ΤΟ ΚΑΤΑ ΙΩΑΝΝΗΝ ΑΓΙΟΝ ΕΥΑΓΓΕΛΙΟΝ

Gospel of John

 

CHAPTER 6
  1  μετα   ταυτα   απηλθεν   ο   ιησους   περαν   της   θαλασσης   της   γαλιλαιας  
    After   these things   went 2 away 3   ♦   Jesus 1   over   the   sea   ♦   of Galilee  
της   τιβεριαδος    
♦   (of Tiberias),    
  2  και   ηκολουθει   αυτω   οχλος   πολυς   οτι   εωρων   αυτου   τα   σημεια   α
    and   followed 4   him 5   a 1 crowd 3   great, 2   because   they saw   of him   the   signs   which
  εποιει   επι   των   ασθενουντων    
  he wrought   upon   those who   were sick.    
  3  ανηλθεν   δε   εις   το   ορος   ο   ιησους   και   εκει   εκαθητο   μετα  
    And went 2 up 3   ♦   into 4   the 5   moutain 6   ♦   Jesus, 1   and   there   sat   with  
των   μαθητων   αυτου    
his disciples;   ♦   ♦    
  4  ην   δε   εγγυς   το   πασχα   η   εορτη   των   ιουδαιων    
    and was 3   ♦   near 4   the 1   passover, 2   the   feast   of the   Jews.    
  5  επαρας   ουν   ο   ιησους   τους   οφθαλμους   και   θεασαμενος   οτι  
    Having 3 lifted 4 up 5   then 2   ♦   Jesus [his] 1   ♦   eyes,   and   having seen   that  
πολυς   οχλος   ερχεται   προς   αυτον   λεγει   προς   τον   φιλιππον   ποθεν  
a great   crowd   is coming   to   him,   he says   to   ♦   Philip,   Whence  
αγορασομεν   αρτους   ινα   φαγωσιν   ουτοι    
shall we buy   loaves   that   may 2 eat 3   these? 1    
  6  τουτο   δε   ελεγεν   πειραζων   αυτον   αυτος   γαρ   ηδει   τι   εμελλεν   ποιειν    
    But this   ♦   he said   trying   him,   for he   ♦   knew   what   he was about   to do.    
  7  απεκριθη   αυτω   φιλιππος   διακοσιων   δηναριων   αρτοι   ουκ  
    Answered   him   Philip,   For 2 two 3 hundred 4   denari 5   loaves 1   not 7  
αρκουσιν   αυτοις   ινα   εκαστος   αυτων   βραχυ   τι   λαβη    
are sufficient 6   for them   that   each   of them   some little   ♦   may receive.    
  8  λεγει   αυτω   εις   εκ   των   μαθητων   αυτου   ανδρεας   ο   αδελφος  
    Says   to him   one   of   his disciples,   ♦   ♦   Andrew   the   brother  
σιμωνος   πετρου    
of Simon   Peter,    
  9  εστιν   παιδαριον   εν   ωδε   ο   εχει   πεντε   αρτους   κριθινους   και   δυο  
    Is 4   little 2 boy 3   a 1   here,   who   has   five   loaves 2   barley 1   and   two  
οψαρια   αλλα   ταυτα   τι   εστιν   εις   τοσουτους    
small fishes;   but   these 3   what 1   are 2   for   so many?    
  10  ειπεν   δε   ο   ιησους   ποιησατε   τους   ανθρωπους   αναπεσειν   ην   δε  
    And said 2   ♦   ♦   Jesus, 1   Make   the   men   to recline.   Now was 3   ♦  
χορτος   πολυς   εν   τω   τοπω   ανεπεσον   ουν   οι   ανδρες   τον   αριθμον   ωσει  
grass 2   much 1   in   the   place:   reclined   therefore   the   men,   the   number   about  
πεντακισχιλιοι    
five thousand.    
  11  ελαβεν   δε   τους   αρτους   ο   ιησους   και   ευχαριστησας   διεδωκεν   τοις  
    Took 3   and 1   the 4   loaves 5   ♦   Jesus, 2   and   having given thanks   distributed   to the  
μαθηταις   οι   δε   μαθηται   τοις   ανακειμενοις   ομοιως   και   εκ   των
disciples,   and the   ♦   disciples   to those   reclining;   and in like manner   ♦   of   the
  οψαριων   οσον   ηθελον    
  small fishes   as much as   they wished.    
  12  ως   δε   ενεπλησθησαν   λεγει   τοις   μαθηταις   αυτου  
    And when   ♦   they were filled   he says   to his disciples,   ♦   ♦  
συναγαγετε   τα   περισσευσαντα   κλασματα   ινα   μη   τι   αποληται    
Gather together   the   over 2 and 3 above 4   fragments, 1   that   nothing   ♦   may be lost.    
  13  συνηγαγον   ουν   και   εγεμισαν   δωδεκα   κοφινους   κλασματων  
    They gathered together   therefore   also   filled   twelve   hand-baskets   of fragments  
εκ   των   πεντε   αρτων   των   κριθινων   α   επερισσευσεν   τοις  
from   the   five   loaves 2   ♦   barley 1   which   were over and above   to those who  
βεβρωκοσιν    
had eaten.    
  14  οι   ουν   ανθρωποι   ιδοντες   ο   εποιησεν   σημειον   ο   ιησους  
    The men therefore   ♦   ♦   having seen   what   had 3 done 4   sign 1   ♦   Jesus, 2  
ελεγον   οτι   ουτος   εστιν   αληθως   ο   προφητης   ο   ερχομενος   εις   τον  
said,   ♦   This   is   truly   the   prophet   who   is coming   into   the  
κοσμον    
world.    
  15  ιησους   ουν   γνους   οτι   μελλουσιν   ερχεσθαι   και   αρπαζειν   αυτον   ινα  
    Jesus   therefore   knowing   that   they are about   to come   and   seize   him,   that  
ποιησωσιν   αυτον   βασιλεα   ανεχωρησεν   παλιν   εις   το   ορος   αυτος   μονος    
they may make   him   king,   withdrew   again   to   the   moutain   himself   alone.    
  16  ως   δε   οψια   εγενετο   κατεβησαν   οι   μαθηται   αυτου   επι  
    And when   ♦   evening   it became   went 3 down 4   his 1 disciples 2   ♦   ♦   to  
την   θαλασσαν    
the   sea,    
  17  και   εμβαντες   εις   το   πλοιον   ηρχοντο   περαν   της   θαλασσης   εις  
    and   having entered   into   the   ship   they were going   over   the   sea   to  
καπερναουμ   και   σκοτια   ηδη   εγεγονει   και   ουκ   εληλυθει   προς   αυτους  
Capernaum.   And   dark   already   it had become,   and   not 3   had 2 come 4   to 5   them 6  
ο   ιησους    
♦   Jesus, 1    
  18  η   τε   θαλασσα   ανεμου   μεγαλου   πνεοντος   διηγειρετο    
    and the   ♦   sea   by a wind 2   strong 1   blowing   was agitated.    
  19  εληλακοτες   ουν   ως   σταδιους   εικοσιπεντε   η   τριακοντα   θεωρουσιν  
    Having rowed   then   about   furlongs 4   twenty-five 1   or 2   thirty 3   they see  
τον   ιησουν   περιπατουντα   επι   της   θαλασσης   και   εγγυς   του   πλοιου  
♦   Jesus   walking   on   the   sea,   and   near   the   ship  
γινομενον   και   εφοβηθησαν    
coming,   and   they were frightened.    
  20  ο   δε   λεγει   αυτοις   εγω   ειμι   μη   φοβεισθε    
    But he   ♦   says   to them,   I   am [he];   fear not.   ♦    
  21  ηθελον   ουν   λαβειν   αυτον   εις   το   πλοιον   και   ευθεως   το   πλοιον  
    They were willing   then   to receive   him   into   the   ship,   and   immediately   the   ship  
εγενετο   επι   της   γης   εις   ην   υπηγον    
was   at   the   land   to   which   they were going.    
  22  τη   επαυριον   ο   οχλος   ο   εστηκως   περαν   της   θαλασσης  
    On the   morrow   the   crowd   which   stood   the other side   of the   sea,  
ιδων   οτι   πλοιαριον   αλλο   ουκ   ην   εκει   ει   μη   εν   εκεινο   εις   ο  
having seen   that   small 3 ship 4   other 2   no 1   was   there   except   ♦   one   that   into   which  
ενεβησαν   οι   μαθηται   αυτου   και   οτι   ου   συνεισηλθεν   τοις  
entered   his disciples,   ♦   ♦   and   that   not 3   went 2 with 4   his 5 disciples 6  
μαθηταις   αυτου   ο   ιησους   εις   το   πλοιαριον   αλλα   μονοι   οι   μαθηται
♦   ♦   ♦   Jesus 1   into   the   small ship,   but   alone   his disciples   ♦
  αυτου   απηλθον    
  ♦   went away,    
  23  αλλα   δε   ηλθεν   πλοιαρια   εκ   τιβεριαδος   εγγυς   του   τοπου   οπου  
    (but other   ♦   came 3   small 1 ships 2   from   Tiberias   near   the   place   where  
εφαγον   τον   αρτον   ευχαριστησαντος   του   κυριου    
they ate   the   bread,   having 3 given 4 thanks 5   the 1   Lord;) 2    
  24  οτε   ουν   ειδεν   ο   οχλος   οτι   ιησους   ουκ   εστιν   εκει   ουδε   οι  
    when   therefore   saw 3   the 1   crowd 2   that   Jesus   not 2   is 1   there   nor   his disciples,  
μαθηται   αυτου   ενεβησαν   και   αυτοι   εις   τα   πλοια   και   ηλθον   εις  
♦   ♦   they entered 3   also 1   themselves 2   into   the   ships   and   came   to  
καπερναουμ   ζητουντες   τον   ιησουν    
Capernaum,   seeking   ♦   Jesus.    
  25  και   ευροντες   αυτον   περαν   της   θαλασσης   ειπον   αυτω   ραββι  
    And   having found   him   the other side   of the   sea,   they said   to him,   Rabbi,  
ποτε   ωδε   γεγονας    
when   here   hast thou come?    
  26  απεκριθη   αυτοις   ο   ιησους   και   ειπεν   αμην   αμην   λεγω   υμιν   ζητειτε   με  
    Answered 2   them 3   ♦   Jesus 1   and   said,   Verily   verily   I say   to you,   Ye seek   me,  
ουχ   οτι   ειδετε   σημεια   αλλ   οτι   εφαγετε   εκ   των   αρτων   και  
not   because   ye saw   signs,   but   because   ye ate   of   the   loaves   and  
εχορτασθητε    
were satisfied.    
  27  εργαζεσθε   μη   την   βρωσιν   την   απολλυμενην   αλλα   την   βρωσιν  
    Work   not [for]   the   food   when   perishes,   but [for]   the   food  
την   μενουσαν   εις   ζωην   αιωνιον   ην   ο   υιος   του   ανθρωπου   υμιν  
which   abides   unto   life   eternal,   which   the   Son   ♦   of man   to you  
δωσει   τουτον   γαρ   ο   πατηρ   εσφραγισεν   ο   θεος    
will give;   for him   ♦   the   Father   sealed,   ♦   [even] God.    
  28  ειπον   ουν   προς   αυτον   τι   ποιουμεν   ινα   εργαζωμεθα   τα   εργα   του
    They said   therefore   to   him,   What   do we,   that   we may work   the   works   ♦
  θεου    
  of God?    
  29  απεκριθη   ο   ιησους   και   ειπεν   αυτοις   τουτο   εστιν   το   εργον   του   θεου  
    Answered 2   ♦   Jesus 1   and   said   to them,   This   is   the   work   ♦   of God,  
ινα   πιστευσητε   εις   ον   απεστειλεν   εκεινος    
that   ye should believe   on   him whom   sent 2   he. 1    
  30  ειπον   ουν   αυτω   τι   ουν   ποιεις   συ   σημειον   ινα   ιδωμεν   και  
    They said   therefore   to him,   What   then 2   doest 3   you 4   sign, 1   that   we may see   and  
πιστευσωμεν   σοι   τι   εργαζη    
may believe   thee?   what   dost thou work?    
  31  οι   πατερες   ημων   το   μαννα   εφαγον   εν   τη   ερημω   καθως   εστιν  
    Our fathers   ♦   ♦   the   manna   ate   in   the   wilderness,   as   it is  
γεγραμμενον   αρτον   εκ   του   ουρανου   εδωκεν   αυτοις   φαγειν    
written,   Bread   out of   the   heaven   he gave   them   to eat.    
  32  ειπεν   ουν   αυτοις   ο   ιησους   αμην   αμην   λεγω   υμιν   ου   μωσης  
    Said 2   therefore 3   to 4 them 5   ♦   Jesus, 1   Verily   verily   I say   to you,   Not 3   Moses 1  
δεδωκεν   υμιν   τον   αρτον   εκ   του   ουρανου   αλλ   ο   πατηρ   μου  
has 2 given 4   you   the   bread   out of   the   heaven;   but   my father   ♦   ♦  
διδωσιν   υμιν   τον   αρτον   εκ   του   ουρανου   τον   αληθινον    
gives   you   the   bread 2   out 3 of 4   the 5   heaven 6   ♦   true. 1    
  33  ο   γαρ   αρτος   του   θεου   εστιν   ο   καταβαινων   εκ   του   ουρανου  
    For the   ♦   bread   ♦   of God   is   he who   comes down   out of   the   heaven,  
και   ζωην   διδους   τω   κοσμω    
and   life   gives   to the   world.    
  34  ειπον   ουν   προς   αυτον   κυριε   παντοτε   δος   ημιν   τον   αρτον   τουτον
    They said   therefore   to   him,   Lord,   always   give   to us   ♦   this bread.   ♦
   
  35  ειπεν   δε   αυτοις   ο   ιησους   εγω   ειμι   ο   αρτος   της   ζωης   ο  
    Said 3   and 1   to 4 them 5   ♦   Jesus, 2   I   am   the   bread   ♦   of life:   he that  
ερχομενος   προς   με   ου   μη   πειναση   και   ο   πιστευων   εις   εμε  
comes   to   me   in no wise   ♦   may hunger,   and   he that   believes   on   me  
ου   μη   διψηση   πωποτε    
in no wise   ♦   may thirst   at any time.    
  36  αλλ   ειπον   υμιν   οτι   και   εωρακατε   με   και   ου   πιστευετε    
    But   I said   to you   that   also   ye have seen   me   and   believe not.   ♦    
  37  παν   ο   διδωσιν   μοι   ο   πατηρ   προς   εμε   ηξει   και   τον   ερχομενον  
    All   that   gives 3   me 4   the 1   Father 2   to   me   shall come,   and   him that   comes  
προς   με   ου   μη   εκβαλω   εξω    
to   me   not at all   ♦   will I cast   out.    
  38  οτι   καταβεβηκα   εκ   του   ουρανου   ουχ   ινα   ποιω   το   θελημα   το  
    For   I have come down   out of   the   heaven,   not   that   I should do   ♦   will 2   ♦  
εμον   αλλα   το   θελημα   του   πεμψαντος   με    
my, 1   but   the   will   of him who   sent   me.    
  39  τουτο   δε   εστιν   το   θελημα   του   πεμψαντος   με   πατρος   ινα   παν   ο  
    And this   ♦   is   the   will   of the   who 2 sent 3   me 4   Father, 1   that [of]   all   that  
δεδωκεν   μοι   μη   απολεσω   εξ   αυτου   αλλα   αναστησω   αυτο
he has given   me,   I should not lose [any]   ♦   of   it,   but   should raise up   it
  εν   τη   εσχατη   ημερα    
  in   the   last   day.    
  40  τουτο   δε   εστιν   το   θελημα   του   πεμψαντος   με   ινα   πας   ο  
    And this   ♦   is   the   will   of him who   sent   me,   that   everyone   who  
θεωρων   τον   υιον   και   πιστευων   εις   αυτον   εχη   ζωην   αιωνιον   και  
sees   the   Son   and   believes   on   him,   should have   life   eternal;   and  
αναστησω   αυτον   εγω   τη   εσχατη   ημερα    
will 2 raise 3 up 4   him 5   I 1   at the   last   day.    
  41  εγογγυζον   ουν   οι   ιουδαιοι   περι   αυτου   οτι   ειπεν   εγω   ειμι   ο  
    Were murmuring   therefore   the   Jews   about   him,   because   he said,   I   am   the  
αρτος   ο   καταβας   εκ   του   ουρανου    
bread   which   came down   out of   the   heaven.    
  42  και   ελεγον   ουχ   ουτος   εστιν   ιησους   ο   υιος   ιωσηφ   ου   ημεις  
    And   were saying,   Is not this   ♦   ♦   Jesus   the   Son   of Joseph,   of whom   we  
οιδαμεν   τον   πατερα   και   την   μητερα   πως   ουν   λεγει   ουτος   οτι   εκ   του
know   the   father   and   the   mother?   how   therefore   says   he,   ♦   Out of   the
  ουρανου   καταβεβηκα    
  heaven   I have come down?    
  43  απεκριθη   ουν   ο   ιησους   και   ειπεν   αυτοις   μη   γογγυζετε   μετ  
    Answered 3   therefore 2   ♦   Jesus 1   and   said   to them,   Murmur not   ♦   with  
αλληλων    
one another.    
  44  ουδεις   δυναται   ελθειν   προς   με   εαν   μη   ο   πατηρ   ο   πεμψας   με  
    No one   is able   to come   to   me   unless   ♦   the   Father   who   sent   me  
ελκυση   αυτον   και   εγω   αναστησω   αυτον   τη   εσχατη   ημερα    
draw   him,   and   I   will raise up   him   at the   last   day.    
  45  εστιν   γεγραμμενον   εν   τοις   προφηταις   και   εσονται   παντες   διδακτοι  
    It is   written   in   the   prophets,   And   they shall be   all   taught  
του   θεου   πας   ουν   ο   ακουσας   παρα   του   πατρος   και   μαθων  
♦   of God.   Everyone   therefore   that   has heard   from   the   Father   and   has learnt,  
ερχεται   προς   με    
comes   to   me:    
  46  ουχ   οτι   τον   πατερα   τις   εωρακεν   ει   μη   ο   ων   παρα   του   θεου  
    not   that   the 4   Father 5   anyone 1   has 2 seen, 3   except   ♦   he who   is   from   ♦   God,  
ουτος   εωρακεν   τον   πατερα    
he   has seen   the   Father.    
  47  αμην   αμην   λεγω   υμιν   ο   πιστευων   εις   εμε   εχει   ζωην   αιωνιον    
    Verily   verily   I say   to you,   He that   believes   on   me   has   life   eternal.    
  48  εγω   ειμι   ο   αρτος   της   ζωης    
    I   am   the   bread   ♦   of life.    
  49  οι   πατερες   υμων   εφαγον   το   μαννα   εν   τη   ερημω   και   απεθανον    
    Your Fathers   ♦   ♦   ate   the   manna   in   the   desert,   and   died.    
  50  ουτος   εστιν   ο   αρτος   ο   εκ   του   ουρανου   καταβαινων   ινα   τις   εξ  
    This   is   the   bread   which   out of   ♦   heaven   comes down,   that   anyone   of  
αυτου   φαγη   και   μη   αποθανη    
it   may eat   and   not   die.    
  51  εγω   ειμι   ο   αρτος   ο   ζων   ο   εκ   του   ουρανου   καταβας   εαν   τις  
    I   am   the   bread 2   ♦   living, 1   which   out of   the   heaven   came down:   if   anyone  
φαγη   εκ   τουτου   του   αρτου   ζησεται   εις   τον   αιωνα   και   ο  
shall have eaten   of   this   ♦   bread   he shall live   for ever;   ♦   ♦   and   the  
αρτος   δε   ον   εγω   δωσω   η   σαρξ   μου   εστιν   ην   εγω   δωσω   υπερ  
bread   also   which   I   will give,   my flesh   ♦   ♦   is,   which   I   will give   for  
της   του   κοσμου   ζωης    
the   of 2 the 3   world 4   life. 1    
  52  εμαχοντο   ουν   προς   αλληλους   οι   ιουδαιοι   λεγοντες   πως  
    Were contending   therefore   with   one another   the   Jews   saying,   How  
δυναται   ουτος   ημιν   δουναι   την   σαρκα   φαγειν    
is able 2   he 1   us 5   to 3 give 4   ♦   flesh 7 [his] 6   to eat?    
  53  ειπεν   ουν   αυτοις   ο   ιησους   αμην   αμην   λεγω   υμιν   εαν   μη  
    Said 3   therefore 2   to 4 them 5   ♦   Jesus, 1   Verily   verily   I say   to you,   Unless   ♦  
φαγητε   την   σαρκα   του   υιου   του   ανθρωπου   και   πιητε  
ye shall have eaten   the   flesh   of the   Son   ♦   of man   and   shall have drunk  
αυτου   το   αιμα   ουκ   εχετε   ζωην   εν   εαυτοις    
his   ♦   blood,   ye have not   ♦   life   in   yourselves.    
  54  ο   τρωγων   μου   την   σαρκα   και   πινων   μου   το   αιμα   εχει   ζωην  
    He that   eats   my   ♦   flesh,   and   drinks   my   ♦   blood,   has   life  
αιωνιον   και   εγω   αναστησω   αυτον   τη   εσχατη   ημερα    
eternal,   and   I   will raise up   him   in the   last   day;    
  55  η   γαρ   σαρξ   μου   αληθως   εστιν   βρωσις   και   το   αιμα   μου  
    for my flesh   ♦   ♦   ♦   truly   is   food,   and   my blood   ♦   ♦  
αληθως   εστιν   ποσις    
truly   is   drink.    
  56  ο   τρωγων   μου   την   σαρκα   και   πινων   μου   το   αιμα   εν   εμοι   μενει  
    He that   eats   my   ♦   flesh   and   drinks   my   ♦   blood,   in   me   abides,  
καγω   εν   αυτω    
and I   in   him.    
  57  καθως   απεστειλεν   με   ο   ζων   πατηρ   καγω   ζω   δια   τον   πατερα  
    As   sent 4   me 5   the 1   living 2   Father, 3   and I   live   because of   the   Father,  
και   ο   τρωγων   με   κακεινος   ζησεται   δι   εμε    
also   he that   eats   me,   he also   shall live   because of   me.    
  58  ουτος   εστιν   ο   αρτος   ο   εκ   του   ουρανου   καταβας   ου   καθως  
    This   is   the   bread   which   out of   the   heaven   came down.   Not   as  
εφαγον   οι   πατερες   υμων   το   μαννα   και   απεθανον   ο   τρωγων  
ate 5   the 1   fathers 2   of 3 you 4   the   manna,   and   died:   he that   eats  
τουτον   τον   αρτον   ζησεται   εις   τον   αιωνα    
this   ♦   bread   shall live   for ever.   ♦   ♦    
  59  ταυτα   ειπεν   εν   συναγωγη   διδασκων   εν   καπερναουμ    
    These things   he said   in   [the] synagogue   teaching   in   Capernaum.    
  60  πολλοι   ουν   ακουσαντες   εκ   των   μαθητων   αυτου   ειπον  
    Many   therefore   having 4 heard 5   of 1   his 2 disciples 3   ♦   ♦   said,  
σκληρος   εστιν   ουτος   ο   λογος   τις   δυναται   αυτου   ακουειν    
Hard   is   this   ♦   word;   who   is able   it   to hear?    
  61  ειδως   δε   ο   ιησους   εν   εαυτω   οτι   γογγυζουσιν   περι   τουτου  
    Knowing 3   but 1   ♦   Jesus 2   in   himself   that   murmur 3   concerning 4   this 1  
οι   μαθηται   αυτου   ειπεν   αυτοις   τουτο   υμας   σκανδαλιζει    
his disciples   ♦   ♦   said   to them,   This 2   you 4   does 1 offend? 3    
  62  εαν   ουν   θεωρητε   τον   υιον   του   ανθρωπου   αναβαινοντα   οπου   ην   το
    If   then   ye should see   the   Son   ♦   of man   ascending up   where   he was   ♦
  προτερον    
  before?    
  63  το   πνευμα   εστιν   το   ζωοποιουν   η   σαρξ   ουκ   ωφελει   ουδεν   τα  
    The   Spirit   it is   which   quickens,   the   flesh   ♦   profits   nothing;   the  
ρηματα   α   εγω   λαλω   υμιν   πνευμα   εστιν   και   ζωη   εστιν    
words   which   I   speak   to you,   spirit   are   and   life   are;    
  64  αλλ   εισιν   εξ   υμων   τινες   οι   ου   πιστευουσιν   ηδει   γαρ   εξ  
    but   they are   of   you   some   who   believe not.   ♦   For knew 2   ♦   from 3  
αρχης   ο   ιησους   τινες   εισιν   οι   μη   πιστευοντες   και   τις  
[the] 4 beginning 5   ♦   Jesus 1   who   they are   who   believe not,   ♦   and   who  
εστιν   ο   παραδωσων   αυτον    
is   he who   shall deliver up   him.    
  65  και   ελεγεν   δια   τουτο   ειρηκα   υμιν   οτι   ουδεις   δυναται   ελθειν  
    And   he said,   Therefore   ♦   have I said   to you,   that   no one   is able   to come  
προς   με   εαν   μη   η   δεδομενον   αυτω   εκ   του   πατρος   μου    
to   me   unless   ♦   it be   given   to him   from   my Father.   ♦   ♦    
  66  εκ   τουτου   πολλοι   απηλθον   των   μαθητων   αυτου   εις   τα  
    From   that [time]   many   went 4 away 5   of 1 his 2 disciples 3   ♦   ♦   back,   ♦  
οπισω   και   ουκετι   μετ   αυτου   περιεπατουν    
♦   and   no more   with   him   walked.    
  67  ειπεν   ουν   ο   ιησους   τοις   δωδεκα   μη   και   υμεις   θελετε   υπαγειν
    Said 2   therefore 3   ♦   Jesus 1   to the   twelve,   ♦   Also 3   ye 2   are 1 wishing 4   to go away?
   
  68  απεκριθη   ουν   αυτω   σιμων   πετρος   κυριε   προς   τινα   απελευσομεθα  
    Answered 4   therefore 3   him 5   Simon 1   Peter, 2   Lord,   to   whom   shall we go?  
ρηματα   ζωης   αιωνιου   εχεις    
words   of life   eternal   thou hast;    
  69  και   ημεις   πεπιστευκαμεν   και   εγνωκαμεν   οτι   συ   ει   ο   χριστος   ο   υιος  
    and   we   have believed   and   have known   that   thou   art   the   Christ   the   Son  
του   θεου   του   ζωντος    
♦   of God 3   the 1   living. 2    
  70  απεκριθη   αυτοις   ο   ιησους   ουκ   εγω   υμας   τους   δωδεκα   εξελεξαμην   και  
    Answered   them   ♦   Jesus,   Not 3   I 2   you 5   the 6   twelve 7   did 1 choose, 4   and  
εξ   υμων   εις   διαβολος   εστιν    
of   you   one   a devil   is?    
  71  ελεγεν   δε   τον   ιουδαν   σιμωνος   ισκαριωτην   ουτος   γαρ   ημελλεν  
    But he spoke   ♦   ♦   of Judas   Simon’s [son],   Iscariote,   for he   ♦   was about  
αυτον   παραδιδοναι   εις   ων   εκ   των   δωδεκα    
him   to deliver up,   one 2   being 1   of   the   twelve.
