it came to pass

afterwards

journeyed through

city by city

ευαγγελιζομενος

and

village by village,

preaching

and

announcing the glad tidings,

the

βασιλειαν

kingdom

of God,

and

the

twelve

[were] with

him,

και

γυναικες

τινες

αι

ησαν

τεθεραπευμεναι

απο

πνευματων

and

women 2

certain 1

who

had been cured

♦

from

spirits 2

πονηρων

και

ασθενειων

μαρια

η

καλουμενη

μαγδαληνη

αφ

ης

wicked 1

and

infirmities,

Mary

who

is called

Magdalene,

from

whom

δαιμονια		επτα		εξεληλυθει
demons 2		seven 1		had gone out;

επιτροπου

and

Joanna

wife woman

of Chuza

a steward

of Herod;

and

Susanna,

and

ετεραι

who

were ministering

to him

of

their property.

were coming

him,

he spoke

by

a parable.

σπειραι

σπορον

αυτου

και

εν

τω

his seed;

and

κατεπατηθη

some

fell

by

the

way,

and

it was trampled upon,

and

τα

πετεινα

του

ουρανου

κατεφαγεν

αυτο

the

birds

of the

heaven

devoured

it.

ετερον

επεσεν

επι

την

πετραν

και

φυεν

εξηρανθη

δια

And

other

fell

upon

the

rock,

and

having sprung up

it withered,

because

το		μη		εχειν		ικμαδα
it		had not		♦		mositure;

και

ετερον

επεσεν

εν

μεσω

των

ακανθων

και

συμφυεισαι

αι

and

other

fell

in

[the] midst

of the

thorns,

and

having sprung up together

the

	ακανθαι		απεπνιξαν		αυτο
	thorns		choked		it;

και

ετερον

επεσεν

επι

την

γην

την

αγαθην

και

φυεν

and

other

fell

upon

the

ground

the

good,

and

having sprung up

εποιησεν

καρπον

εκατονταπλασιονα

ταυτα

λεγων

εφωνει

ο

εχων

produced

fruit

a hundredfold.

These things

saying

he cried,

He

that has

ωτα		ακουειν		ακουετω
ears		to hear		let him hear.

επηρωτων

δε

αυτον

οι

μαθηται

αυτου

λεγοντες

τις

ειη

And asked 3

him 4

his 1 disciples, 2

saying,

What

may be

this parable?		♦		♦

δε

ειπεν

υμιν

δεδοται

γνωναι

τα

μυστηρια

της

βασιλειας

And he

♦

said,

To you

it has been given

to know

the

mysteries

of the

kingdom

του

θεου

τοις

δε

λοιποις

εν

παραβολαις

ινα

βλεποντες

μη

♦

of God,

but to the

♦

rest

in

parables,

that

seeing

not 3

βλεπωσιν		και		ακουοντες		μη		συνιωσιν
they 1 may 2 see,		and		hearing		they may not understand.		♦

εστιν

δε

αυτη

η

παραβολη

ο

σπορος

εστιν

ο

λογος

του

θεου

Now is 3

this 4

the 1

parable: 2

The

seed

is

the

word

♦

of God:

οι

δε

παρα

την

οδον

εισιν

οι

ακουοντες

ειτα

ερχεται

ο

and those

♦

by

the

way

are

those who

hear;

then

comes

the

διαβολος

και

αιρει

τον

λογον

απο

της

καρδιας

αυτων

ινα

μη

devil

and

takes away

the

word

from

their heart,

♦

♦

lest

♦

πιστευσαντες		σωθωσιν
having believed		they should be saved.

οι

δε

επι

της

πετρας

οι

οταν

ακουσωσιν

μετα

χαρας

And those

♦

upon

the

rock,

those who

when

they hear,

with

joy

δεχονται

τον

λογον

και

ουτοι

ριζαν

ουκ

εχουσιν

οι

προς

καιρον

receive

the

word,

and

these

a root

have not,

♦

who

for

a time

πιστευουσιν

και

εν

καιρω

πειρασμου

αφιστανται

believe,

and

in

time

of trial

fall away.

το

δε

εις

τας

ακανθας

πεσον

ουτοι

εισιν

οι

ακουσαντες

And that which

♦

into

the

thorns

fell,

these

are

they who

having heard,

και

υπο

μεριμνων

και

πλουτου

και

ηδονων

του

βιου

πορευομενοι

and

under

cares

and

riches

and

pleasures

♦

of life

moving along

συμπνιγονται		και		ου		τελεσφορουσιν
are choked,		and		not 2		do bring to perfection. 1

το

δε

εν

τη

καλη

γη

ουτοι

εισιν

οιτινες

εν

καρδια

καλη

και

And that

♦

in

the

good

ground,

these

are

they who

in

a heart

right

and

αγαθη

ακουσαντες

τον

λογον

κατεχουσιν

και

καρποφορουσιν

εν

good

having heard

the

word

keep [it],

and

bring forth fruit

with

υπομονη
endurance.

ουδεις

δε

λυχνον

αψας

καλυπτει

αυτον

σκευει

η

υποκατω

And no one

♦

a lamp

having lighted

covers

it

with a vessel,

or

under

κλινης

τιθησιν

αλλ

επι

λυχνιας

επιτιθησιν

ινα

οι

εισπορευομενοι

a couch

puts [it],

but

on

a lamp-stand

puts [it],

that

they who

enter in

βλεπωσιν		το		φως
may see		the		light.

ου

γαρ

εστιν

κρυπτον

ο

ου

φανερον

γενησεται

ουδε

For not [anything]

♦

is

hidden

which

not 2

manifest 4

shall 1 become; 3

nor

αποκρυφον

ο

ου

γνωσθησεται

και

εις

φανερον

ελθη

secret

which

shall not be known

♦

and

to

light

come.

βλεπετε

ουν

πως

ακουετε

ος

γαρ

αν

εχη

δοθησεται

Take heed

therefore

how

you hear;

for whoever

♦

♦

may have,

shall 3 be 4 given 5

αυτω

και

ος

αν

μη

εχη

και

ο

δοκει

εχειν

αρθησεται

απ

to 1 him; 2

and

whoever

♦

may not have,

♦

even

what

he seems

to have

shall be taken

from

αυτου
him.

παρεγενοντο

δε

προς

αυτον

η

μητηρ

και

οι

αδελφοι

αυτου

και

And came

♦

to

him [his]

♦

mother

and

♦

brethren 2

his, 1

and

ουκ

ηδυναντο

συντυχειν

αυτω

δια

τον

οχλον

were not able

♦

to get

to him

because of

the

crowd.

και

απηγγελη

αυτω

λεγοντων

η

μητηρ

σου

και

οι

And

it was told

him,

saying,

Thy mother

♦

♦

and

thy brethren

αδελφοι

σου

εστηκασιν

εξω

ιδειν

σε

θελοντες

♦

♦

are standing

without,

to 2 see 3

thee 4

wishing. 1

ο

δε

αποκριθεις

ειπεν

προς

αυτους

μητηρ

μου

και

αδελφοι

μου

And he

♦

answering

said

to

them,

My mother

♦

and

my brethren

♦

ουτοι

εισιν

οι

τον

λογον

του

θεου

ακουοντες

και

ποιουντες

αυτον

those 2

are 1

who

the

word

♦

of God

are hearing

and

doing

it.

και

εγενετο

εν

μια

των

ημερων

και

αυτος

ενεβη

εις

πλοιον

και

And

it came to pass

on

one

of the

days

that

he

entered

into

a ship,

and

οι

μαθηται

αυτου

και

ειπεν

προς

αυτους

διελθωμεν

εις

το

his disciples,

♦

♦

and

he said

to

them,

Let us pass over

to

the

περαν		της		λιμνης		και		ανηχθησαν
other side		of the		lake;		and		the put off.

πλεοντων

δε

αυτων

αφυπνωσεν

και

κατεβη

λαιλαψ

ανεμου

εις

And as they sailed

♦

♦

he fell asleep;

and

came down

a storm

of wind

on

την

λιμνην

και

συνεπληρουντο

και

εκινδυνευον

the

lake,

and

they were being filled,

and

were in danger.

προσελθοντες

δε

διηγειραν

αυτον

λεγοντες

επιστατα

επιστατα

And having come to [him]

♦

they aroused

him,

saying,

Master,

Master,

απολλυμεθα

ο

δε

εγερθεις

επετιμησεν

τω

ανεμω

και

τω

κλυδωνι

we are perishing.

And he

♦

having arisen

rebuked

the

wind

and

the

raging

του

υδατος

και

επαυσαντο

και

εγενετο

γαληνη

of the

water;

and

they ceased,

and

there was

a calm.

ειπεν

δε

αυτοις

που

εστιν

η

πιστις

υμων

φοβηθεντες

δε

And he said

♦

to them,

Where

is

your faith?

♦

♦

And being afraid

♦

εθαυμασαν

λεγοντες

προς

αλληλους

τις

αρα

ουτος

εστιν

οτι

και

τοις

they wondered,

saying

to

one another,

Who

then

this 2

is, 1

that

even

the

ανεμοις

επιτασσει

και

τω

υδατι

και

υπακουουσιν

αυτω

winds

he commands

and

the

water,

and

they obey

him?

και

κατεπλευσαν

εις

την

χωραν

των

γαδαρηνων

ητις

εστιν

And

they sailed down

to

the

country

of the

Gadarenes,

which

is

αντιπεραν		της		γαλιλαιας
over against		♦		Galilee.

εξελθοντι

δε

αυτω

επι

την

γην

υπηντησεν

αυτω

ανηρ

And on his having gone forth

♦

♦

upon

the

land

met 4

him 5

a 1 man 3

τις

εκ

της

πολεως

ος

ειχεν

δαιμονια

εκ

χρονων

ικανων

και

certain 2

out of

the

city,

who

had

demons

for

a long time,

♦

and

ιματιον

ουκ

ενεδιδυσκετο

και

εν

οικια

ουκ

εμενεν

αλλ

εν

τοις

a garment

not 2

was wearing, 1

and

in

a house

did not abide,

♦

but

in

the

μνημασιν
tombs.

ιδων

δε

τον

ιησουν

και

ανακραξας

προσεπεσεν

αυτω

και

But having seen

♦

♦

Jesus

and

having cried out

he fell down before

him,

and

φωνη

μεγαλη

ειπεν

τι

εμοι

και

σοι

ιησου

υιε

του

θεου

του

with a voice 2

loud 1

said,

What

to me

and

to thee,

Jesus,

Son

♦

of God

the

υψιστου

δεομαι

σου

μη

με

βασανισης

Most High?

I beseech

of thee

not 3

me 5

thou 1 mayest 2 torment. 4

παρηγγελλεν

γαρ

τω

πνευματι

τω

ακαθαρτω

εξελθειν

απο

του

For he was charging

♦

the

spirit

the

unclean

to come out

from

the

ανθρωπου

πολλοις

γαρ

χρονοις

συνηρπακει

αυτον

και

εδεσμειτο

man.

For many

♦

times

it had seized

him;

and

he was bound,

αλυσεσιν

και

πεδαις

φυλασσομενος

και

διαρρησσων

τα

δεσμα

with chains

and

fetters

being kept,

and

breaking

the

bonds

ηλαυνετο

υπο

του

δαιμονος

εις

τας

ερημους

he was driven

by

the

demon

into

the

deserts.

επηρωτησεν

δε

αυτον

ο

ιησους

λεγων

τι

σοι

εστιν

ονομα

ο

δε

And asked 2

♦

him 3

♦

Jesus, 1

saying,

What

thy 2

is 1

name?

And he

♦

ειπεν

λεγεων

οτι

δαιμονια

πολλα

εισηλθεν

εις

αυτον

said,

Legion,

because

demons

many

he entered

into

him.

και

παρεκαλει

αυτον

ινα

μη

επιταξη

αυτοις

εις

την

αβυσσον

And

he besought

him

that

not 3

he 1 would 2 command

them

into

the

abyss

απελθειν
to go away.

32

ην

δε

εκει

αγελη

χοιρων

ικανων

βοσκομενων

εν

τω

ορει

Now there was

♦

there

a herd

of swine 2

many 1

feeding

in

the

mountain,

και

παρεκαλουν

αυτον

ινα

επιτρεψη

αυτοις

εις

εκεινους

εισελθειν

και

and

they besought

him

that

he would allow

them

into

those

to enter;

and

επετρεψεν		αυτοις
he allowed		them.

εξελθοντα

δε

τα

δαιμονια

απο

του

ανθρωπου

εισηλθεν

εις

τους

And having gone out

♦

the

demons

from

the

man

they entered

into

the

χοιρους

και

ωρμησεν

η

αγελη

κατα

του

κρημνου

εις

την

λιμνην

και

swine,

and

rushed 3

the 1

herd 2

down

the

steep

into

the

lake,

and

απεπνιγη
were choked.

ιδοντες

δε

οι

βοσκοντες

το

γεγενημενον

εφυγον

και

And having 5 seen 6

♦

those 1 who 2

fed 3 [them] 4

what

had taken place

fled,

and

απελθοντες

απηγγειλαν

εις

την

πολιν

και

εις

τους

αγρους

having gone away

related [it]

to

the

city

and

to

the

country.

εξηλθον

δε

ιδειν

το

γεγονος

και

ηλθον

προς

τον

ιησουν

και

And they went out

♦

to see

what

had taken place,

and

came

to

♦

Jesus,

and

ευρον

καθημενον

τον

ανθρωπον

αφ

ου

τα

δαιμονια

εξεληλυθει

found

seated

the

man

from

whom

the

demons

had gone out,

ιματισμενον

και

σωφρονουντα

παρα

τους

ποδας

του

ιησου

και

clothed

and

of sound mind,

at

the

feet

♦

of Jesus.

And

εφοβηθησαν
they were afraid.

απηγγειλαν

δε

αυτοις

και

οι

ιδοντες

πως

εσωθη

ο

And related 7

♦

to 8 them 9

also 2

those 1 who 3

had 4 seen 5 [it] 6

how

was healed

he who

δαιμονισθεις
had been possessed by demons.

και

ηρωτησαν

αυτον

απαν

το

πληθος

της

περιχωρου

των

And

asked

him

all

the

multitude

of the

country around

of the

γαδαρηνων

απελθειν

απ

αυτων

οτι

φοβω

μεγαλω

συνειχοντο

Gadarenes

to depart

from

them,

for

with fear 2

great 1

they were possessed.

αυτος

δε

εμβας

εις

το

πλοιον

υπεστρεψεν

And he

♦

having entered

into

the

ship

returned.

εδεετο

δε

αυτου

ο

ανηρ

αφ

ου

εξεληλυθει

τα

δαιμονια

And was 9 begging 10

to be [taken]

with

him.

οικον

σου

και

διηγου

οσα

εποιησεν

σοι

ο

Return

to

thy house

♦

and

relate

all that

πολιν

κηρυσσων

οσα

εποιησεν

And

he departed,

through

city

proclaiming

all that

υποστρεψαι

τον

ιησουν

απεδεξατο

αυτον

ο

glady received

him

the

οχλος

ησαν

γαρ

παντες

προσδοκωντες

αυτον

crowd,

for they were

all

looking for

him.

And

behold,

Jarius,

and

a ruler

of the

feet

θυγατηρ

μονογενης

ην

αυτω

ως

ετων

δωδεκα

και

αυτη

because

daughter 3

was

to him,

about

years 2 [old] 3

twelve, 1

and

she

απεθνησκεν

εν

δε

τω

υπαγειν

αυτον

οι

οχλοι

συνεπνιγον

αυτον

was dying.

And as went 2

crowds

thronged

him.

ουσα

εν

ρυσει

αιματος

απο

ετων

δωδεκα

ητις

εις

ιατρους

And

a woman

being

with

a flux

of blood

since

years 2

twelve, 1

who

on

physicians

προσαναλωσασα

ολον

τον

βιον

ουκ

ισχυσεν

υπ

ουδενος

having spent

whole 2

♦

living 3 [her] 1

♦

could

by

no one

θεραπευθηναι
be cured,

προσελθουσα

οπισθεν

ηψατο

του

κρασπεδου

του

ιματιου

αυτου

και

having come

behind

touched

the

border

♦

of garment 2

his, 1

and

παραχρημα

εστη

η

ρυσις

του

αιματος

αυτης

immediately

stopped

the

flux

of her blood.

♦

♦

και

ειπεν

ο

ιησους

τις

ο

αψαμενος

μου

αρνουμενων

δε

And

said, 2

♦

Jesus, 1

Who [is it]

that

was touching

me?

Denying 3

and 1

παντων

ειπεν

ο

πετρος

και

οι

μετ

αυτου

επιστατα

οι

οχλοι

all, 2

said 9

Peter 4

and 5

tose 6

with 7

him, 8

Master,

the

crowds

συνεχουσιν

σε

και

αποθλιβουσιν

και

λεγεις

τις

ο

αψαμενος

throng

thee

and

press,

and

sayest thou,

Who [is it]

that

was touching

μου
me?

ο

δε

ιησους

ειπεν

ηψατο

μου

τις

εγω

γαρ

εγνων

And Jesus

♦

♦

said,

Touched 3

me 4

some 1 one, 2

for I

♦

knew [that]

δυναμιν		εξελθουσαν		απ		εμου
power		went out		from		me.
