ΠΕΤΡΟΥ ΚΑΘΟΛΙΚΗ ΕΠΙΣΤΟΛΗ ΠΡΩΤΗ

First Epistle of Peter the Theologian

 

CHAPTER 4
  1  χριστου   ουν   παθοντος   υπερ   ημων   σαρκι   και   υμεις   την   αυτην  
    Christ   then   having suffered   for   us   in [the] flesh,   also   ye   the 4   same 5  
εννοιαν   οπλισασθε   οτι   ο   παθων   εν   σαρκι   πεπαυται  
mind 6   arm 1 yourselves 2 with; 3   for   he that   suffered   in   [the] flesh   has done with  
αμαρτιας    
sin;    
  2  εις   το   μηκετι   ανθρωπων   επιθυμιαις   αλλα   θεληματι   θεου   τον  
    ♦   ♦   no longer   men’s 10   to 9 lusts, 11   but 12   to 13 will 15   God’s 14   the 3  
επιλοιπον   εν   σαρκι   βιωσαι   χρονον    
remaining 4   in 6   [the] 7 flesh 8   to 1 live 2   time. 5    
  3  αρκετος   γαρ   ημιν   ο   παρεληλυθως   χρονος   του   βιου   το   θελημα  
    For [is] sufficient   ♦   for us   the   past   time   ♦   of life   the   will  
των   εθνων   κατεργασασθαι   πεπορευμενους   εν   ασελγειαις   επιθυμιαις  
of the   nations   to have worked out,   having walked   in   licentiousness,   lusts,  
οινοφλυγιαις   κωμοις   ποτοις   και   αθεμιτοις   ειδωλολατρειαις    
wine-drinking,   revels,   drinkings,   and   unhallowed   idolatries.    
  4  εν   ω   ξενιζονται   μη   συντρεχοντων   υμων   εις   την   αυτην   της  
    Wherein   ♦   they think it strange   not 2   running 3 with 4 [them] 5   your 1   to   the   same   ♦  
ασωτιας   αναχυσιν   βλασφημουντες    
of 2 dissoluteness 3   overflow, 1   speaking evil [of you];    
  5  οι   αποδωσουσιν   λογον   τω   ετοιμως   εχοντι   κριναι   ζωντας   και  
    who   shall render   account   to him   ready 3   who 1 is 2   to judge   [the] living   and  
νεκρους    
[the] dead.    
  6  εις   τουτο   γαρ   και   νεκροις   ευηγγελισθη   ινα  
    For to this [end]   ♦   ♦   also   to [the] dead   were the glad tidings announced,   that  
κριθωσιν   μεν   κατα   ανθρωπους   σαρκι   ζωσιν   δε  
they might be judged   indeed   as regards   men   in [the] flesh;   but might live   ♦  
κατα   θεον   πνευματι    
as regards   God   in [the] Spirit.    
  7  παντων   δε   το   τελος   ηγγικεν   σωφρονησατε   ουν   και   νηψατε
    But of all things   ♦   the   end   has drawn near:   be sober-minded   therefore,   and   be watchful
  εις   τας   προσευχας    
  unto   ♦   prayers;    
  8  προ   παντων   δε   την   εις   εαυτους   αγαπην   εκτενη   εχοντες   οτι  
    before 2   all 3 things 4   but 1   ♦   among   yourselves   love 3   fervent 2   having, 1   because  
αγαπη   καλυψει   πληθος   αμαρτιων    
love   will cover   a multitude   of sins;    
  9  φιλοξενοι   εις   αλληλους   ανευ   γογγυσμων    
    hospitable   to   one another,   without   murmurings;    
  10  εκαστος   καθως   ελαβεν   χαρισμα   εις   εαυτους   αυτο   διακονουντες  
    each   according as   he received   a gift,   to   each other   it 2   serving, 1  
ως   καλοι   οικονομοι   ποικιλης   χαριτος   θεου    
as   good   stewards   of [the] various   grace   of God.    
  11  ει   τις   λαλει   ως   λογια   θεου   ει   τις   διακονει   ως   εξ   ισχυος   ης  
    If   anyone   speaks--   as   oracles   of God;   if   anyone   serves--   as   of   strength   which  
χορηγει   ο   θεος   ινα   εν   πασιν   δοξαζηται   ο   θεος   δια   ιησου   χριστου  
supplies   ♦   God;   that   in   all things   may be glorified   ♦   God   through   Jesus   Christ,  
ω   εστιν   η   δοξα   και   το   κρατος   εις   τους   αιωνας   των   αιωνων   αμην    
to whom   is   the   glory   and   the   might   to   the   ages   of the   ages.   Amen.    
  12  αγαπητοι   μη   ξενιζεσθε   τη   εν   υμιν   πυρωσει  
    Beloved,   take not as strange   ♦   the   amongst 4   you 5   fire 1 [of 2 persecution] 3  
προς   πειρασμον   υμιν   γινομενη   ως   ξενου   υμιν  
for   trial   to you   [which is] taking place,   as if   a strange thing   to you  
συμβαινοντος    
[is] happening;    
  13  αλλα   καθο   κοινωνειτε   τοις   του   χριστου   παθημασιν   χαιρετε   ινα  
    but   according as   ye have share   in the   ♦   of 2 Christ 3   sufferings, 1   rejoice,   that  
και   εν   τη   αποκαλυψει   της   δοξης   αυτου   χαρητε   αγαλλιωμενοι    
also   in   the   revelation   ♦   of glory 2   his 1   ye may rejoice   exulting.    
  14  ει   ονειδιζεσθε   εν   ονοματι   χριστου   μακαριοι   οτι   το   της  
    If   ye are reproached   in   [the] name   of Christ,   blessed [are ye];   because   the [spirit]   ♦  
δοξης   και   το   του   θεου   πνευμα   εφ   υμας   αναπαυεται   κατα   μεν  
of glory   and   the   ♦   of 2 God 3   Spirit 1   upon   you   rests;   on their part   ♦  
αυτους   βλασφημειται   κατα   δε   υμας   δοξαζεται    
♦   he is blasphemed,   but on your part   ♦   ♦   he is glorified.    
  15  μη   γαρ   τις   υμων   πασχετω   ως   φονευς   η   κλεπτης   η  
    Assuredly not 2   ♦   anyone 3   of 4 you 5   let suffer 1   as   a murderer,   or   thief,   or  
κακοποιος   η   ως   αλλοτριοεπισκοπος    
evil doer,   or   as   overlooker of other people’s matters;    
  16  ει   δε   ως   χριστιανος   μη   αισχυνεσθω   δοξαζετω   δε   τον   θεον  
    but if   ♦   as   a christian,   not 3   let 1 him 2 be ashamed,   but let him glorify   ♦   ♦   God  
εν   τω   μερει   τουτω    
in   ♦   respect 2   this. 1    
  17  οτι   ο   καιρος   του   αρξασθαι   το   κριμα   απο   του   οικου   του  
    Because   the   time [for]   ♦   to 3 have 4 begun 5   the 1   judgment 2   from   the   house   ♦  
θεου   ει   δε   πρωτον   αφ   ημων   τι   το   τελος   των   απειθουντων  
of God [is come];   but if   ♦   first   from   us,   what   the   end   of those   disobeying  
τω   του   θεου   ευαγγελιω    
the   ♦   of 3 God 4   glad 1 tidings? 2    
  18  και   ει   ο   δικαιος   μολις   σωζεται   ο   ασεβης   και   αμαρτωλος   που  
    And   if   the   righteous   with difficulty   is saved,   the 3   ungodly 4   and 5   sinner 6   where 1  
φανειται    
shall appear? 2    
  19  ωστε   και   οι   πασχοντες   κατα   το   θελημα   του   θεου   ως  
    Wherefore   also   they who   suffer   according to   the   will   ♦   of God   as  
πιστω   κτιστη   παρατιθεσθωσαν   τας   ψυχας   εαυτων   εν   αγαθοποιια    
to a faithful   Creator   let them commit   their souls   ♦   ♦   in   well doing.
