First Epistle to Timothy

CHAPTER 1
Paul,   apostle   of Jesus   Christ   according to   [the] command   of God   our Saviour,
and   of [the] Lord   Jesus   Christ     our hope,
to Timotheus,   [my] true   child   in   faith;   grace,   mercy,   peace,   from   God
our Father     and   Christ   Jesus   our Lord.
Even as   I besought   thee   to remain   in   Ephesus,   [when I was] going   to
Macedonia,   that   thou mightest charge   some   not   to teach other doctrines,
nor   to give heed   to fables   and   genealogies 2   interminable, 1   which   questionings 2
bring 1   rather   than   administration 2   God’s 1   which [is]   in   faith.
But the     end   of the   charge   is   love   out of   pure 2   a heart 1
and   a conscience 2   good 1   and   faith   unfeigned;
from which   some,   having missed the mark,   turned aside   to   vain talking,
wishing   to be   law-teachers,     understanding   neither   what   they say,
nor   concerning   what   they strongly affirm.
Now we know     that   good [is]   the   law,   if   anyone   it 2   lawfully 3   use, 1
knowing   this,   that   for a righteous [one]   law   is not enacted,     but for lawless
and   insubordinate [ones],   for [the] ungodly   and   sinful,   for [the] unholy   and
profane,   for smiters of fathers   and   smiters of mothers;   for slayers of man,
fornicators,   abusers of themselves with men,   men-stealers,   liars,   perjurers,
and   if 2   any thing   other 1     to sound   teaching   is opposed,
according to   the   glad tidings   of the   glory   of the   blessed   God,   which
was 2 entrusted 3 with 4   I. 1
And   I thank     him who   strengthened   me,   Christ   Jesus   our Lord,
that   faithful   me   he esteemed,   appointing [me]   to   service,
previously 2   being 1   a blasphemer   and   persecutor   and   insolent;   but
I was shewn mercy,   because   being ignorant   I did [it]   in   unbelief.
But superabounded     the   grace   of our Lord       with   faith   and
love   which [is]   in   Christ   Jesus.
Faithful [is]   the   word,   and   of all   acceptation   worthy,   that   Christ   Jesus   came
into   the   world   sinners   to save,   of whom   [the] first   am 2   I. 1
But   for this reason     I was shewn mercy,   that   in   me,   [the] first,
might 3 shew 4 forth 5   Jesus 1   Christ 2   the   whole   long-suffering,   for
a delineation   of those   being about   to believe   on   him   to   life   eternal.
Now to the     King   of the   ages,   [the] incorruptible,   invisible,   only   wise
God,   honour   and   glory   to   the   ages   of the   ages.   Amen.
This     charge   I commit   to thee,   [my] child   Timotheus,   according to
the   going 5 before 6   as 2 to 3   thee 4   prophecies, 1   that   thou mightest war   by   them   the
good   warfare,
holding   faith   and   good 2   a conscience; 1   which [conscience]   some,   having cast away,
  as to     faith   made shipwreck;
of whom   are   Hymenaeus   and   Alexander,   whom   I delivered up     to Satan,   that
they may be disciplined   not   to blaspheme.
