υπεστρεψεν

απο

του

ιορδανου

And Jesus,

♦

of 2 [the] 3 Spirit 5

returned

from

the

Jordan,

και

ηγετο

εν

τω

πνευματι

εις

την

ερημον

and

was led

by

the

Spirit

into

the

wilderness

2

ημερας

τεσσαρακοντα

πειραζομενος

υπο

του

διαβολου

και

ουκ

εφαγεν

days 2

forty, 1

being tempted

by

the

devil;

and

♦

he ate

ουδεν

εν

ταις

ημεραις

εκειναις

και

συντελεσθεισων

αυτων

nothing

in

those days,

♦

♦

and

being 2 ended 3

they 1

υστερον		επεινασεν
afterwards		he hungered.

και

ειπεν

αυτω

ο

διαβολος

ει

υιος

ει

του

θεου

ειπε

τω

And

said 3

to 4 him 5

the 1

devil,

If

Son

thou art

♦

of God,

speak

to this stone

λιθω		τουτω		ινα		γενηται		αρτος
♦		♦		that		it become		bread.

και

απεκριθη

ιησους

προς

αυτον

λεγων

γεγραπται

οτι

ουκ

επ

αρτω

And

answered 2

Jesus 1

to

him,

saying,

It has been written,

That

not

on

bread

μονω

ζησεται

ο

ανθρωπος

αλλ

επι

παντι

ρηματι

θεου

alone

shall live 2

♦

man, 1

but

by

every

word

of God.

και

αναγαγων

αυτον

ο

διαβολος

εις

ορος

υψηλον

εδειξεν

αυτω

And

leading 3 up 5

him 4

the 1

devil 2

into

a mountain 2

high 1

shewed

him

πασας

τας

βασιλειας

της

οικουμενης

εν

στιγμη

χρονου

all

the

kingdoms

of the

habitable world

in

a moment

of time.

και

ειπεν

αυτω

ο

διαβολος

σοι

δωσω

την

εξουσιαν

And

said 3

to 4 him 5

the 1

devil, 2

To thee

will I give

this 2 authority 3

♦

ταυτην

απασαν

και

την

δοξαν

αυτων

οτι

εμοι

παραδεδοται

και

♦

all 1

and

their glory;

♦

♦

for

to me

it has been delivered,

and

ω		εαν		θελω		διδωμι		αυτην
to whomsoever		♦		I wish		I give		it.

ουν

εαν

προσκυνησης

ενωπιον

μου

εσται

σου

παντα

Thou

therefore

if

thou wilt worship

before

me,

shall 3 be 4

thine 5

all 1 things. 2

και

αποκριθεις

αυτω

ειπεν

ο

ιησους

υπαγε

οπισω

μου

σατανα

And

answering

him

said 2

♦

Jesus, 1

Get thee

behind

me,

Satan;

γεγραπται

γαρ

προσκυνησεις

κυριον

τον

θεον

σου

και

αυτω

for it has been written,

♦

Thou shalt worship

[the] Lord

thy God,

♦

♦

and

him

μονω		λατρευσεις
only		shalt thou serve.

και

ηγαγεν

αυτον

εις

ιερουσαλημ

και

εστησεν

αυτον

επι

το

πτερυγιον

And

he led

him

to

Jerusalem,

and

set

him

upon

the

edge

του

ιερου

και

ειπεν

αυτω

ει

ο

υιος

ει

του

θεου

βαλε

σεαυτον

of the

temple,

and

said

to him,

If

the

Son

thou art

♦

of God,

cast

thyself

εντευθεν		κατω
hence 2		down; 1

γεγραπται

γαρ

οτι

τοις

αγγελοις

αυτου

εντελειται

for it has been written,

♦

That

to his angels

♦

♦

he will give charge

περι		σου		του		διαφυλαξαι		σε
concerning		thee,		♦		to keep		thee;

και

οτι

επι

χειρων

αρουσιν

σε

μηποτε

προσκοψης

προς

λιθον

and

that

in

[their] hands

shall they bear

thee,

lest

thou strike

against

a stone

τον		ποδα		σου
thy foot.		♦		♦

12

και

αποκριθεις

ειπεν

αυτω

ο

ιησους

οτι

ειρηται

ουκ

And

answering

said 2

to 3 him 4

♦

Jesus, 1

♦

It has been said,

Thou shalt not tempt

εκπειρασεις		κυριον		τον		θεον		σου
♦		[the] Lord		thy God.		♦		♦

και

συντελεσας

παντα

πειρασμον

ο

διαβολος

απεστη

απ

αυτου

And

having finished

every

temptation

the

devil

departed

from

him

αχρι		καιρου
for a time.		♦

14

και

υπεστρεψεν

ο

ιησους

εν

τη

δυναμει

του

πνευματος

εις

την

And

returned 2

♦

Jesus 1

in

the

power

of the

Spirit

to

♦

γαλιλαιαν

και

φημη

εξηλθεν

καθ

ολης

της

περιχωρου

περι

αυτου

Galilee;

and

a rumour

went out

into

whole 2

the 1

country around

concerning

him.

και

αυτος

εδιδασκεν

εν

ταις

συναγωγαις

αυτων

δοξαζομενος

υπο

and

he

taught

in

♦

synagogues 2

their, 1

being glorified

by

παντων
all.

και

ηλθεν

εις

την

ναζαρετ

ου

ην

τεθραμμενος

και

εισηλθεν

And

he came

to

♦

Nazareth,

where

he was

brought up;

and

he entered

κατα

το

ειωθος

αυτω

εν

τη

ημερα

των

σαββατων

εις

την

according to

his custom

♦

♦

on

the

day

of the

sabbaths

into

the

συναγωγην		και		ανεστη		αναγνωναι
synagogue,		and		stood up		to read.

και

επεδοθη

αυτω

βιβλιον

ησαιου

του

προφητου

και

αναπτυξας

and

there was given

to him

[the] book

of Esaias

the

prophet,

and

having unrolled

το

βιβλιον

ευρεν

τον

τοπον

ου

ην

γεγραμμενον

the

book

he found

the

place

where

it was

written,

πνευμα

κυριου

επ

εμε

ου

ενεκεν

εχρισεν

με

[The] Spirit

of [the] Lord [is]

upon

me,

on account of which

♦

he anointed

me

ευαγγελιζεσθαι		πτωχοις		απεσταλκεν		με		ιασασθαι		τους
to announce the glad tidings		to [the] poor,		he has sent		me		to heal		the

συντετριμμενους

την

καρδιαν

κηρυξαι

αιχμαλωτοις

αφεσιν

και

broken

♦

in heart,

to proclaim

to captives

deliverance

and

τυφλοις

αναβλεψιν

αποστειλαι

τεθραυσμενους

εν

αφεσει

to [the] blind

recovery of sight,

to send forth

[the] crushed

in

deliverance,

	19	κηρυξαι		ενιαυτον		κυριου		δεκτον
		to proclaim		[the] year 2		of 3 [the] 4 Lord 5		acceptable. 1

και

πτυξας

το

βιβλιον

αποδους

τω

υπηρετη

εκαθισεν

και

And

having rolled up

the

book,

having delivered [it]

to the

attendant

he sat down,

and

παντων

εν

τη

συναγωγη

οι

οφθαλμοι

ησαν

ατενιζοντες

αυτω

of 3 all 4

in 5

the 6

synagogue 7

the 1

eyes 2

were

fixed upon

him.

ηρξατο

δε

λεγειν

προς

αυτους

οτι

σημερον

πεπληρωται

η

And he began

♦

to say

to

them,

♦

To-day

is fulfilled

this scripture

γραφη

αυτη

εν

τοις

ωσιν

υμων

♦

♦

in

your ears.

♦

♦

και

παντες

εμαρτυρουν

αυτω

και

εθαυμαζον

επι

τοις

λογοις

της

And

all

bore witness

to him,

and

wondered

at

the

words

♦

χαριτος

τοις

εκπορευομενοις

εκ

του

στοματος

αυτου

και

ελεγον

of grace

which

proceded

out of

his mouth;

♦

♦

and

they said,

ουχ

ουτος

εστιν

ο

υιος

ιωσηφ

the

son

of Joseph?

και

ειπεν

προς

αυτους

παντως

ερειτε

μοι

την

παραβολην

And

he said

to

them,

Surely

ye will say

to me

the parable,

♦

ταυτην

ιατρε

θεραπευσον

σεαυτον

οσα

ηκουσαμεν

γενομενα

εν

♦

Physician

heal

thyself;

whatsoever

we have heard

being done

in

τη

καπερναουμ

ποιησον

και

ωδε

εν

τη

πατριδι

σου

♦

Capernaum,

do

also

here

in

thine [own] country.

♦

♦

ειπεν

δε

αμην

λεγω

υμιν

οτι

ουδεις

προφητης

δεκτος

εστιν

εν

But he said,

♦

Verily

I say

to you,

that

no

prophet

acceptable

is

in

τη		πατριδι		αυτου
his [own] country.		♦		♦

αληθειας

πολλαι

χηραι

ησαν

εν

ταις

ημεραις

ηλιου

I say

to you,

many

widows

were

in

the

days

of Elias

εν

τω

ισραηλ

οτε

εκλεισθη

ο

ουρανος

επι

ετη

τρια

και

μηνας

εξ

in

♦

Israel,

when

the 1

heaven 2

for

years 2

three 1

and

months 2

six, 1

ως

εγενετο

λιμος

μεγας

επι

πασαν

την

γην

when

there was

a famine 2

great 1

upon

all

the

land,

και

προς

ουδεμιαν

αυτων

επεμφθη

ηλιας

ει

μη

εις

σαρεπτα

της

and

to

none

of them

was sent

Elias

except

♦

to

Sarepta

♦

σιδωνος		προς		γυναικα		χηραν
of Sidonia,		to		a woman 2		widow. 1

και

πολλοι

λεπροι

ησαν

επι

ελισσαιου

του

προφητου

εν

τω

And

many

lepers

were

in the time

of Elisha

the

prophet

in

♦

ισραηλ

και

ουδεις

αυτων

εκαθαρισθη

ει

μη

νεεμαν

ο

συρος

Israel,

and

none

of them

was cleansed

except

♦

Naaman

the

Syrian.

και

επλησθησαν

παντες

θυμου

εν

τη

συναγωγη

ακουοντες

And

were 5 filled 6

all 1

with 7 indignation 8

in 2

the 3

synagogue, 4

hearing

ταυτα
these things;

29

και

ανασταντες

εξεβαλον

αυτον

εξω

της

πολεως

και

ηγαγον

αυτον

and

having risen up

they cast

him

out

of [the]

city,

and

led

him

εως

της

οφρυος

του

ορους

εφ

ου

η

πολις

αυτων

ωκοδομητο

unto

the

brow

of the

mountain

upon

which

their city

♦

♦

had been built,

εις		το		κατακρημνισαι		αυτον
for		♦		to thrown down 2 headlong 3		him; 1

αυτος

δε

διελθων

δια

μεσου

αυτων

επορευετο

but he

♦

passing

through

[the] midst

of them

went away.

31

και

κατηλθεν

εις

καπερναουμ

πολιν

της

γαλιλαιας

και

ην

διδασκων

And

he went down

to

Capernaum

a city

♦

of Galilee,

and

was

teaching

αυτους		εν		τοις		σαββασιν
them		on		the		sabbaths.

32

και

εξεπλησσοντο

επι

τη

διδαχη

αυτου

οτι

εν

εξουσια

ην

And

they were astonished

at

this teaching,

♦

♦

for

with

authority

was

ο		λογος		αυτου
his word.		♦		♦

33

και

εν

τη

συναγωγη

ην

ανθρωπος

εχων

πνευμα

δαιμονιου

And

in

the

synagogue

was

a man

having

a spirit

of a demon

ακαθαρτου		και		ανεκραξεν		φωνη		μεγαλη
unclean;		and		he cried out		with a voice 2		loud, 1

λεγων

εα

τι

ημιν

και

σοι

ιησου

ναζαρηνε

ηλθες

απολεσαι

saying,

Ah!

what

to us

and

to thee,

Jesus,

Nazarene?

Art thou come

to destroy

ημας

οιδα

σε

τις

ει

ο

αγιος

του

θεου

us?

I know

thee

who

thou art,

the

Holy [One]

♦

of God.

35

και

επετιμησεν

αυτω

ο

ιησους

λεγων

φιμωθητι

και

εξελθε

εξ

And

rebuked 2

him 3

♦

Jesus, 1

saying,

Hold thy peace,

and

come forth

out of

αυτου

και

ριψαν

αυτον

το

δαιμονιον

εις

το

μεσον

εξηλθεν

απ

him.

And

having 3 thrown 4

him 5

the 1

demon 2

into

the

midst

came out

from

αυτου		μηδεν		βλαψαν		αυτον
him,		in nothing		having hurt		him.

και

εγενετο

θαμβος

επι

παντας

και

συνελαλουν

προς

αλληλους

And

came 2

astonishment 1

upon

all,

and

they spoke

to

one another,

λεγοντες

τις

ο

λογος

ουτος

οτι

εν

εξουσια

και

δυναμει

επιτασσει

τοις

saying,

What

♦

word

[is] this,

that

with

authority

and

power

he commands

the

	ακαθαρτοις		πνευμασιν		και		εξερχονται
	unclean		spirits,		and		they come out?

και

εξεπορευετο

ηχος

περι

αυτου

εις

παντα

τοπον

της

And

went 3 out 4

a 1 rumour 2

concerning

him

into

every

place

of the

περιχωρου
country around.

38

αναστας

δε

εκ

της

συναγωγης

εισηλθεν

εις

την

οικιαν

σιμωνος

And rising up

♦

out of

the

synagogue

he entered

into

the

house

of Simon.

η

πενθερα

δε

του

σιμωνος

ην

συνεχομενη

πυρετω

μεγαλω

και

The 2

mother-in-law 3

and 1

♦

of Simon

was

oppressed with

a fever 2

great; 1

and

ηρωτησαν		αυτον		περι		αυτης
they asked		him		for		her.

και

επιστας

επανω

αυτης

επετιμησεν

τω

πυρετω

και

αφηκεν

αυτην

And

standing

over

her

he rebuked

the

fever,

and

it left

her;

παραχρημα		δε		αναστασα		διηκονει		αυτοις
and immediately		♦		arising		she served		them.

δυνοντος

δε

του

ηλιου

παντες

οσοι

ειχον

ασθενουντας

And at the going down

♦

of the

sun

all

as many as

had

[persons] sick

νοσοις

ποικιλαις

ηγαγον

αυτους

προς

αυτον

ο

δε

ενι

εκαστω

with diseases 2

various 1

brought

them

to

him,

and he

♦

on 4 one 6

each 5

αυτων

τας

χειρας

επιθεις

εθεραπευσεν

αυτους

of 7 them 8

♦

hands 3

having 1 laid 2

healed

them;

εξηρχετο

δε

και

δαιμονια

απο

πολλων

κραζοντα

και

λεγοντα

οτι

and went 2 out 3

♦

also 4

demons 1

from

many,

crying out

and

saying,

♦

συ

ει

ο

χριστος

ο

υιος

του

θεου

και

επιτιμων

ουκ

εια

αυτα

Thou

art

the

Christ

the

Son

♦

of God.

And

rebuking

he suffered not

♦

them

λαλειν

οτι

ηδεισαν

τον

χριστον

αυτον

ειναι

to speak

because

they knew

the 4

δε

ημερας

εξελθων

επορευθη

εις

ερημον

τοπον

και

And being 2 come 3

♦

day 1

having gone out

he went

into

a desert

place,

and

οι

οχλοι

εζητουν

αυτον

και

ηλθον

εως

αυτου

και

κατειχον

αυτον

the

crowds

sought

him,

and

came

up to

him

and

were detaining

him

του		μη		πορευεσθαι		απ		αυτων
that he might not go		♦		♦		from		them.

ο

δε

ειπεν

προς

αυτους

οτι

και

ταις

ετεραις

πολεσιν

But he

♦

said

to

them,

♦

Also

to the

other

cities

ευαγγελισασθαι

με

δει

την

βασιλειαν

του

θεου

to 4 announce 5 the 6 glad 7 tidings 8

it 1 behoves 2 me, 3

♦

the

kingdom

♦

of God;

οτι		εις		τουτο		απεσταλμαι
because		for		this		have I been sent forth.

και

ην

κηρυσσων

εν

ταις

συναγωγαις

της

γαλιλαιας

And

he was

preaching

in

the

synagogues

♦

of Galilee.
