CHAPTER 11

ιουδαιαν

And heard 3

the 1

apostles 2

and

the

brethren

who

were

in

♦

Judaea,

οτι

και

τα

εθνη

εδεξαντο

τον

λογον

του

θεου

that

also

the

Gentiles

received

the

word

♦

of God;

και

οτε

ανεβη

πετρος

εις

ιεροσολυμα

διεκρινοντο

προς

αυτον

οι

and

when

to

Jerusalem,

contended 5

with 6

him 7

those 1

εκ		περιτομης
of 2		[the] 3 circumcision, 4

λεγοντες

οτι

προς

ανδρας

ακροβυστιαν

εχοντας

εισηλθες

saying,

TO

men

uncircumcised

♦

thou wentest in,

and

συνεφαγες		αυτοις
didst eat with		them.

εξετιθετο

αυτοις

καθεξης

λεγων

Peter 1

he set [it] forth

to them

in order

saying

ημην

εν

πολει

ιοππη

προσευχομενος

και

ειδον

εν

εκστασει

I

was

in

[the] city

of Joppa

praying,

and

I saw

in

a trance

οραμα

καταβαινον

σκευος

τι

ως

οθονην

μεγαλην

τεσσαρσιν

αρχαις

a vision,

descending 4

a 1 vessel 3

certain 2

like

a sheet 2

great, 1

by four

corners

καθιεμενην

εκ

του

ουρανου

και

ηλθεν

αχρις

εμου

let down

out of

the

heaven,

and

it came

as far as

me:

εις

ην

ατενισας

κατενοουν

και

ειδον

τα

τετραποδα

της

γης

on

which

having looked intently

I considered,

and

saw

the

quadrupeds

of the

earth

και

τα

θηρια

και

τα

ερπετα

και

τα

πετεινα

του

ουρανου

and

the

wild beasts

and

the

creeping things

and

the

birds

of the

heaven.

ηκουσα

δε

φωνης

λεγουσης

μοι

αναστας

πετρε

θυσον

και

φαγε

And I heard

♦

a voice

saying

to me,

Having risen up,

Peter,

kill

and

eat.

8

ειπον

δε

μηδαμως

κυριε

οτι

παν

κοινον

η

ακαθαρτον

ουδεποτε

But I said,

♦

In no wise,

Lord,

for

anything

common

or

unclean

never

εισηλθεν		εις		το		στομα		μου
entered		into		my mouth.		♦		♦

απεκριθη

δε

μοι

φωνη

εκ

δευτερου

εκ

του

ουρανου

α

But answered 3

♦

me 4

a 1 voice 2

the second time

♦

out of

the

heaven,

What

ο

θεος

εκαθαρισεν

συ

μη

κοινου

♦

God

cleansed,

thou 3

not 2

make common. 1

τουτο

δε

εγενετο

επι

τρις

και

παλιν

ανεσπασθη

απαντα

εις

τον

And this

♦

took place

thrice,

♦

and

again

was drawn up

all

into

the

ουρανον
heaven.

και

ιδου

εξαυτης

τρεις

ανδρες

επεστησαν

επι

την

οικιαν

εν

η

ημην

And

lo,

at once

three

men

stood

at

the

house

in

which

I was,

απεσταλμενοι		απο		καισαρειας		προς		με
sent		from		Caesarea		to		me.

ειπεν

δε

μοι

το

πνευμα

συνελθειν

αυτοις

μηδεν

διακρινομενον

And said 3

♦

Spirit, 2

to go with

them,

nothing

doubting.

ηλθον

δε

συν

εμοι

και

οι

εξ

αδελφοι

ουτοι

και

εισηλθομεν

εις

τον

And went

♦

with

me

also

♦

six 2

brethren 3

these, 1

and

we entered

into

the

οικον		του		ανδρος
house		of the		man,

απηγγειλεν

τε

ημιν

πως

ειδεν

τον

αγγελον

εν

τω

οικω

αυτου

and he related

♦

to us

how

he saw

the

angel

in

his house

♦

♦

σταθεντα

και

ειποντα

αυτω

αποστειλον

εις

ιοππην

ανδρας

και

standing

and

saying

to him,

Send

to 2

Joppa 3

men, 1

and

μεταπεμψαι		σιμωνα		τον		επικαλουμενον		πετρον
send for		Simon		who		is surnamed		Peter,

λαλησει

ρηματα

προς

σε

εν

οις

σωθηση

συ

και

πας

who

shall speak

words

to

thee

whereby

♦

shalt be saved

thou

and

all

ο		οικος		σου
thy house.		♦		♦

εν

δε

τω

αρξασθαι

με

λαλειν

επεπεσεν

το

πνευμα

το

And in

♦

my beginning

♦

♦

to speak

fell 5

the 1

Spirit 2

the 3

αγιον

επ

αυτους

ωσπερ

και

εφ

ημας

εν

αρχη

Holy 4

upon

them,

even as

also

upon

us

in [the]

beginning.

εμνησθην

δε

του

ρηματος

κυριου

ως

ελεγεν

ιωαννης

μεν

And I remembered

♦

the

word

of [the] Lord,

how

he said,

John

indeed

εβαπτισεν

υδατι

υμεις

δε

βαπτισθησεσθε

εν

πνευματι

αγιω

baptized

with water,

but ye

♦

shall be baptized

with [the]

Spirit

Holy.

ει

ουν

την

ισην

δωρεαν

εδωκεν

αυτοις

ο

θεος

ως

και

ημιν

If

then

the

like

gift

gave 2

to 3 them 4

♦

God 1

as

also

to us,

πιστευσασιν

επι

τον

κυριον

ιησουν

χριστον

εγω

δε

τις

ημην

δυνατος

having believed

on

the

Lord

Jesus

Christ,

and I,

♦

who

was I,

[to be] able

κωλυσαι		τον		θεον
to forbid		♦		God?

ακουσαντες

δε

ταυτα

ησυχασαν

και

εδοξαζον

τον

θεον

And having heard

♦

these things

they were silent,

and

glorified

♦

God,

λεγοντες

αραγε

και

τοις

εθνεσιν

ο

θεος

την

μετανοιαν

εδωκεν

εις

saying,

Then indeed

also

to the

Gentiles

♦

God

♦

repentance 2

gave 1

unto

ζωην
life.

διασπαρεντες

απο

της

θλιψεως

της

γενομενης

επι

They

indeed

therefore

who were scattered

by

the

tribulation

that

took place

upon

στεφανω

διηλθον

εως

φοινικης

και

κυπρου

και

αντιοχειας

μηδενι

Stephen,

passed through

to

Phoenicia

and

Cyprus

and

Antioch,

to no one

λαλουντες

τον

λογον

ει

μη

μονον

ιουδαιοις

speaking

the

word

except

♦

only 3

to 1 Jews. 2

ησαν

δε

τινες

εξ

αυτων

ανδρες

κυπριοι

και

κυρηναιοι

οιτινες

But were

♦

certain

of 2

them 3

men 1

Cypriots

and

Cyrenians,

who

εισελθοντες

εις

αντιοχειαν

ελαλουν

προς

τους

ελληνιστας

having come

into

Antioch,

spoke

to

the

Hellenists,

ευαγγελιζομενοι		τον		κυριον		ιησουν
announcing the glad tidings--		the		Lord		Jesus.

ην

χειρ

κυριου

μετ

αυτων

πολυς

τε

αριθμος

And

was 6

[the] 1 hand 2

of 3 [the] 4 Lord 5

with

them,

and a great

♦

number

πιστευσας		επεστρεψεν		επι		τον		κυριον
having believed		turned		to		the		Lord.

ηκουσθη

δε

ο

λογος

εις

τα

ωτα

της

εκκλησιας

της

εν

Was 4 heard 5

and 1

the 2

report 3

in

the

ears

of the

assembly

which [was]

in

ιεροσολυμοις

περι

αυτων

και

εξαπεστειλαν

βαρναβαν

διελθειν

Jerusalem

concerning

them;

and

they sent forth

Barnabas

to go through

εως		αντιοχειας
as far as		Antioch:

ος

παραγενομενος

και

ιδων

την

χαριν

του

θεου

εχαρη

και

who

having come

and

having seen

the

grace

♦

of God

rejoiced,

and

παρεκαλει

παντας

τη

προθεσει

της

καρδιας

προσμενειν

τω

κυριω

exhorted

all

with purpose

♦

♦

of heart

to abide with

the

Lord;

οτι

ην

ανηρ

αγαθος

και

πληρης

πνευματος

αγιου

και

πιστεως

και

For

he was

a man 2

good 1

and

full

of [the] Spirit

Holy

and

of faith.

And

προσετεθη		οχλος		ικανος		τω		κυριω
was added		a crowd 2		large 1		to the		Lord.

εξηλθεν

δε

εις

ταρσον

ο

βαρναβας

αναζητησαι

σαυλον

And went 2 forth 3

♦

to 4

Tarsus 5

♦

Barnabas 1

to seek

Saul;

και

ευρων

αυτον

ηγαγεν

αυτον

εις

αντιοχειαν

εγενετο

δε

and

having found

him

he brought

him

to

Antioch.

And it came to pass

♦

αυτους

ενιαυτον

ολον

συναχθηναι

εν

τη

εκκλησια

και

διδαξαι

they

a year 2

whole 1

were gathered together

in

the

assembly,

and

taught

οχλον

ικανον

χρηματισαι

τε

πρωτον

εν

αντιοχεια

τους

μαθητας

a crowd 2

large: 1

and were 3 called 5

Christians. 6

δε

ταις

ημεραις

κατηλθον

απο

ιεροσολυμων

And in these

came down

from

Jerusalem

προφηται		εις		αντιοχειαν
prophets		to		Antioch;

αναστας

δε

εις

εξ

αυτων

ονοματι

αγαβος

εσημανεν

and having risen 6 up 7

them, 4

by name

Agabus,

he signified

δια

του

πνευματος

λιμον

μεγαν

μελλειν

εσεσθαι

εφ

ολην

την

by

the

Spirit,

A famine 2

great 1

is about

to be

over

whole 2

the 1

οικουμενην

οστις

και

εγενετο

επι

κλαυδιου

καισαρος

habitable world;

which

also

came to pass

under

Claudius

Ceasar.

δε

μαθητων

καθως

ηυπορειτο

τις

ωρισαν

εκαστος

And the

♦

disciples

according as

was 3 prospered 4

any 1 one, 2

determined,

each

αυτων

εις

διακονιαν

πεμψαι

τοις

κατοικουσιν

εν

τη

ιουδαια

αδελφοις

of them,

for

ministration

to send

to the

dwelling 2

in 3

Judaea 4

brethren; 1

ο

και

εποιησαν

αποστειλαντες

προς

τους

πρεσβυτερους

δια

which

also

they did,

sending [it]

to

the

elders

by [the]

χειρος		βαρναβα		και		σαυλου
hand		of Barnabas		and		Saul.
