Second Epistle to the Corinthians

 

CHAPTER 10
  1  αυτος   δε   εγω   παυλος   παρακαλω   υμας   δια   της   πραοτητος   και  
    Now myself 2   ♦   I 1   Paul   exhort   you   by   the   meekness   and  
επιεικειας   του   χριστου   ος   κατα   προσωπον   μεν   ταπεινος   εν   υμιν  
gentleness   of the   Christ,   who   as to   appearance   ♦   [am] mean   among   you,  
απων   δε   θαρρω   εις   υμας    
but absent   ♦   am bold   towards   you;    
  2  δεομαι   δε   το   μη   παρων   θαρρησαι   τη   πεποιθησει  
    but I beseech   ♦   that   not 5   being 1 present 2   I 3 should 4 be bold   with the   confidence  
η   λογιζομαι   τολμησαι   επι   τινας   τους   λογιζομενους   ημας   ως  
with which   I reckon   to be daring   towards   some   who   reckon of   us   as  
κατα   σαρκα   περιπατουντας    
according 2 to 3   flesh 4   walking. 1    
  3  εν   σαρκι   γαρ   περιπατουντες   ου   κατα   σαρκα   στρατευομεθα    
    For in flesh   ♦   ♦   walking,   not   according to   flesh   do we war.    
  4  τα   γαρ   οπλα   της   στρατειας   ημων   ου   σαρκικα   αλλα   δυνατα  
    For the   ♦   arms   ♦   of warfare 2   our 1   [are] not   fleshly,   but   powerful  
τω   θεω   προς   καθαιρεσιν   οχυρωματων    
through God   ♦   to [the]   overthrow   of strongholds;    
  5  λογισμους   καθαιρουντες   και   παν   υψωμα   επαιρομενον   κατα   της  
    reasonings 2   overthrowing 1   and   every   high thing   lifting itself up   against   the  
γνωσεως   του   θεου   και   αιχμαλωτιζοντες   παν   νοημα   εις   την   υπακοην  
knowledge   ♦   of God,   and   leading captive   every   thought   into   the   obedience  
του   χριστου    
of the   Christ;    
  6  και   εν   ετοιμω   εχοντες   εκδικησαι   πασαν   παρακοην   οταν  
    and   in 2   readiness 3   having 1   to avenge   all   disobedience,   when  
πληρωθη   υμων   η   υπακοη    
may have been fulfilled   your   ♦   obedience.    
  7  τα   κατα   προσωπον   βλεπετε   ει   τις   πεποιθεν   εαυτω  
    The things   according to   appearance   do ye look at?   If   anyone   is persuaded   in himself  
χριστου   ειναι   τουτο   λογιζεσθω   παλιν   αφ   εαυτου   οτι   καθως  
of Christ   to be,   this   let him reckon   again   of himself,   ♦   that   according as  
αυτος   χριστου   ουτως   και   ημεις   χριστου    
he   [is] of Christ   so   also [are]   we   of Christ.    
  8  εαν   τε   γαρ   και   περισσοτερον   τι   καυχησωμαι   περι  
    For and if   ♦   ♦   even   more abundantly   somewhat   I should boast   concerning  
της   εξουσιας   ημων   ης   εδωκεν   ο   κυριος   ημιν   εις   οικοδομην  
our authority,   ♦   ♦   which   gave 3   the 1   Lord 2   to us   for   building up  
και   ουκ   εις   καθαιρεσιν   υμων   ουκ   αισχυνθησομαι    
and   not   for   overthrowing   you,   I shall not put to shame;   ♦    
  9  ινα   μη   δοξω   ως   αν   εκφοβειν   υμας   δια   των   επιστολων    
    that   I may not seem   ♦   as if   ♦   frightening   you   by means of   ♦   epistles:    
  10  οτι   αι   μεν   επιστολαι   φησιν   βαρειαι   και   ισχυραι   η   δε  
    because   the   ♦   epistles,   says he,   [are] weighty   and   strong,   but the   ♦  
παρουσια   του   σωματος   ασθενης   και   ο   λογος   εξουθενημενος    
presence   of the   body   weak,   and   the   speech   naught.    
  11  τουτο   λογιζεσθω   ο   τοιουτος   οτι   οιοι   εσμεν   τω   λογω   δι  
    This   let reckon 4   ♦   such 1 a 2 one, 3   that   such as   we are   ♦   in word   by  
επιστολων   αποντες   τοιουτοι   και   παροντες   τω   εργω    
epistles   being absent,   such [we are]   also   being present   ♦   in deed.    
  12  ου   γαρ   τολμωμεν   εγκριναι   η   συγκριναι   εαυτους   τισιν   των  
    For not 3   ♦   dare 2 we 1   rank among   or   compare with 2   ourselves 1   some   who  
εαυτους   συνιστανοντων   αλλα   αυτοι   εν   εαυτοις   εαυτους   μετρουντες  
themselves   commend;   but   these   by   themselves   themselves   measuring,  
και   συγκρινοντες   εαυτους   εαυτοις   ου   συνιουσιν    
and   comparing   themselves   with themselves,   do not understand.   ♦    
  13  ημεις   δε   ουχι   εις   τα   αμετρα   καυχησομεθα   αλλα   κατα  
    We 2   now 1   not   to   the things   beyond measure   will boast,   but   according to  
το   μετρον   του   κανονος   ου   εμερισεν   ημιν   ο   θεος   μετρου  
the   measure   of the   rule   which   divided 5   to 6 us 7   the 1   God 2   of 3 measure 4  
εφικεσθαι   αχρι   και   υμων    
to reach   to 2   also 1   you.    
  14  ου   γαρ   ως   μη   εφικνουμενοι   εις   υμας   υπερεκτεινομεν   εαυτους   αχρι  
    Not 2   for 1   as   not   reaching   to   you   we do overstretch   ourselves,   (for to  
γαρ   και   υμων   εφθασαμεν   εν   τω   ευαγγελιω   του   χριστου    
♦   also 2   you 1   we came   in   the   glad tidings   of the   Christ;)    
  15  ουκ   εις   τα   αμετρα   καυχωμενοι   εν   αλλοτριοις   κοποις  
    not   to 2   the 3 things 4   beyond 5 measure 6   boasting glorying 1   in   others’   labours  
ελπιδα   δε   εχοντες   αυξανομενης   της   πιστεως   υμων   εν   υμιν  
but hope   ♦   having,   increasing 3   your 1 faith, 2   ♦   ♦   among   you  
μεγαλυνθηναι   κατα   τον   κανονα   ημων   εις   περισσειαν    
to be enlarged   according to   our rule   ♦   ♦   to   abundance,    
  16  εις   τα   υπερεκεινα   υμων   ευαγγελισασθαι   ουκ   εν   αλλοτριω  
    to   that   beyond   you   to announce the glad tidings,   not   in 3   another’s 4  
κανονι   εις   τα   ετοιμα   καυχησασθαι    
rule 5   as 6 to 7   things 8   ready 9   to 1 boast. 2    
  17  ο   δε   καυχωμενος   εν   κυριω   καυχασθω    
    But he that   ♦   boasts,   in   [the] Lord   let him boast,    
  18  ου   γαρ   ο   εαυτον   συνιστων   εκεινος   εστιν   δοκιμος   αλλ   ον   ο  
    For not   ♦   he that   himself   commends,   this [one]   is   approved,   but   whom   the  
κυριος   συνιστησιν    
Lord   commends.
