we received

grace

apostleship

obedience

of faith

in behalf of

Rome

beseeching,

if by any means

at length

ευοδωθησομαι

θεληματι

θεου

υμας

I shall be prospered

by

the

will

of God

to come

to

you.

χαρισμα

For I long

to see

you,

υμας

αγνοειν

αδελφοι

But I do not wish

you

to be ignorant,

brethren,

that

many times

προεθεμην

ελθειν

προς

υμας

και

εκωλυθην

αχρι

του

δευρο

ινα

καρπον

I proposed

to come

to

you,

and

was hindered

until

the

present,

that

fruit 2

σχω

και

εν

υμιν

καθως

και

εν

τοις

λοιποις

εθνεσιν

I might have

also

among

you,

according as

also

among

the

other

nations.

ελλησιν

τε

και

βαρβαροις

σοφοις

τε

και

ανοητοις

οφειλετης

ειμι

Both to Greeks

and

barbarians,

both to wise

♦

and

unintelligent,

a debtor

I am:

ουτως

το

κατ

εμε

προθυμον

και

υμιν

τοις

εν

ρωμη

as to

readiness

επαισχυνομαι

το

ευαγγελιον

του

χριστου

For I am not ashamed of

the

glad tidings

of the

Christ:

δυναμις

γαρ

θεου

εστιν

εις

σωτηριαν

παντι

τω

πιστευοντι

ιουδαιω

for power

of God

it is

unto

salvation

to every one

that

believes,

both to Jew

τε		πρωτον		και		ελληνι
♦		first		and		to Greek:

δικαιοσυνη

γαρ

θεου

εν

αυτω

αποκαλυπτεται

εκ

πιστεως

εις

πιστιν

righteousness 2

for 1

of God

in

it

is revealed

by

faith

to

faith;

καθως

γεγραπται

ο

δε

δικαιος

εκ

πιστεως

ζησεται

according as

it has been written,

But the

faith

shall live.

αποκαλυπτεται

γαρ

οργη

θεου

απ

ουρανου

επι

πασαν

ασεβειαν

και

For there is revealed

wrath

of God

from

heaven

upon

all

ungodliness

and

αδικιαν

ανθρωπων

των

την

αληθειαν

εν

αδικια

κατεχοντων

unrighteousness

of men

who

the

truth

in

unrighteousness

hold.

διοτι

το

γνωστον

του

θεου

φανερον

εστιν

εν

αυτοις

Because

that which is known

of God

manifest 2

among

them,

ο		γαρ		θεος		αυτοις		εφανερωσεν

γαρ

αορατα

αυτου

απο

κτισεως

κοσμου

τοις

ποιημασιν

invisible things

of him

from

creation

of [the] world

by the

things made

νοουμενα

καθοραται

η

τε

αιδιος

αυτου

δυναμις

και

θειοτης

εις

το

being understood

are perceived,

both

eternal 2

power

and

divinity;

for

θεον

ουχ

θεον

εδοξασαν

Because

having known

God,

not

as

God

they glorified [him]

or

ευχαριστησαν

αλλ

εματαιωθησαν

εν

τοις

διαλογισμοις

αυτων

were thankful;

but

became vain

in

their reasonings,

και

εσκοτισθη

η

ασυνετος

αυτων

καρδια

and

was darkened

the

δοξαν

αφθαρτου

θεου

ομοιωματι

εικονος

changed

the

glory

of the

incorruptible

God

into

a likeness

of an image

φθαρτου

ανθρωπου

και

πετεινων

και

τετραποδων

και

ερπετων

of corruptible

man

and

of birds

and

quadrapeds

and

creeping things.

και

παρεδωκεν

αυτους

ο

θεος

εν

ταις

επιθυμιαις

των

Wherefore

also

the

desires

of their hearts

καρδιων

αυτων

εις

ακαθαρσιαν

του

ατιμαζεσθαι

τα

σωματα

to

uncleaness,

♦

αυτων		εν		εαυτοις
♦		between		themselves:

οιτινες

μετηλλαξαν

την

αληθειαν

του

θεου

εν

τω

ψευδει

και

who

changed

the

truth

of God

into

falsehood,

and

εσεβασθησαν

και

ελατρευσαν

τη

κτισει

παρα

τον

κτισαντα

ος

reverenced

and

served

the

created thing

beyond

him who

created [it],

who

εστιν

ευλογητος

εις

τους

αιωνας

αμην

is

blessed

to

the

ages.

Amen.

were inflamed

their lust

one another,

αντιμισθιαν

recompense

θεον

εχειν

according as

πεπληρωμενους

παση

αδικια

πορνεια

πονηρια

πλεονεξια

being filled with

all

unrighteousness,

fornication,

wickedness,

covetousness,

κακια

μεστους

φθονου

φονου

εριδος

δολου

κακοηθειας

ψιθυριστας

malice;

full

of envy,

murder,

strife,

guile,

evil dispositions;

whisperers,

καταλαλους

θεοστυγεις

υβριστας

υπερηφανους

αλαζονας

εφευρετας

slanderers,

hateful to God,

insolent,

proud,

vaunting,

inventors

κακων		γονευσιν		απειθεις
of evil things,		to parents		disobedient,

	31	ασυνετους		ασυνθετους		αστοργους		ασπονδους
		without understanding,		perfidious,		without natural affection,		implacable,

ανελεημονας
unmerciful;

οιτινες

το

δικαιωμα

του

θεου

επιγνοντες

οτι

οι

τα

who

the

righteous judgment

♦

of God

having known,

that

those

such things

τοιαυτα

πρασσοντες

αξιοι

θανατου

εισιν

ου

μονον

αυτα

ποιουσιν

αλλα

♦

doing

worthy

of death

are,

not

only

them 2

practise, 1

but

και		συνευδοκουσιν		τοις		πρασσουσιν
also		are consenting to		those that		do [them].
