ΤΟ ΚΑΤΑ ΙΩΑΝΝΗΝ ΑΓΙΟΝ ΕΥΑΓΓΕΛΙΟΝ

Gospel of John

 

CHAPTER 12
  1  ο   ουν   ιησους   προ   εξ   ημερων   του   πασχα   ηλθεν   εις  
    Jesus therefore   ♦   ♦   before 3   six 1   days 2   the   passover   came   to  
βηθανιαν   οπου   ην   λαζαρος   ο   τεθνηκως   ον   ηγειρεν   εκ   νεκρων
Bethany,   where   was   Lazarus   who   had died,   whom   he raised   from among   [the] dead.
   
  2  εποιησαν   ουν   αυτω   δειπνον   εκει   και   η   μαρθα   διηκονει   ο   δε  
    They made   therefore   him   a supper   there,   and   ♦   Martha   served,   but Lazarus   ♦  
λαζαρος   εις   ην   των   συνανακειμενων   αυτω    
♦   one   was   of those   reclining with   him.    
  3  η   ουν   μαρια   λαβουσα   λιτραν   μυρου   ναρδου   πιστικης  
    Mary therefore   ♦   ♦   having taken   a pound   of ointment   of nard 2   pure 1  
πολυτιμου   ηλειψεν   τους   ποδας   του   ιησου   και   εξεμαξεν   ταις   θριξιν  
of great price,   anointed   the   feet   ♦   of Jesus,   and   wiped   with her har   ♦  
αυτης   τους   ποδας   αυτου   η   δε   οικια   επληρωθη   εκ   της   οσμης   του  
♦   his feet;   ♦   ♦   and the   ♦   house   was filled   with   the   odour   of the  
μυρου    
ointment.    
  4  λεγει   ουν   εις   εκ   των   μαθητων   αυτου   ιουδας   σιμωνος  
    Says   therefore   one   of   his disciples,   ♦   ♦   Judas,   Simon’s [son]  
ισκαριωτης   ο   μελλων   αυτον   παραδιδοναι    
Iscariote,   who   was about   him   to deliver up,    
  5  δια   τι   τουτο   το   μυρον   ουκ   επραθη   τριακοσιων  
    Why   this 3   ♦   ointment 4   not 2   was sold 1   for three hundred   denarii,  
δηναριων   και   εδοθη    
and   given   to [the] poor?    
  6  ειπεν   δε   τουτο   ουχ   οτι   περι   των   πτωχων   εμελεν   αυτω   αλλ  
    he 2 said 3   but 1   this,   not   that   for   the   poor   he was caring,   ♦   but  
οτι   κλεπτης   ην   και   το   γλωσσοκομον   ειχεν   και   τα   βαλλομενα  
because   a thief   he was,   and   the   bag   had,   and   what   was put into [it]  
εβασταζεν    
carried.    
  7  ειπεν   ουν   ο   ιησους   αφες   αυτην   εις   την   ημεραν   του  
    Said 3   therefore 2   ♦   Jesus, 1   Let alone 2   her: 1   for   the   day   of my burial  
ενταφιασμου   μου   τετηρηκεν   αυτο    
♦   ♦   has she kept   it:    
  8  τους   πτωχους   γαρ   παντοτε   εχετε   μεθ   εαυτων   εμε   δε   ου   παντοτε  
    the 2   poor 3   for 1   always   ye have   with   you,   but me   ♦   not   always  
εχετε    
ye have.    
  9  εγνω   ουν   οχλος   πολυς   εκ   των   ιουδαιων   οτι   εκει   εστιν   και  
    Knew 7   therefore 8   a 1 crowd 3   great 2   of 4   the 5   Jews 6   that   there   he is;   and  
ηλθον   ου   δια   τον   ιησουν   μονον   αλλ   ινα   και   τον   λαζαρον  
they came,   not   because of   ♦   Jesus   only,   but   that   also   ♦   Lazarus  
ιδωσιν   ον   ηγειρεν   εκ   νεκρων    
they might see   whom   he raised   from among   [the] dead.    
  10  εβουλευσαντο   δε   οι   αρχιερεις   ινα   και   τον   λαζαρον   αποκτεινωσιν    
    But took 4 counsel 5   ♦   the 1   chief 2 priests 3   that   also   ♦   Lazarus   they might kill,    
  11  οτι   πολλοι   δι   αυτον   υπηγον   των   ιουδαιων   και  
    because   many   by 4 reason 5 of 6   him 7   were 8 going 9 away 10   of 1 the 2   Jews 3   and  
επιστευον   εις   τον   ιησουν    
were believing   on   ♦   Jesus.    
  12  τη   επαυριον   οχλος   πολυς   ο   ελθων   εις   την   εορτην  
    On the morrow   ♦   a crowd 2   great 1   who   came   to   the   feast,  
ακουσαντες   οτι   ερχεται   ο   ιησους   εις   ιεροσολυμα    
having heard   that   is 2 coming 3   ♦   Jesus 1   into   Jerusalem,    
  13  ελαβον   τα   βαια   των   φοινικων   και   εξηλθον   εις   υπαντησιν   αυτω   και  
    took   ♦   branches   of the   palms   and   went out   to   meet   him,   and  
εκραζον   ωσαννα   ευλογημενος   ο   ερχομενος   εν   ονοματι   κυριου  
were crying,   Hosanna,   blessed [is]   he who   comes   in   [the] name   of [the] Lord,  
ο   βασιλευς   του   ισραηλ    
the   king   ♦   of Israel.    
  14  ευρων   δε   ο   ιησους   οναριον   εκαθισεν   επ   αυτο   καθως   εστιν  
    Having 3 found 4   and 1   ♦   Jesus 2   a young ass   sat   upon   it,   as   it is  
γεγραμμενον    
written,    
  15  μη   φοβου   θυγατερ   σιων   ιδου   ο   βασιλευς   σου   ερχεται  
    Fear not,   ♦   daughter   of Sion:   behold,   thy king   ♦   ♦   comes,  
καθημενος   επι   πωλον   ονου    
sitting   on   a colt   of an ass.    
  16  ταυτα   δε   ουκ   εγνωσαν   οι   μαθηται   αυτου   το  
    These 2 things 3   now 1   not 7   knew 6   his 4 disciples 5   ♦   ♦   at the first,  
πρωτον   αλλ   οτε   εδοξασθη   ο   ιησους   τοτε   εμνησθησαν   οτι   ταυτα   ην  
♦   but   when   was glorified   ♦   Jesus   then   they remembered   that   these things   were  
επ   αυτω   γεγραμμενα   και   ταυτα   εποιησαν   αυτω    
of   him   written,   and   these things   they did   to him.    
  17  εμαρτυρει   ουν   ο   οχλος   ο   ων   μετ   αυτου   οτε   τον   λαζαρον  
    Bore witness   therefore   the   crowd   that   was   with   him,   when   ♦   Lazarus  
εφωνησεν   εκ   του   μνημειου   και   ηγειρεν   αυτον   εκ   νεκρων    
he called   out of   the   tomb,   and   raised   him   from among   [the] dead.    
  18  δια   τουτο   και   υπηντησεν   αυτω   ο   οχλος   οτι   ηκουσεν   τουτο  
    On account of   this   also   met   him   the   crowd,   because   it heard   this 5  
αυτον   πεποιηκεναι   το   σημειον    
of 1 his 2 having 3 done 4   ♦   ♦   sign.    
  19  οι   ουν   φαρισαιοι   ειπον   προς   εαυτους   θεωρειτε   οτι   ουκ   ωφελειτε
    The   therefore 2   Pharisees 1   said   among   themselves,   Do ye see   that   ♦   ye gain
  ουδεν   ιδε   ο   κοσμος   οπισω   αυτου   απηλθεν    
  nothing?   lo,   the   world   after   him   is gone.    
  20  ησαν   δε   τινες   ελληνες   εκ   των   αναβαινοντων   ινα  
    And they were   ♦   certain   Greeks   among   those   coming up   that  
προσκυνησωσιν   εν   τη   εορτη    
they might worship   in   the   feast;    
  21  ουτοι   ουν   προσηλθον   φιλιππω   τω   απο   βηθσαιδα   της   γαλιλαιας  
    these   therefore   came   to Philip,   who was   from   Bethsaida   ♦   of Galilee,  
και   ηρωτων   αυτον   λεγοντες   κυριε   θελομεν   τον   ιησουν   ιδειν    
and   they asked   him   saying,   Sir,   we desire   ♦   Jesus 3   to 1 see. 2    
  22  ερχεται   φιλιππος   και   λεγει   τω   ανδρεα   και   παλιν   ανδρεας   και  
    Comes 5   Philip 4   and   tells   ♦   Andrew,   and   again   Andrew   and  
φιλιππος   λεγουσιν   τω   ιησου    
Philip   tell   ♦   Jesus.    
  23  ο   δε   ιησους   απεκρινατο   αυτοις   λεγων   εληλυθεν   η   ωρα   ινα  
    But Jesus   ♦   ♦   answered   them   saying,   Has 3 come 4   the 1   hour 2   that  
δοξασθη   ο   υιος   του   ανθρωπου    
should be glorified   the   Son   ♦   of man.    
  24  αμην   αμην   λεγω   υμιν   εαν   μη   ο   κοκκος   του   σιτου   πεσων   εις   την  
    Verily   verily   I say   to you,   Unless   ♦   the   grain   ♦   of wheat   falling   into   the  
γην   αποθανη   αυτος   μονος   μενει   εαν   δε   αποθανη   πολυν   καρπον   φερει    
ground   should die,   it   alone   abides;   but if   ♦   it should die,   much   fruit   it bears.    
  25  ο   φιλων   την   ψυχην   αυτου   απολεσει   αυτην   και   ο   μισων   την  
    He that   loves   his life   ♦   ♦   shall lose   it,   and   he that   hates   ♦  
ψυχην   αυτου   εν   τω   κοσμω   τουτω   εις   ζωην   αιωνιον   φυλαξει   αυτην    
life 2   his 1   in   this world   ♦   ♦   to   life   eternal   shall keep   it.    
  26  εαν   εμοι   διακονη   τις   εμοι   ακολουθειτω   και   οπου   ειμι   εγω   εκει   και
    If   me 3   serve 2   anyone, 1   me   let him follow;   and   where   am 2   I 1   there   also
  ο   διακονος   ο   εμος   εσται   και   εαν   τις   εμοι   διακονη   τιμησει   αυτον  
  ♦   servant 2   ♦   my 1   shall be.   And   if   anyone   me   serve,   will 2 honour 5   him 1  
ο   πατηρ    
the 3   Father. 4    
  27  νυν   η   ψυχη   μου   τεταρακται   και   τι   ειπω   πατερ   σωσον   με  
    Now   my soul   ♦   ♦   has been troubled,   and   what   shall I say?   Father,   save   me  
εκ   της   ωρας   ταυτης   αλλα   δια   τουτο   ηλθον   εις   την   ωραν  
from   this hour.   ♦   ♦   But   on account of   this   I came   to   this hour.   ♦  
ταυτην    
♦    
  28  πατερ   δοξασον   σου   το   ονομα   ηλθεν   ουν   φωνη   εκ   του   ουρανου
    Father,   glorify   thy   ♦   name.   Therefore came   ♦   a voice   out of   ♦   heaven,
  και   εδοξασα   και   παλιν   δοξασω    
  Both 2   I glorified 1   and   again   will glorify [it].    
  29  ο   ουν   οχλος   ο   εστως   και   ακουσας   ελεγεν  
    Therefore the crowd   ♦   ♦   which   stood [there]   and   heard   said,  
βροντην   γεγονεναι   αλλοι   ελεγον   αγγελος   αυτω   λελαληκεν    
Thunder there has been:   ♦   others   said,   An angel   to him   has spoken.    
  30  απεκριθη   ο   ιησους   και   ειπεν   ου   δι   εμε   αυτη   η   φωνη   γεγονεν  
    Answered 2   ♦   Jesus 1   and   said,   Not   because   of me   this   ♦   voice   has come,  
αλλα   δι   υμας    
but   because of   you.    
  31  νυν   κρισις   εστιν   του   κοσμου   τουτου   νυν   ο   αρχων   του  
    Now   judgment   is   of this world;   ♦   ♦   now   the   prince   of this world  
κοσμου   τουτου   εκβληθησεται   εξω    
♦   ♦   shall be cast   out:    
  32  καγω   εαν   υψωθω   εκ   της   γης   παντας   ελκυσω   προς   εμαυτον    
    and I   if   I be lifted up   from   the   earth,   all 3   will 1 draw 2   to   myself.    
  33  τουτο   δε   ελεγεν   σημαινων   ποιω   θανατω   ημελλεν   αποθνησκειν    
    But this   ♦   he said,   signifying   by what   death   he was about   to die.    
  34  απεκριθη   αυτω   ο   οχλος   ημεις   ηκουσαμεν   εκ   του   νομου   οτι   ο  
    Answered 3   him 4   the 1   crowd, 2   We   heard   out of   the   law   that   the  
χριστος   μενει   εις   τον   αιωνα   και   πως   συ   λεγεις   οτι   δει   υψωθηναι  
Christ   abides   for ever,   ♦   ♦   and   how   thou 2   sayest, 1   that   must   be lifted up  
τον   υιον   του   ανθρωπου   τις   εστιν   ουτος   ο   υιος   του   ανθρωπου    
the   Son   ♦   of man?   Who   is   this   ♦   Son   ♦   of man?    
  35  ειπεν   ουν   αυτοις   ο   ιησους   ετι   μικρον   χρονον   το   φως   μεθ   υμων  
    Said 3   therefore 2   to 4 them 5   ♦   Jesus, 1   Yet   a little   while   the   light   with   you  
εστιν   περιπατειτε   εως   το   φως   εχετε   ινα   μη   σκοτια   υμας   καταλαβη  
is.   Walk   while   the   light   ye have,   that   not 3   darkness 1   you 5   may 2 overtake. 4  
και   ο   περιπατων   εν   τη   σκοτια   ουκ   οιδεν   που   υπαγει    
And   he who   walks   in   the   darkness   knows not   ♦   where   he goes.    
  36  εως   το   φως   εχετε   πιστευετε   εις   το   φως   ινα   υιοι   φωτος   γενησθε  
    While   the   light   ye have,   believe   in   the   light,   that   sons   of light   ye may become.  
ταυτα   ελαλησεν   ο   ιησους   και   απελθων   εκρυβη   απ   αυτων    
These things   spoke   ♦   Jesus,   and   going away   was hid   from   them.    
  37  τοσαυτα   δε   αυτου   σημεια   πεποιηκοτος   εμπροσθεν   αυτων  
    But [though] so many   ♦   he 2   signs 1   had done   before   them  
ουκ   επιστευον   εις   αυτον    
they believed not   ♦   on   him,    
  38  ινα   ο   λογος   ησαιου   του   προφητου   πληρωθη   ον   ειπεν   κυριε   τις  
    that   the   word   of Esaias   the   prophet   might be fulfilled,   which   he said,   Lord,   who  
επιστευσεν   τη   ακοη   ημων   και   ο   βραχιων   κυριου   τινι  
believed   ♦   our report?   ♦   and   the   arm   of [the] Lord   to whom  
απεκαλυφθη    
was it revealed?    
  39  δια   τουτο   ουκ   ηδυναντο   πιστευειν   οτι   παλιν   ειπεν  
    On this account   ♦   they could not   ♦   believe,   because   again   said  
ησαιας    
Esaias,    
  40  τετυφλωκεν   αυτων   τους   οφθαλμους   και   πεπωρωκεν   αυτων   την  
    He has blinded   their   ♦   eyes   and   has hardened   their   ♦  
καρδιαν   ινα   μη   ιδωσιν   τοις   οφθαλμοις   και   νοησωσιν  
heart,   that   they should not see   ♦   with the   eyes   and   understand  
τη   καρδια   και   επιστραφωσιν   και   ιασωμαι   αυτους    
with the   heart   and   be converted,   and   I should heal   them.    
  41  ταυτα   ειπεν   ησαιας   οτε   ειδεν   την   δοξαν   αυτου   και   ελαλησεν  
    These things   said   Esaias,   when   he saw   his glory,   ♦   ♦   and   spoke  
περι   αυτου    
concerning   him.    
  42  ομως   μεντοι   και   εκ   των   αρχοντων   πολλοι   επιστευσαν   εις  
    Although   indeed   even   from among   the   rulers   many   believed   on  
αυτον   αλλα   δια   τους   φαρισαιους   ουχ   ωμολογουν   ινα  
him,   but   on account of   the   Pharisees   they confessed not,   ♦   that  
μη   αποσυναγωγοι   γενωνται    
not   put out of the synagogue   they might be;    
  43  ηγαπησαν   γαρ   την   δοξαν   των   ανθρωπων   μαλλον   ηπερ   την   δοξαν   του
    for they loved   ♦   the   glory   ♦   of men   more   than   the   glory   ♦
  θεου    
  of God.    
  44  ιησους   δε   εκραξεν   και   ειπεν   ο   πιστευων   εις   εμε   ου  
    Jesus 2   but 1   cried   and   said,   He that   believes   on   me,   believes not  
πιστευει   εις   εμε   αλλ   εις   τον   πεμψαντα   με    
♦   on   me,   but   on   him who   sent   me;    
  45  και   ο   θεωρων   εμε   θεωρει   τον   πεμψαντα   με    
    and   he that   beholds   me,   beholds   him who   sent   me.    
  46  εγω   φως   εις   τον   κοσμον   εληλυθα   ινα   πας   ο   πιστευων   εις   εμε   εν  
    I   a light   into   the   world   have come,   that   everyone   that   believes   on   me   in  
τη   σκοτια   μη   μεινη    
the   darkness   not 2   may abide. 1    
  47  και   εαν   τις   μου   ακουση   των   ρηματων   και   μη   πιστευση   εγω  
    And   if   anyone   of 4 me 5   hear 1   the 2   words 3   and   not 2   believe, 1   I  
ου   κρινω   αυτον   ου   γαρ   ηλθον   ινα   κρινω   τον   κοσμον  
do not judge   ♦   him,   for I came not   ♦   ♦   that   I might judge   the   world,  
αλλ   ινα   σωσω   τον   κοσμον    
but   that   I might save   the   world.    
  48  ο   αθετων   εμε   και   μη   λαμβανων   τα   ρηματα   μου  
    He that   rejects   me   and   does not receive   ♦   my words,   ♦   ♦  
εχει   τον   κρινοντα   αυτον   ο   λογος   ον   ελαλησα   εκεινος   κρινει  
has   him who   judges   him:   the   word   which   I spoke,   that   shall judge  
αυτον   εν   τη   εσχατη   ημερα    
him   in   the   last   day;    
  49  οτι   εγω   εξ   εμαυτου   ουκ   ελαλησα   αλλ   ο   πεμψας   με   πατηρ  
    for   I   from   myself   spoke not,   ♦   but   the   who 2 sent 3   me 4   Father, 1  
αυτος   μοι   εντολην   εδωκεν   τι   ειπω   και   τι   λαλησω    
himself   me   commandment   gave   what   I should say   and   what   I should speak;    
  50  και   οιδα   οτι   η   εντολη   αυτου   ζωη   αιωνιος   εστιν   α  
    and   I know   that   his commandment   ♦   ♦   life   eternal   is.   What  
ουν   λαλω   εγω   καθως   ειρηκεν   μοι   ο   πατηρ   ουτως   λαλω    
therefore   speak 2   I, 1   as   has said   to me   the   Father,   so   I speak.
