CHAPTER 12

καιρον

επεβαλεν

ηρωδης

ο

βασιλευς

τας

And at that

♦

♦

time

♦

put 4 forth 5

Herod 1

the 2

king 3

♦

χειρας

κακωσαι

τινας

των

απο

της

εκκλησιας

[his] hands

to ill-treat

some

of those

of

the

assembly;

ανειλεν

δε

ιακωβον

τον

αδελφον

ιωαννου

μαχαιρα

and he put to death

♦

James

the

brother

of John

with a sword.

3

και

ιδων

οτι

αρεστον

εστιν

τοις

ιουδαιοις

προσεθετο

συλλαβειν

And

having seen

that

pleasing

it is

to the

Jews

he added

to take

και

πετρον

ησαν

δε

ημεραι

των

αζυμων

also

Peter:

(and they were

♦

days

of unleavened bread:)

♦

ον

και

πιασας

εθετο

εις

φυλακην

παραδους

τεσσαρσιν

whom

also

having seized

he put

in

prison,

having delivered

to four

τετραδιοις

στρατιωτων

φυλασσειν

αυτον

βουλομενος

μετα

το

πασχα

sets of four

soldiers

to guard

him,

purposing

after

the

passover

αναγαγειν		αυτον		τω		λαω
to bring out		him		to the		people.

μεν

ουν

πετρος

ετηρειτο

εν

τη

φυλακη

προσευχη

δε

Peter therefore indeed

♦

♦

♦

was kept

in

the

prison;

but prayer 2

♦

ην

εκτενης

γινομενη

υπο

της

εκκλησιας

προς

τον

θεον

υπερ

αυτου

was 3

fervent 1

made

by

the

assembly

to

♦

God

concerning

him.

οτε

δε

εμελλεν

αυτον

προαγειν

ο

ηρωδης

τη

νυκτι

But when

♦

was 2 about 3

him 6

to 4 bring 5 forth 7

♦

Herod,

in that night

♦

εκεινη

ην

ο

πετρος

κοιμωμενος

μεταξυ

δυο

στρατιωτων

δεδεμενος

♦

was

♦

Peter

sleeping

between

two

soldiers,

bound

αλυσεσιν

δυσιν

φυλακες

τε

προ

της

θυρας

ετηρουν

την

φυλακην

with chains 2

two, 1

guards

also

before

the

door

kept

the

prison.

και

ιδου

αγγελος

κυριου

επεστη

και

φως

ελαμψεν

εν

τω

οικηματι

And

behold,

an angel

of [the] Lord

stood by,

and

a light

shone

in

the

building.

παταξας

δε

την

πλευραν

του

πετρου

ηγειρεν

αυτον

λεγων

And having smitten

♦

the

side

♦

of Peter

he roused up

him,

saying,

αναστα

εν

ταχει

και

εξεπεσον

αυτου

αι

αλυσεις

εκ

των

χειρων

Rise up

in

haste.

And

fell off

of him

the

chains

from

♦

[his] hands.

ειπεν

τε

ο

αγγελος

προς

αυτον

περιζωσαι

και

υποδησαι

And said 3

♦

the 1

angel 2

to

him,

Gird thyself about,

and

bind on

τα

σανδαλια

σου

εποιησεν

δε

ουτως

και

λεγει

αυτω

thy sandals.

♦

♦

He 2 did 3

and 1

so.

And

he says

to him,

περιβαλου

το

ιματιον

σου

και

ακολουθει

μοι

Cast about [thee]

thy garment,

♦

♦

and

follow

me.

και

εξελθων

ηκολουθει

αυτω

και

ουκ

ηδει

οτι

αληθες

εστιν

το

And

going forth

he followed

him,

and

did not know

♦

that

real

it is

which

γινομενον

δια

του

αγγελου

εδοκει

δε

οραμα

βλεπειν

is happening

by means of

the

angel,

but thought

♦

a vision

he saw.

διελθοντες

δε

πρωτην

φυλακην

και

δευτεραν

ηλθον

επι

And having passed through

♦

a first

guard

and

a second,

they came

to

την

πυλην

την

σιδηραν

την

φερουσαν

εις

την

πολιν

ητις

αυτοματη

the

gate 2

♦

iron 1

that

leads

into

the

city,

which

of itself

ηνοιχθη

αυτοις

και

εξελθοντες

προηλθον

ρυμην

μιαν

και

opened

to them;

and

having gone out

they went on through

street 2

one, 1

and

ευθεως

απεστη

ο

αγγελος

απ

αυτου

immediately

departed

the

angel

from

him.

και

ο

πετρος

γενομενος

εν

εαυτω

ειπεν

νυν

οιδα

αληθως

οτι

And

♦

Peter

having come

to himself

♦

said,

Now

I know

of a truth

that

εξαπεστειλεν

κυριος

τον

αγγελον

αυτου

και

εξειλετο

με

εκ

sent 3 forth 4

[the] 1 Lord 2

his angel,

♦

♦

and

delivered

me

out of

χειρος

ηρωδου

και

πασης

της

προσδοκιας

του

λαου

των

ιουδαιων

[the] hand

of Herod

and

all

the

expectation

of the

people

of the

Jews.

συνιδων

τε

ηλθεν

επι

την

οικιαν

μαριας

της

μητρος

ιωαννου

And considering [it]

♦

he came

to

the

house

of Mary

the

mother

of John

του

επικαλουμενου

μαρκου

ου

ησαν

ικανοι

συνηθροισμενοι

και

who

is surnamed

Mark,

where

were

many

gathered together

and

προσευχομενοι
praying.

κρουσαντος

δε

του

πετρου

την

θυραν

του

πυλωνος

And having 2 knocked 3

♦

♦

Peter 1

[at] the

door

of the

porch,

προσηλθεν		παιδισκη		υπακουσαι		ονοματι		ροδη
came 3		a 1 damsel 2		to listen,		by name		Rhoda;

και

επιγνουσα

την

φωνην

του

πετρου

απο

της

χαρας

ουκ

and

having recognized

the

voice

♦

of Peter,

from

♦

joy

she opened not

ηνοιξεν

τον

πυλωνα

εισδραμουσα

δε

απηγγειλεν

εσταναι

τον

♦

the

porch,

having 2 run 3 in 4

but 1

she reported

to 2 be 3 standing 4

♦

πετρον		προ		του		πυλωνος
Peter 1		before		the		porch.

οι

δε

προς

αυτην

ειπον

μαινη

η

δε

διισχυριζετο

ουτως

But they

♦

to

her

said,

Thou art mad.

But she

♦

strongly affirmed

thus

εχειν

οι

δ

ελεγον

ο

αγγελος

αυτου

εστιν

it was.

And they

♦

said,

The

angel

of him

it is.

ο

δε

πετρος

επεμενεν

κρουων

ανοιξαντες

δε

ειδον

αυτον

But Peter

♦

♦

continued

knocking:

and having opened

♦

they saw

him,

και		εξεστησαν
and		were amazed.

κατασεισας

δε

αυτοις

τη

χειρι

σιγαν

διηγησατο

αυτοις

And having made a sign

♦

to them

with the

hand

to be silent

he related

to them

πως

ο

κυριος

αυτον

εξηγαγεν

εκ

της

φυλακης

ειπεν

δε

how

the

Lord

him

brought

out of

the

prison.

And he said,

♦

απαγγειλατε

ιακωβω

και

τοις

αδελφοις

ταυτα

και

εξελθων

Report

to James

and

to the

brethren

these things.

And

having gone out

επορευθη		εις		ετερον		τοπον
he went		to		another		place.

γενομενης

δε

ημερας

ην

ταραχος

ουκ

ολιγος

εν

τοις

And having 2 come 3

♦

day 1

there was

disturbance 3

no 1

small 2

among

the

στρατιωταις

τι

αρα

ο

πετρος

εγενετο

soldiers,

what

then [of] 3

♦

Peter 4

was 1 become. 2

ηρωδης

δε

επιζητησας

αυτον

και

μη

ευρων

ανακρινας

Herod 6

and

having sought after

him 5

and 1

not 2

having 3 found, 4

having examined

τους

φυλακας

εκελευσεν

απαχθηναι

και

κατελθων

απο

the

guards

he commanded [them]

to be led away [to death].

And

having gone down

from

της

ιουδαιας

εις

την

καισαρειαν

διετριβεν

♦

Judaea

to

♦

Ceasarea

he stayed [there].

ην

δε

ο

ηρωδης

θυμομαχων

τυριοις

και

σιδωνιοις

Was 3

and 1

♦

Herod 2

in bitter hostility

with [the] Tyrians

and

Sidonians;

ομοθυμαδον

δε

παρησαν

προς

αυτον

και

πεισαντες

βλαστον

τον

but with one accord

♦

they came

to

him,

and

having gained

Blastus

who [was]

επι

του

κοιτωνος

του

βασιλεως

ητουντο

ειρηνην

δια

το

τρεφεσθαι

over

the

bedchamber

of the

king,

sought

peace,

because

♦

was nourished

αυτων

την

χωραν

απο

της

βασιλικης

their

♦

country

by

the

king’s.

τακτη

δε

ημερα

ο

ηρωδης

ενδυσαμενος

εσθητα

βασιλικην

και

And on a set

♦

day

♦

Herod

having put on

apparel 2

royal, 1

and

καθισας

επι

του

βηματος

εδημηγορει

προς

αυτους

having sat

on

the

tribunal,

was making an oration

to

them.

ο

δε

δημος

επεφωνει

θεου

φωνη

και

ουκ

ανθρωπου

And the

♦

people

were crying out,

Of 3 a 4 god 5

[the] 1 voice 2

and

not

of a man!

23

παραχρημα

δε

επαταξεν

αυτον

αγγελος

κυριου

ανθ

ων

And immediately

♦

smote 6

him 7

an 1 angel 2

of 3 [the] 4 Lord, 5

because

♦

ουκ

εδωκεν

την

δοξαν

τω

θεω

και

γενομενος

σκωληκοβρωτος

he gave not

♦

the

glory

♦

to God,

and

having been

eaten by worms

εξεψυξεν
he expired.

ο

δε

λογος

του

θεου

ηυξανεν

και

επληθυνετο

But the

♦

word

♦

of God

grew

and

multiplied.

25

βαρναβας

δε

και

σαυλος

υπεστρεψαν

εξ

ιερουσαλημ

πληρωσαντες

And Barnabas

♦

and

Saul

returned

from

Jerusalem,

having fulfilled

την

διακονιαν

συμπαραλαβοντες

και

ιωαννην

τον

επικληθεντα

μαρκον

the

ministration,

having taken with [them]

also

John

who

was surnamed

Mark.
