CHAPTER 2

1

θελω

γαρ

υμας

ειδεναι

ηλικον

αγωνα

εχω

περι

υμων

και

των

εν

For I wish

♦

you

to know

how great

conflict

I have

for

you,

and

those

in

λαοδικεια

και

οσοι

ουχ

εωρακασιν

το

προσωπον

μου

εν

σαρκι

Laodicea,

and

as many as

have not seen

♦

♦

face 2

my 1

in

flesh;

ινα

παρακληθωσιν

αι

καρδιαι

αυτων

συμβιβασθεντων

εν

αγαπη

that

may be encouraged

their hearts,

♦

♦

being knit together

in

love,

και

εις

παντα

πλουτον

της

πληροφοριας

της

συνεσεως

εις

and

to

all

riches

of the

full assurance

♦

of understanding;

to

επιγνωσιν

του

μυστηριου

του

θεου

και

πατρος

και

του

χριστου

[the] knowledge

of the

mystery

♦

of God

and

of [the] Father

and

of the

Christ;

εν

ω

εισιν

παντες

οι

θησαυροι

της

σοφιας

και

της

γνωσεως

in

which

are

all

the

treasures

♦

of wisdom

and

♦

of knowledge

αποκρυφοι
hid.

τουτο

δε

λεγω

ινα

μη

τις

υμας

παραλογιζηται

εν

πιθανολογια

And this

I say,

that

not

anyone

you

may beguile

by

persuasive speech.

ει

γαρ

και

τη

σαρκι

απειμι

αλλα

τω

πνευματι

συν

υμιν

ειμι

For if

♦

indeed

in the

flesh

I am absent,

yet

♦

in spirit

with

you

I am,

χαιρων

και

βλεπων

υμων

την

ταξιν

και

το

στερεωμα

της

εις

χριστον

rejoicing

and

seeing

your

♦

order,

and

the

firmness

♦

in 4

πιστεως		υμων

παρελαβετε

τον

χριστον

ιησουν

κυριον

εν

αυτω

As

therefore

ye received

the

Christ,

Jesus

the

Lord,

in

him

περιπατειτε
walk,

7

ερριζωμενοι

και

εποικοδομουμενοι

εν

αυτω

και

βεβαιουμενοι

εν

τη

having been rooted

and

being built up

in

him,

and

being confirmed

in

the

πιστει

καθως

εδιδαχθητε

περισσευοντες

εν

αυτη

εν

ευχαριστια

faith,

even as

ye were taught,

abounding

in

it

with

thanksgiving.

βλεπετε

μη

τις

υμας

εσται

ο

συλαγωγων

δια

της

Take heed

lest

anyone 4

κενης

απατης

κατα

την

παραδοσιν

ανθρωπων

philosophy

and

empty

deceit,

according to

the

tradition

στοιχεια

του

κοσμου

και

ου

κατα

χριστον

according to

the

elements

of the

world,

and

not

according to

Christ.

οτι

εν

αυτω

κατοικει

παν

το

πληρωμα

της

θεοτητος

σωματικως

For

in

him

dwells

all

the

fulness

of the

Godhead

bodily;

10

και

εστε

εν

αυτω

πεπληρωμενοι

ος

εστιν

η

κεφαλη

πασης

αρχης

and

ye are

in 2

complete, 1

who

is

the

head

of all

principality

και		εξουσιας
and		authority,

11

εν

ω

και

περιετμηθητε

περιτομη

αχειροποιητω

εν

τη

in

whom

also

ye were circumcised

with circumcision

not made by hand,

in

the

απεκδυσει

του

σωματος

των

αμαρτιων

της

σαρκος

εν

τη

περιτομη

putting off

of the

body

of the

sins

of the

flesh,

in

the

circumcision

του		χριστου
of the		Christ;

συνταφεντες

αυτω

εν

τω

βαπτισματι

εν

ω

και

having been buried with

him

in

♦

baptism,

in

which

also

συνηγερθητε

δια

της

πιστεως

της

ενεργειας

του

θεου

του

ye were raised with [him]

through

the

faith

of the

working

♦

of God

who

εγειραντος		αυτον		εκ		των		νεκρων
raised		him		from among		the		dead.

υμας

νεκρους

εν

τοις

παραπτωμασιν

και

τη

ακροβυστια

And

you,

δογμασιν

having blotted out

προσηλωσας

adverse

απεκδυσαμενος

τας

αρχας

και

τας

εξουσιας

εδειγματισεν

having stripped

the

principalities

and

the

authorities,

he made a show [of them]

εν

παρρησια

θριαμβευσας

αυτους

εν

αυτω

publicly,

leading in triumph

them

in

it.

υμας

κρινετω

εν

βρωσει

εν

ποσει

εν

a shadow

of things to come;

κεφαλην

σωμα

δια

των

αφων

and

not

holding fast

the

head,

from

whom

all

the

body,

by

the

joints

and

συνδεσμων

επιχορηγουμενον

και

συμβιβαζομενον

αυξει

την

bands

being supplied

and

knit together,

increases [with]

the

αυξησιν		του		θεου

ουν

απεθανετε

συν

τω

χριστω

απο

των

στοιχειων

του

κοσμου

τι

If

then

ye died

with

the

Christ

from

the

elements

of the

world,

why

ως		ζωντες		εν		κοσμω		δογματιζεσθε
as if		alive		in		[the] world		do ye subject yourselves to decrees?

σοφιας

εθελοθρησκεια

which

are

of wisdom

in

voluntary worship

and

ταπεινοφροσυνη

και

αφειδια

σωματος

ουκ

εν

τιμη

τινι

humility

and

unsparing treatment

of [the] body,

not

in

honour 3

a 1 certain 2

προς		πλησμονην		της		σαρκος
for		satisfaction		of the		flesh.
