Acts of the Apostles

CHAPTER 8
And Saul     was   consenting   to the   killing   of him.   And took place     on
that     day   a persecution 2   great 1   against   the   assembly   which [was]   in
Jerusalem,   and all     were scattered   throughout   the   countries     of Judaea
and   Samaria   except   the   apostles.
And buried 3       Stephen 4   men 2   devout 1   and   made
lamentation 2   great 1   over   him.
But Saul     was ravaging   the   assembly,   house 2 by 3 house 4
entering, 1   and dragging     men   and   women   delivered [them] up   to
prison.
They who     therefore   had been scattered   passed through,   announcing the glad tidings--
the   word.
And Philip,     going down   to   a city     of Samaria,   proclaimed   to them   the
Christ;
gave 4 heed 5   and 1   the 2   crowds 3   to the things   spoken   by     Philip
with one accord,   when they heard         and   saw   the   signs   which
  he did.
For of many     of those who   had   spirits   unclean,   crying 4
with 5 a 6 loud 7   voice 8   they 1 went 2 out; 3   and many     having been paralysed   and   lame
were healed.
And   was 3   joy 2   great 1   in   that city.
But a certain man,       by name   Simon,   was formerly   in   the   city
using magic arts   and   amazing   the   nation     of Samaria,   saying   to 2 be 3   some 4
himself 1   great one.
To whom   were 2 giving 3 heed 4   all 1   from   small   to   great,   saying,
This one   is   the   power     of God   which   [is] great.
And they were giving heed     to him,   because   that for a long     time   with the
magic arts   [he] had amazed   them.
But when     they believed     Philip   announcing the glad tidings--   the things
concerning   the   kingdom     of God   and   the   name     of Jesus   Christ,
they were baptized   both men     and   women.
And Simon       also   himself   believed,   and   having been baptized   was
steadfastly continuing     with Philip;   beholding 2   and 1   signs   and   works 2 of 3 power 4
great 1   being done,   was amazed.
    And having 4 heard 5     the 1   in 3   Jerusalem 4   apostles 2   that   had 2 received 3
Samaria 1   the   word     of God,   they sent   to   them     Peter   and
John;
who   having come down   prayed   for   them,   that
they might receive [the]   Spirit 2   Holy; 1
for not yet     was he   upon   any (lit. no one)   of them   fallen,   but only
baptized   they 1 were 2   to   the   name   of the   Lord   Jesus.
Then   they laid     hands   upon   them,   and   they received   [the] Spirit 2   Holy. 1
But having 2 seen 3       Simon 1   that   by   the   laying on   of the   hands   of the
apostles   was given   the   Spirit   the   Holy,   he offered   to them   riches,
saying,   Give   also to me     this authority,     that   on whomsoever     I may lay
hands,   he may receive   [the] Spirit 2   Holy. 1
But Peter     said   to   him,   Thy money       with   thee   may it bee   to
destruction,   because   the   gift     of God   thou didst think   by   riches
to be obtained.
Not 3   there 1 is 2   to thee   part   nor   lot   in   this matter;       for the
heart   of thee   is not     right   before     God.
Repent   therefore   of   thy 2 wickedness 3       this, 1   and   supplicate
  God,   if   indeed   may be forgiven   to thee   the   thought   of thy heart;
in 2   for 1   a gall   of bitterness   and   a bond   of unrighteousness   I see   thee   to be.
And answering 2       Simon 1   said,   Supplicate   ye   on behalf   of me   to   the
Lord,   so that   nothing   may come   upon   me   of which   ye have spoken.
They     therefore   having earnestly testified   and   having spoken   the   word   of the
Lord,   returned   to   Jerusalem,   and [to] many     villages   of the
Samaritans   announced the glad tidings.
But an angel     of [the] Lord   spoke   to   Philip,   saying,   Rise up   and
go   towards [the]   south,   on   the   way   which   goes down   from
Jerusalem   to   Gaza:   the same   is   desert.
And   having risen up   he went.   And   lo,   a man   an Ethiopian,   a eunuch,   one in power
under Candace   the   queen   of [the] Ethiopians,   who   was   over   all   her treasure,
who   had come   to 3 worship 4   to 1   Jesusalem, 2
and was     returning   and   sitting   in   his chariot,       and
he was reading   the   prophet   Esaias.
And said     the   Spirit     to Philip,   Go near   and   join thyself   to this chariot.

And running up       Philip   heard   him   reading   the
prophet   Esaias,   and   said,   Then 3 dost 1 thou 2     know   what
thou readest?
But he     said,   [No,] for how     should I be able     unless     some one
should guide   me?   And he besought       Philip   having come up   to sit   with
him.
And the     passage   of the   scripture   which   he was reading   was   this,   As
a sheep   to   slaughter   he was led,   and   as   a lamb   before   him who   shears
him   [is] dumb,   thus   he opens not     his mouth.
In   his humiliation       his judgment       was taken away,
and the     generation   of him   who   shall declare?   for   is taken   from   the   earth   his life.

And answering     the   eunuch     to 2 Philip 3   said, 1   I pray   thee,   concerning
whom   the 2   prophet 3   says 1   this?   concerning   himself,   or   concerning   some other?

And having 2 opened 3       Philip 1   his mouth,       and   having begun
from   this scripture,       announced to him the glad tidings--
Jesus.
And as     they were going   along   the   way,   they came   upon   a certain   water,   and
says 3   the 1   eunuch, 2   Behold   water;   what   hinders   me   to be baptized?
And said 2       Philip, 1   If   thou believest   from   whole 2   the 1   heart,   it is lawful.
And answering     he said,   I believe   the 5   Son 6     of 7 God 8   to 3 be 4     Jesus 1
Christ. 2
And   he commanded   to 3 stand 4 still 5   the 1   chariot. 2   And   they went down   both   to
the   water,   both Philip       and   the   eunuch,   and   he baptized   him.
But when     they came up   out of   the   water   [the] Spirit   of [the] Lord   caught away
Philip,   and     saw 3   him 4   no 5 longer 6   the 1   eunuch, 2   for he went
his way       rejoicing.
Philip 2   and 1   was found   at   Azotus,   and   passing through
he announced the glad tidings [to]   the 2   cities 3   all, 1   till   he came       to
Ceasarea.
