CHAPTER 10

αδελφοι

μεν

ευδοκια

της

εμης

καρδιας

και

η

δεησις

η

προς

Brethren,

the

good pleasure

of my own

♦

heart,

and

♦

supplication

♦

to

τον

θεον

υπερ

του

ισραηλ

εστιν

εις

σωτηριαν

♦

God

on behalf of

♦

Israel

is

for

salvation.

μαρτυρω

γαρ

αυτοις

οτι

ζηλον

θεου

εχουσιν

αλλ

ου

κατ

For I bear witness

♦

to them

that

zeal

for God

they have,

but

not

according to

επιγνωσιν
knowledge.

αγνοουντες

γαρ

την

του

θεου

δικαιοσυνην

και

την

ιδιαν

For being ignorant of

♦

the

♦

of 2 God 3

righteousness, 1

and

their own

♦

δικαιοσυνην

ζητουντες

στησαι

τη

δικαιοσυνη

του

θεου

righteousness

seeking

to establish,

to the

righteousness

♦

of God

ουχ		υπεταγησαν
they submitted not.		♦

νομου

χριστος

εις

δικαιοσυνην

παντι

τω

Christ 1

righteousness

to every one

that

πιστευοντι
believes.

γαρ

γραφει

την

δικαιοσυνην

την

εκ

του

νομου

For Moses

writes

[of] the

righteousness

which [is]

of

the

law,

That

the

ποιησας

αυτα

ανθρωπος

ζησεται

εν

αυτοις

shall live

them.

πιστεως

δικαιοσυνη

ουτως

λεγει

μη

ειπης

εν

But the

righteousness 1

thus

speaks:

Thou mayest not say

καρδια

σου

τις

αναβησεται

εις

τον

ουρανον

τουτ

εστιν

χριστον

thy heart,

♦

Who

shall ascend

to

the

heaven?

that

is,

Christ

καταγαγειν
to bring down.

τις

καταβησεται

εις

την

αβυσσον

τουτ

εστιν

χριστον

εκ

Or,

Who

shall descend

into

the

abyss?

That

is,

Christ

from among [the]

νεκρων		αναγαγειν
dead		to bring up.

αλλα

τι

λεγει

εγγυς

σου

το

ρημα

εστιν

εν

τω

στοματι

σου

και

εν

But

what

says it?

Near

thee

the

word

is,

in

thy mouth

♦

and

in

τη

καρδια

σου

τουτ

εστιν

το

ρημα

της

πιστεως

ο

κηρυσσομεν

thy heart:

♦

♦

that

is

the

word

♦

of faith

which

we proclaim,

οτι

εαν

ομολογησης

εν

τω

στοματι

σου

κυριον

ιησουν

και

that

if

thou confess

with

thy mouth

♦

♦

[the] Lord

Jesus,

and

πιστευσης

εν

τη

καρδια

σου

οτι

ο

θεος

αυτον

ηγειρεν

εκ

believe

in

♦

thy heart

♦

that

♦

God

him

raised

from among [the]

νεκρων		σωθηση
dead,		thou shalt be saved.

καρδια

γαρ

πιστευεται

εις

δικαιοσυνην

στοματι

δε

For with [the] heart

♦

is belief

to

righteousness;

and with [the] mouth

♦

ομολογειται		εις		σωτηριαν
is confession		to		salvation.

λεγει

γαρ

η

γραφη

πας

ο

πιστευων

επ

αυτω

ου

For says

♦

the

scripture,

Everyone

that

believes

on

him

shall not be ashamed.

καταισχυνθησεται
♦

12

ου

γαρ

εστιν

διαστολη

ιουδαιου

τε

και

ελληνος

ο

γαρ

For there is not

♦

♦

a difference

of Jew

♦

and

Greek;

for the

♦

αυτος

κυριος

παντων

πλουτων

εις

παντας

τους

επικαλουμενους

same

Lord

of all

[is] rich

toward

all

that

call upon

αυτον
him.

πας

γαρ

ος

αν

επικαλεσηται

το

ονομα

κυριου

σωθησεται

For everyone,

♦

whoever

♦

may call on

the

name

of [the] Lord,

shall be saved.

14

πως

ουν

επικαλεσονται

εις

ον

ουκ

επιστευσαν

πως

How

then

shall they call

on [him]

whom

they believed not?

♦

and how

δε

πιστευσουσιν

ου

ουκ

ηκουσαν

πως

δε

ακουσουσιν

♦

shall they believe on [him]

of whom

they heard not?

♦

and how

♦

shall they hear

	χωρις		κηρυσσοντος
	apart from [one]		preaching?

πως

δε

κηρυξουσιν

εαν

μη

αποσταλωσιν

καθως

γεγραπται

and how

♦

shall they preach,

unless

♦

they be sent?

according as

it has been written,

ως

ωραιοι

οι

ποδες

των

ευαγγελιζομενων

ειρηνην

των

How

beautiful

the

feet

of those

announcing the glad tidings of

peace,

of those

ευαγγελιζομενων		τα		αγαθα
announcing the glad tidings of		♦		good things!

αλλ

ου

παντες

υπηκουσαν

τω

ευαγγελιω

ησαιας

γαρ

λεγει

κυριε

τις

But

not

all

obeyed

the

glad tidings.

For Esaias

♦

says,

Lord,

who

επιστευσεν		τη		ακοη		ημων
believed		our report?		♦		♦

αρα

η

πιστις

εξ

ακοης

η

δε

ακοη

δια

ρηματος

θεου

So

♦

faith [is]

by

report,

but the

♦

report

by [the]

word

of God.

18

αλλα

λεγω

μη

ουκ

ηκουσαν

μενουνγε

εις

πασαν

την

γην

But

I say,

♦

Did they not hear?

♦

Yea, rather,

Into

all

the

earth

εξηλθεν

ο

φθογγος

αυτων

και

εις

τα

περατα

της

οικουμενης

τα

went out

their voice,

♦

♦

and

to

the

ends

of the

habitable world

♦

ρηματα		αυτων
words 2		their. 1

αλλα

λεγω

μη

ουκ

εγνω

ισραηλ

πρωτος

μωσης

λεγει

εγω

But

I say,

Did not know 2

♦

Israel? 1

First,

Moses

says,

I

παραζηλωσω

υμας

επ

ουκ

εθνει

επι

εθνει

will provoke to jealousy

you

through [those]

not

a nation,

through

a nation

ασυνετω		παροργιω		υμας
without understanding		I will anger		you.

ησαιας

δε

αποτολμα

και

λεγει

ευρεθην

τοις

εμε

μη

ζητουσιν

Esiais 2

but 1

is very bold

and

says,

I was found

by those

me 3

not 1

seeking; 2

εμφανης

εγενομην

τοις

εμε

μη

επερωτωσιν

manifested

I became

to those

me 4

not 1

enquiring 2 after. 3

δε

τον

ισραηλ

λεγει

ολην

την

ημεραν

εξεπετασα

τας

χειρας

To 6

but 5

Israel

he says,

Whole 2

the 1

day

I stretched out

my hands

μου

προς

λαον

απειθουντα

και

αντιλεγοντα

♦

to

a people

disobeying

and

contradicting.
