||||
eyes | having | full | of an adulteress, | and | that cease not |
αμαρτιας | δελεαζοντες | ψυχας | αστηρικτους | καρδιαν | γεγυμνασμενην | ||||||
from sin, | alluring | souls | unestablished; | a 2 heart 3 | exercised 4 |
πλεονεξιαις | εχοντες | καταρας | τεκνα | |||||
in 5 craving 6 | having 1 | of 8 curse 9 | children; 7 |
15 | καταλιποντες | την | ευθειαν | οδον | επλανηθησαν | εξακολουθησαντες | τη | |||||||
having left | the | straight | way, | they went astray, | having followed | in the |
οδω | του | βαλααμ | του | βοσορ | ος | μισθον | αδικιας | ηγαπησεν | |||||||||||
way | ♦ | of Balaam, | ♦ | [son] of Bosor, | who | [the] reward | of unrighteousness | loved; |
16 | ελεγξιν | δε | εσχεν | ιδιας | παρανομιας | υποζυγιον | αφωνον | εν | |||||||||
but reproof | ♦ | had | of his own | wickedness, | [the] beast 2 of 3 burden 4 | dumb, 1 | in |
ανθρωπου | φωνη | φθεγξαμενον | εκωλυσεν | την | του | προφητου | |||||||
man’s | voice | speaking, | forbade | the | of 2 the 3 | prophet 4 |
παραφρονιαν | ||
madness. 1 |
17 | ουτοι | εισιν | πηγαι | ανυδροι | νεφελαι | υπο | λαιλαπος | ελαυνομεναι | |||||||||
These | are | fountains | without water, | clouds | by | storm | being driven, |
οις | ο | ζοφος | του | σκοτους | εις | αιωνα | τετηρηται | |||||||||
to whom | the | gloom | ♦ | of darkness | for ever | ♦ | is kept. |
18 | υπερογκα | γαρ | ματαιοτητος | φθεγγομενοι | δελεαζουσιν | εν | |||||||
For great swelling [words] | ♦ | of vanity | speaking, | they allure | with |
επιθυμιαις | σαρκος | ασελγειαις | τους | οντως | αποφυγοντας | ||||||
[the] desires | of [the] flesh, | by licentiousnesses, | those who | indeed | escaped from |
τους | εν | πλανη | αναστρεφομενους | |||||
those who | in 2 | error 3 | walk, 1 |
19 | ελευθεριαν | αυτοις | επαγγελλομενοι | αυτοι | δουλοι | υπαρχοντες | της | ||||||||
freedom 6 | them 5 | promising, 4 | themselves | bondmen 2 | being 1 | ♦ |
φθορας | ω | γαρ | τις | ηττηται | τουτω | και | δεδουλωται | |||||||||
of corruption; | for by whom | ♦ | anyone | has been subdued, | by him | also | he is held in bondage. |
20 | ει | γαρ | αποφυγοντες | τα | μιασματα | του | κοσμου | εν | επιγνωσει | ||||||||||
For if | ♦ | having escaped | the | pollutions | of the | world | through | [the] knowledge |
του | κυριου | και | σωτηρος | ιησου | χριστου | τουτοις | δε | παλιν | |||||||||
of the | Lord | and | Saviour | Jesus | Christ, | but by 8 these 9 | ♦ | again 1 |
εμπλακεντες | ηττωνται | γεγονεν | αυτοις | τα | εσχατα | χειρονα | |||||||
having 2 been 3 entangled 4 | they 5 are 6 subdued, 7 | has become | to them | the | last [state] | worse |
των | πρωτων | |||
than the | first. |
21 | κρειττον | γαρ | ην | αυτοις | μη | επεγνωκεναι | την | οδον | της | δικαιοσυνης | |||||||||||
Better 2 | for 1 | it were | for them | not | to have known | the | way | ♦ | of righteousness, |
η | επιγνουσιν | επιστρεψαι | εκ | της | παραδοθεισης | αυτοις | αγιας | ||||||||
than | having known [it] | to have turned | from | the | delivered 3 | to 4 them 5 | holy 1 |
εντολης | ||
commandment. 2 |
22 | συμβεβηκεν | δε | αυτοις | το | της | αληθους | παροιμιας | κυων | |||||||||
But has happened | ♦ | to them | the [word] | of the | true | proverb: | [The] dog |
επιστρεψας | επι | το | ιδιον | εξεραμα | και | υς | λουσαμενη | εις | |||||||||
having returned | to | his own | ♦ | vomit; | and, | [The] sow 2 | washed, 1 | to [her] |
κυλισμα | βορβορου | |||
rolling place | in [the] mire. |
