Epistle to the Hebrews

 

CHAPTER 5
  πας   γαρ   αρχιερευς   εξ   ανθρωπων   λαμβανομενος   υπερ  
    For every     high priest   from among   men   being taken   for  
ανθρωπων   καθισταται   τα   προς   τον   θεον   ινα   προσφερη   δωρα   τε  
men   is constituted   in things   relating to     God,   that   he may offer   both gifts    
και   θυσιας   υπερ   αμαρτιων    
and   sacrifices   for   sins;    
  μετριοπαθειν   δυναμενος   τοις   αγνοουσιν   και   πλανωμενοις  
    to 3 exercise 4 forbearance 5   being 1 able 2   with those   being ignorant   and   erring,  
επει   και   αυτος   περικειται   ασθενειαν    
since   also   himself   is encompassed with   infirmity;    
  και   δια   ταυτην   οφειλει   καθως   περι   του   λαου   ουτως   και   περι  
    and   on account of   this [infirmity]   he out,   even as   for   the   people,   so   also   for  
εαυτου   προσφερειν   υπερ   αμαρτιων    
himself   to offer   for   sins.    
  και   ουχ   εαυτω   τις   λαμβανει   την   τιμην   αλλα   ο   καλουμενος   υπο   του
    And   not   to himself   anyone   takes   the   honour,   but   he   being called   by  
  θεου   καθαπερ   και   ο   ααρων    
  God,   even as   also     Aaron.    
  ουτως   και   ο   χριστος   ουχ   εαυτον   εδοξασεν   γενηθηναι   αρχιερεα   αλλ  
    Thus   also   the   Christ   not   himself   did glorify   to become   a high priest;   but  
ο   λαλησας   προς   αυτον   υιος   μου   ει   συ   εγω   σημερον   γεγεννηκα  
he who   said   to   him,   Son 2   my 1   art   thou,   I   to-day   have begotten thee.  
σε    
   
  καθως   και   εν   ετερω   λεγει   συ   ιερευς   εις   τον   αιωνα  
    Even as   also   in   another [place]   he says,   Thou [art]   a priest   for ever      
κατα   την   ταξιν   μελχισεδεκ    
according to   the   order   of Melchisedec.    
  ος   εν   ταις   ημεραις   της   σαρκος   αυτου   δεησεις   τε   και  
    Who   in   the   days   of his flesh       both supplications     and  
ικετηριας   προς   τον   δυναμενον   σωζειν   αυτον   εκ   θανατου   μετα  
entreaties   to 3   him 4 who 5   [was] 6 able 7   to 8 save 9   him 10   from 11   death, 12   with 13  
κραυγης   ισχυρας   και   δακρυων   προσενεγκας   και   εισακουσθεις   απο  
crying 15   strong 14   and 16   tears 17   having 1 offered, 2   and   having been heard   in  
της   ευλαβειας    
that [he] feared;      
  καιπερ   ων   υιος   εμαθεν   αφ   ων   επαθεν   την   υπακοην    
    though   being   a son,   he learned,   from   the things which   he suffered,     obedience;    
  και   τελειωθεις   εγενετο   τοις   υπακουουσιν   αυτω   πασιν  
    and   having been perfected   became   to those 2 that 3   obey 4   him 5   all, 1  
αιτιος   σωτηριας   αιωνιου    
author   of salvation 2   eternal; 1    
  10  προσαγορευθεις   υπο   του   θεου   αρχιερευς   κατα   την   ταξιν  
    having been saluted   by     God   [as] high priest   according to   the   order  
μελχισεδεκ    
of Melchisedec.    
  11  περι   ου   πολυς   ημιν   ο   λογος   και   δυσερμηνευτος  
    Concerning   whom   [is] 3 much 4   our 1 discourse 2       and   difficult in interpretation  
λεγειν   επει   νωθροι   γεγονατε   ταις   ακοαις    
to speak,   since   sluggish   ye have become   in hearing.      
  12  και   γαρ   οφειλοντες   ειναι   διδασκαλοι   δια   τον   χρονον   παλιν  
    For truly     [when ye] ought   to be   teachers   because of   the   time,   again  
χρειαν   εχετε   του   διδασκειν   υμας   τινα   τα   στοιχεια   της  
need   ye have   of [one] to teach     you   what [are]   the   elements   of the  
αρχης   των   λογιων   του   θεου   και   γεγονατε   χρειαν   εχοντες   γαλακτος  
beginning   of the   oracles     of God,   and   have become   need 2   having 1   of milk,  
και   ου   στερεας   τροφης    
and   not   of solid   food;    
  13  πας   γαρ   ο   μετεχων   γαλακτος   απειρος   λογου   δικαιοσυνης
    for everyone     that   partakes   of milk   [is] unskilled   in [the] word   of righteousness,
  νηπιος   γαρ   εστιν    
  for an infant     he is;    
  14  τελειων   δε   εστιν   η   στερεα   τροφη   των   δια   την  
    but for 4 [the] 5 fully 6 grown 7     is 3     solid 1   food, 2   who   on account of    
εξιν   τα   αισθητηρια   γεγυμνασμενα   εχοντων   προς   διακρισιν   καλου   τε
habit   the 2   senses 3   exercised 4   have 1   for   distinguishing   good 2   both 1
  και   κακου    
  and   evil.
