CHAPTER 2

προσεχειν

On account of

this

it behoves

more abundantly

us

to give heed

to the things

ακουσθεισιν		μηποτε		παραρρυωμεν
heard,		lest at any time		we should slip away.

αγγελων

λαληθεις

λογος

εγενετο

βεβαιος

και

πασα

For if

confirmed,

παραβασις

παρακοη

ελαβεν

ενδικον

μισθαποδοσιαν

transgression

and

disobedience

received

just

recompense,

εκφευξομεθα

τηλικαυτης

αμελησαντες

σωτηριας

ητις

how

shall escape 1

a salvation?

which

Lord,

θεου

σημειοις

τε

τερασιν

bearing 10 witness 11 with 12 [them] 13

and

wonders,

and

ποικιλαις

δυναμεσιν

πνευματος

αγιου

μερισμοις

κατα

την

various

acts of power,

and

of 2 [the] 3 Spirit 5

distributions,

according to

his		will.

αγγελοις

υπεταξεν

την

οικουμενην

την

μελλουσαν

περι

For not

to angels

did he subject

the

habitable world

which

is to come,

of

ης		λαλουμεν
which		we speak;

διεμαρτυρατο

τις

λεγων

τι

εστιν

ανθρωπος

οτι

but fully 2 testified 3

somewhere 4

saying,

What

is

man,

that

μιμνησκη

υιος

ανθρωπου

επισκεπτη

αυτον

thou art mindful

of him,

or

son

of man,

that

thou visitest

him?

αγγελους

δοξη

with glory

εστεφανωσας

honour

thou didst crown

him,

and

didst set

him

over

the

works

of thy hands;

thou didst subject

his feet.

subjecting

to him

all things,

nothing

he left

to him

unsubject.

But now

παντα

υποτεταγμενα

not yet

do we see

to him

all things

♦

subjected;

ηλαττωμενον

βλεπομεν

ιησουν

δια

παθημα

του

θανατου

δοξη

και

we 1 see 2

Jesus 3

on account of

the

suffering

♦

of death

with glory

and

τιμη		εστεφανωμενον		οπως		χαριτι		θεου		υπερ
with honour		crowned;		so that		by [the] grace		of God		for

παντος		γευσηται		θανατου
every one (or every thing)		he might taste		death.

For it was becoming

to him,

whom [are]

all things

♦

and

by

whom [are]

παντα

πολλους

υιους

εις

δοξαν

αγαγοντα

τον

αρχηγον

all things,

many

sons

to

glory

bringing,

the

leader

της

σωτηριας

αυτων

δια

παθηματων

τελειωσαι

of their salvation

♦

♦

through

sufferings

to make perfect.

τε

γαρ

αγιαζων

και

οι

αγιαζομενοι

εξ

ενος

παντες

δι

For both he who

♦

sanctifies

and

those

sanctified

of

one

[are] all;

for

ην

αιτιαν

ουκ

επαισχυνεται

αδελφους

αυτους

καλειν

which

cause

he is not ashamed

brethren 4

απαγγελω

το

ονομα

σου

τοις

αδελφοις

μου

saying,

I will declare

thy name

to my brethren;

♦

in

μεσω		εκκλησιας		υμνησω		σε
[the] midst		of [the] assembly		I will sing praise to thee.		♦

πεποιθως

παλιν

And

again,

I

will be

trusting

in

him.

And

again,

Behold

I

and

the

παιδια

α

μοι

εδωκεν

ο

θεος

children

which

me

κεκοινωνηκεν

σαρκος

αιματος

αυτος

Since

therefore

the

children

have partaken

of flesh

and

blood,

also

he

παραπλησιως

μετεσχεν

των

αυτων

ινα

δια

του

θανατου

in like manner

took part in

the same,

that

through

death

καταργηση

κρατος

εχοντα

του

θανατου

τουτ

εστιν

τον

he might annul

him who

that is,

the

devil;

απαλλαξη

οσοι

φοβω

θανατου

δια

παντος

and

might set free

those

whosoever

by fear

of death

through

all

their lifetime

	ζην		ενοχοι		ησαν		δουλειας

γαρ

δηπου

αγγελων

επιλαμβανεται

αλλα

σπερματος

αβρααμ

For not

♦

indeed

of angels

takes he hold,

but

of [the] seed

of Abraham

επιλαμβανεται
he takes hold.

17

οθεν

ωφειλεν

κατα

παντα

τοις

αδελφοις

ομοιωθηναι

Wherefore

it behoved [him]

in

all things

to [his] brethren

♦

to be made like,

ινα

ελεημων

γενηται

και

πιστος

αρχιερευς

τα

προς

τον

θεον

that

a merciful

faithful 2

high 3 priest 4

[in] things

relating to

God,

εις

το

ιλασκεσθαι

τας

αμαρτιας

του

λαου

for

♦

to make propitiation for

the

sins

of the

people;

εν

ω

γαρ

πεπονθεν

αυτος

πειρασθεις

δυναται

τοις

for in that

♦

♦

he has 2 suffered 3

himself 1

having been tempted,

he is able

those

πειραζομενοις		βοηθησαι
being tempted		to help.
