Gospel of Luke

 

CHAPTER 5
  1  εγενετο   δε   εν   τω   τον   οχλον   επικεισθαι   αυτω   του   ακουειν
    And it came to pass   ♦   during   the [time]   the   crowd   pressed on   him   ♦   to hear
  τον   λογον   του   θεου   και   αυτος   ην   εστως   παρα   την   λιμνην   γεννησαρετ    
  the   word   ♦   of God,   that   he   was   standing   by   the   lake   of Gennesaret:    
  2  και   ειδεν   δυο   πλοια   εστωτα   παρα   την   λιμνην   οι   δε   αλιεις  
    and   he saw   two   ships   standing   by   the   lake,   but the   ♦   fishermen  
αποβαντες   απ   αυτων   απεπλυναν   τα   δικτυα    
having gone out   from   them   washed   the   nets.    
  3  εμβας   δε   εις   εν   των   πλοιων   ο   ην   του   σιμωνος   ηρωτησεν  
    And having entered   ♦   into   one   of the   ships   which   was   ♦   Simon’s,   he asked  
αυτον   απο   της   γης   επαναγαγειν   ολιγον   και   καθισας   εδιδασκεν   εκ  
him   from   the   land   to put off   a little;   and   having sat down   he taught   from  
του   πλοιου   τους   οχλους    
the   ship   the   crowds.    
  4  ως   δε   επαυσατο   λαλων   ειπεν   προς   τον   σιμωνα   επαναγαγε   εις   το  
    And when   ♦   he ceased   speaking   he said   to   ♦   Simon,   Put off   into   the  
βαθος   και   χαλασατε   τα   δικτυα   υμων   εις   αγραν    
deep   and   let down   your nets   ♦   ♦   for   a haul.    
  5  και   αποκριθεις   ο   σιμων   ειπεν   αυτω   επιστατα   δι   ολης   της   νυκτος  
    And   answering   ♦   Simon   said   to him,   Master,   through   whole 2   the 1   night  
κοπιασαντες   ουδεν   ελαβομεν   επι   δε   τω   ρηματι   σου   χαλασω   το  
having laboured,   nothing   have we taken,   but at   ♦   thy word   ♦   ♦   I will let down   the  
δικτυον    
net.    
  6  και   τουτο   ποιησαντες   συνεκλεισαν   ιχθυων   πληθος   πολυ   διερρηγνυτο  
    And   this   having done   they enclosed   of fishes   a shoal 2   great; 1   was 6 breaking 7  
δε   το   δικτυον   αυτων    
and 3   ♦   not 5   their. 4    
  7  και   κατενευσαν   τοις   μετοχοις   τοις   εν   τω   ετερω   πλοιω   του  
    And   they beckoned   to the   partners   those   in   the   other   ship,   that coming  
ελθοντας   συλλαβεσθαι   αυτοις   και   ηλθον   και   επλησαν   αμφοτερα   τα  
♦   they should help   them;   and   they came,   and   filled   both   the  
πλοια   ωστε   βυθιζεσθαι   αυτα    
ships,   so that   were 2 sinking 3   they. 1    
  8  ιδων   δε   σιμων   πετρος   προσεπεσεν   τοις   γονασιν   του   ιησου  
    And having 3 seen 4   ♦   Simon 1   Peter 2   fell at   the   knees   ♦   of Jesus,  
λεγων   εξελθε   απ   εμου   οτι   ανηρ   αμαρτωλος   ειμι   κυριε    
saying,   Depart   from   me,   for   a man   a sinner   am I,   Lord.    
  9  θαμβος   γαρ   περιεσχεν   αυτον   και   παντας   τους   συν   αυτω   επι   τη  
    For astonishment   ♦   laid hold on   him   and   all   those   with   him,   at   the  
αγρα   των   ιχθυων   η   συνελαβον    
haul   of the   fishes   which   they had taken;    
  10  ομοιως   δε   και   ιακωβον   και   ιωαννην   υιους   ζεβεδαιου   οι   ησαν  
    and in like manner   ♦   also   James   and   John,   sons   of Zebedee,   who   were  
κοινωνοι   τω   σιμωνι   και   ειπεν   προς   τον   σιμωνα   ο   ιησους   μη   φοβου
partners   ♦   with Simon.   And   said 2   to 3   ♦   Simon 4   ♦   Jesus, 1   Fear not;   ♦
  απο   του   νυν   ανθρωπους   εση   ζωγρων    
  from   henceforth   ♦   men   thou shalt be   capturing.    
  11  και   καταγαγοντες   τα   πλοια   επι   την   γην   αφεντες   απαντα   ηκολουθησαν
    And   having brought   the   ships   to   ♦   land,   leaving   all   they followed
  αυτω    
  him.    
  12  και   εγενετο   εν   τω   ειναι   αυτον   εν   μια   των   πολεων   και   ιδου  
    And   it came to pass   as was 2   ♦   ♦   he 1   in   one   of the   cities,   that   behold,  
ανηρ   πληρης   λεπρας   και   ιδων   τον   ιησουν   πεσων   επι   προσωπον  
a man   full   of leprosy,   and   seeing   ♦   Jesus,   falling   upon   [his] face  
εδεηθη   αυτου   λεγων   κυριε   εαν   θελης   δυνασαι   με   καθαρισαι    
he besought   him,   saying,   Lord,   if   thou wilt   thou art able   me   to cleanse.    
  13  και   εκτεινας   την   χειρα   ηψατο   αυτου   ειπων   θελω  
    And   having stretched out   ♦   [his] hand   he touched   him,   saying,   I will;  
καθαρισθητι   και   ευθεως   η   λεπρα   απηλθεν   απ   αυτου    
be thou cleansed.   And   immediately   the   leprosy   departed   from   him.    
  14  και   αυτος   παρηγγειλεν   αυτω   μηδενι   ειπειν   αλλα   απελθων   δειξον  
    And   he   charged   him   no one   to tell;   but   having gone   shew  
σεαυτον   τω   ιερει   και   προσενεγκε   περι   του   καθαρισμου   σου  
thyself   to the   priest,   and   offer   for   thy cleansing,   ♦   ♦  
καθως   προσεταξεν   μωσης   εις   μαρτυριον   αυτοις    
as   ordered 2   Moses, 1   for   a testimony   to them.    
  15  διηρχετο   δε   μαλλον   ο   λογος   περι   αυτου   και   συνηρχοντο  
    But was spread abroad   ♦   still more   the   report   concerning   him;   and   were 3 coming 4  
οχλοι   πολλοι   ακουειν   και   θεραπευεσθαι   υπ   αυτου   απο   των  
crowds 2   great 1   to hear,   and   to be healed   by   him   from   their infirmities.  
ασθενειων   αυτων    
♦   ♦    
  16  αυτος   δε   ην   υποχωρων   εν   ταις   ερημοις   και   προσευχομενος    
    But he   ♦   was   retiring   in   the   deserts   and   praying.    
  17  και   εγενετο   εν   μια   των   ημερων   και   αυτος   ην   διδασκων   και  
    And   it came to pass   on   one   of the   days   that   he   was   teaching,   and  
ησαν   καθημενοι   φαρισαιοι   και   νομοδιδασκαλοι   οι   ησαν   εληλυθοτες  
there were   sitting by   Pharisees   and   teachers of the law,   who   were   come  
εκ   πασης   κωμης   της   γαλιλαιας   και   ιουδαιας   και   ιερουσαλημ   και  
out of   every   village   ♦   of Galilee   and   of Judaea   and   of Jerusalem:   and  
δυναμις   κυριου   ην   εις   το   ιασθαι   αυτους    
power   of [the] Lord   was [there]   for   ♦   to heal   them.    
  18  και   ιδου   ανδρες   φεροντες   επι   κλινης   ανθρωπον   ος   ην  
    And   behold,   men   carrying   upon   a couch   a man   who   was  
παραλελυμενος   και   εζητουν   αυτον   εισενεγκειν   και   θειναι   ενωπιον  
paralysed,   and   they sought   him 3   to 1 bring 2 in   and   to place [him]   before  
αυτου    
him.    
  19  και   μη   ευροντες   δια   ποιας   εισενεγκωσιν   αυτον   δια   τον  
    And   not   having found   by   what way   they should bring in   him   on account of   the  
οχλον   αναβαντες   επι   το   δωμα   δια   των   κεραμων   καθηκαν   αυτον  
crowd,   going up   on   the   housetop,   through   the   tiles   they let down   him  
συν   τω   κλινιδιω   εις   το   μεσον   εμπροσθεν   του   ιησου    
with   the   little couch   into   the   midst   before   ♦   Jesus.    
  20  και   ιδων   την   πιστιν   αυτων   ειπεν   αυτω   ανθρωπε   αφεωνται  
    And   seeing   ♦   their faith   ♦   he said   to him,   Man,   have 3 been 4 forgiven 5  
σοι   αι   αμαρτιαι   σου    
thee 6   thy 1 sins. 2   ♦   ♦    
  21  και   ηρξαντο   διαλογιζεσθαι   οι   γραμματεις   και   οι   φαρισαιοι   λεγοντες  
    And   began   to reason   the   scribes   and   the   Pharisees,   saying,  
τις   εστιν   ουτος   ος   λαλει   βλασφημιας   τις   δυναται   αφιεναι   αμαρτιας  
Who   is   this   who   speaks   blasphemies?   who   is able   to forgive   sins,  
ει   μη   μονος   ο   θεος    
except   ♦   alone 2   ♦   God? 1    
  22  επιγνους   δε   ο   ιησους   τους   διαλογισμους   αυτων   αποκριθεις  
    But knowing 2   ♦   ♦   Jesus 1   their reasonings   ♦   ♦   answering  
ειπεν   προς   αυτους   τι   διαλογιζεσθε   εν   ταις   καρδιαις   υμων    
said   to   them,   Why   reason ye   in   ♦   hearts 2   your? 1    
  23  τι   εστιν   ευκοπωτερον   ειπειν   αφεωνται   σοι   αι   αμαρτιαι  
    which   is   easier,   to say,   Have been forgiven   thee   thy sins,   ♦  
σου   η   ειπειν   εγειραι   και   περιπατει    
♦   or   to say,   Arise   and   walk?    
  24  ινα   δε   ειδητε   οτι   εξουσιαν   εχει   ο   υιος   του   ανθρωπου   επι   της  
    But that   ♦   ye may know   that   authority   has   the   Son   ♦   of man   on   the  
γης   αφιεναι   αμαρτιας   ειπεν   τω   παραλελυμενω   σοι   λεγω   εγειραι   και
earth   to forgive   sins,   he said   to the   paralysed,   To thee   I say,   Arise,   and
  αρας   το   κλινιδιον   σου   πορευου   εις   τον   οικον   σου    
  having taken up   thy little couch   ♦   ♦   go   to   ♦   house 2   thy. 1    
  25  και   παραχρημα   αναστας   ενωπιον   αυτων   αρας   εφ   ω  
    And   immediately   having stood up   before   them,   having taken up   [that] on   which  
κατεκειτο   απηλθεν   εις   τον   οικον   αυτου   δοξαζων   τον   θεον    
he was lying,   he departed   to   his house,   ♦   ♦   glorifying   ♦   God.    
  26  και   εκστασις   ελαβεν   απαντας   και   εδοξαζον   τον   θεον   και   επλησθησαν  
    And   amazement   seized   all,   and   they glorified   ♦   God,   and   were filled  
φοβου   λεγοντες   οτι   ειδομεν   παραδοξα   σημερον    
with fear,   saying,   ♦   We have seen   strange things   to-day.    
  27  και   μετα   ταυτα   εξηλθεν   και   εθεασατο   τελωνην   ονοματι   λευιν  
    And   after   these things   he went forth,   and   saw   a tax-gatherer,   by name   Levi,  
καθημενον   επι   το   τελωνιον   και   ειπεν   αυτω   ακολουθει   μοι    
sitting   at   the   tax office,   and   said   to him,   Follow   me.    
  28  και   καταλιπων   απαντα   αναστας   ηκολουθησεν   αυτω    
    And   having left   all,   having arisen   he followed   him.    
  29  και   εποιησεν   δοχην   μεγαλην   ο   λευις   αυτω   εν   τη   οικια  
    And   made 2   entertainment 5   a 3 great 4   ♦   Levi 1   for him   in   his house,   ♦  
αυτου   και   ην   οχλος   τελωνων   πολυς   και   αλλων   οι   ησαν   μετ  
♦   and   there was   a multitude 2   of 3 tax-gatherers 4   great 1   and   others   who   were   with  
αυτων   κατακειμενοι    
them   reclining [at table].    
  30  και   εγογγυζον   οι   γραμματεις   αυτων   και   οι   φαρισαιοι   προς  
    And   murmured   their scribes   ♦   ♦   and   the   Pharisees   at  
τους   μαθητας   αυτου   λεγοντες   δια   τι   μετα   τελωνων   και  
his disciples,   ♦   ♦   saying,   Why   with   tax-gatherers   and   sinners  
αμαρτωλων   εσθιετε   και    
do you eat   and   drink?    
  31  και   αποκριθεις   ο   ιησους   ειπεν   προς   αυτους   ου   χρειαν   εχουσιν   οι  
    And   answering   ♦   Jesus   said   to   them,   No   need   have   they who  
υγιαινοντες   ιατρου   αλλ   οι   κακως   εχοντες    
are in health   of a physician,   but   they who   ill   are.    
  32  ουκ   εληλυθα   καλεσαι   δικαιους   αλλα   αμαρτωλους   εις   μετανοιαν
    Not 3   I 1 have 2 come   to call   righteous [ones],   but   sinners   to   repentance.
   
  33  οι   δε   ειπον   προς   αυτον   δια   τι   οι   μαθηται   ιωαννου  
    And they   ♦   said   to   him,   Why   the 2   disciples 3   of 4 John 5   fast 1  
νηστευουσιν   πυκνα   και   δεησεις   ποιουνται   ομοιως   και   οι  
often   and   supplications   make,   in like manner   also   those   of the  
των   φαρισαιων   οι   δε   σοι   εσθιουσιν   και    
Pharisees,   but those   ♦   of thee   eat   and   drink?    
  34  ο   δε   ειπεν   προς   αυτους   μη   δυνασθε   τους   υιους   του   νυμφωνος  
    And he   ♦   said   to   them,   ♦   Are ye able   the 3   sons 4   of 5 the 6   bridechamber 7  
εν   ω   ο   νυμφιος   μετ   αυτων   εστιν   ποιησαι   νηστευειν    
while 10   ♦   the 11   bridegroom 12   with 14   them 15   is 13   to 1 make 2   to 8 fast? 9    
  35  ελευσονται   δε   ημεραι   και   οταν   απαρθη   απ   αυτων   ο   νυμφιος  
    But will come   ♦   days   also 2   when 1   shall be taken away   from   them   the   bridegroom,  
τοτε   νηστευσουσιν   εν   εκειναις   ταις   ημεραις    
then   they will fast   in   those   ♦   days.    
  36  ελεγεν   δε   και   παραβολην   προς   αυτους   οτι   ουδεις   επιβλημα  
    And he spoke   ♦   also   a parable   to   them,   ♦   No one   a piece  
ιματιου   καινου   επιβαλλει   επι   ιματιον   παλαιον   ει   δε   μηγε   και   το  
of a garment 2   new 1   puts   on   garment 3   an 1 old, 2   otherwise   ♦   ♦   both   the  
καινον   σχιζει   και   τω   παλαιω   ου   συμφωνει   επιβλημα  
new   he rends,   and   with the   old   does not agreee   ♦   [the] piece  
το   απο   του   καινου    
which [is]   from   the   new.    
  37  και   ουδεις   βαλλει   οινον   νεον   εις   ασκους   παλαιους   ει   δε   μηγε  
    And   no one   puts   wine 2   new 1   into   skins 2   old, 1   otherwise   ♦   ♦  
ρηξει   ο   νεος   οινος   τους   ασκους   και   αυτος   εκχυθησεται   και   οι  
will 4 burst 5   the 1   new 2   wine 3   the   skins,   and   it   will be poured out,   and   the  
ασκοι   απολουνται    
skins   will be destroyed;    
  38  αλλα   οινον   νεον   εις   ασκους   καινους   βλητεον   και   αμφοτεροι  
    but   wine 2   new 1   into   skins 2   new 1   is to be put,   and   both  
συντηρουνται    
are preserved together.    
  39  και   ουδεις   πιων   παλαιον   ευθεως   θελει   νεον   λεγει   γαρ   ο  
    And   no one   having drunk   old [wine]   immediately   desires   new;   for he says,   ♦   the  
παλαιος   χρηστοτερος   εστιν    
old   better 2   is. 1
