Gospel of Mark

CHAPTER 7
And   are gathered together   to   him   the   Pharisees   and   some   of the
scribes,   having come   from   Jerusalem;
And   having seen   some   of his disciples       with defiled   hands,   that
is   unwashed,   eating   bread,   they found fault;
for the     Pharisees   and   all   the   Jews,   unless     with the fist   they wash
the   hands,   eat not,     holding   the   tradition   of the
elders;
    and   [on coming] from   the market,   unless     they wash themselves   they eat not;
and   other 2 things 3   many 1   there are   which   they received   to hold,   washings
of cups   and   vessels   and   brazen utensils   and   couches:
then   question   him   the   Pharisees   and   the   scribes,   Why
thy 3 disciples 4       walk 1 not 2     according to   the   tradition   of the
elders,   but   with unwashed   hands   eat     bread?
But he     answering   said   to them,     Well   prophesied   Esaias
concerning   you,     hypocrites,   as   it has been written,   This     people   with the
lips   me   honour,   but their heart         far   is away   from   me.
But in vain     they worship   me,   teaching   [as] teachings   injunctions
of men.
For, leaving     the   commandment     of God,   ye hold   the   tradition
of men,   washings   of vessels   and   cups,   and   other 2   like 4 [things] 5
such 3   much 1   ye do.
And   he said   to them,   Well   do ye set aside   the   commandment     of God,   that
your tradition     ye may observe.
    For Moses     said,   Honour   thy father       and   thy mother;
and,   He who   speaks evil of   father   or   mother   by death   let him die.
But ye     say,   If   say 3   a 1 man 2     to father   or     mother,   [It is] a corban,
(that   is,   a gift,)   whatever     from   me   thou mightest be profited by:--
and   no longer   ye suffer   him   anything (lit. nothing)   to do   for his father
  or   his mother,
making void   the   word     of God   by your tradition       which
ye have delivered;   and   like 3 [things] 4   such 2   many 1   ye do.
And   having called to [him]   all   the   crowd,   he said   to them,   Hear ye   me,
all,   and   understand:
Nothing   there is   from without   the   man   entering   into   him,   which
is able   him   to defile;   but   the things which   go out   from   him,
those   are   the things which   defile   the   man.
If   anyone   have   ears   to hear,   let him hear.
And   when   he went   into   a house   from   the   crowd,   asked 3   him 4
his 1 disciples 2       concerning   the   parable.
And   he says   to them,   Thus 4   also 3   ye 2   without 5 understanding 6   are? 1   Perceive ye not
that   everything   which   from without   enters   into   the   man
is not able     him   to defile?
because   it enters not     of 4 him 5   into 1   the 2   heart, 3   but   into   the
belly,   and   into   the   draught   goes out,   purifying   all   the
food.
And he said,       That which   out of   the   man   goes forth,   that
defiles   the   man.
For from within     out of   the   heart     of men     reasonings 2
evil 1   go forth,   adulteries,   fornications,   murders,
thefts,   covetous desires,   wickednesses,   guile,   licentiousness,   an eye   wicked,
blasphemy,   haughtiness,   folly:
all   these     evils   from within   go forth,   and   defile   the
man.
    And   thence   having risen up   he went away   into   the   borders   of Tyre   and   Sidon;
and   having entered   into   the   house,   no one   he wished   to know [it],   and   he could not
  be hid.
    Having 4 heard 5   for 1   a 2 woman 3   about   him,   of whom   had 4   her 1 little 2 daughter 3
a spirit   unclean,   having come   fell   at   his feet,

(now was 3     the 1   woman 2   a Greek,   Syrophoenician     by race),   and   asked
him   that   the   demon   he should cast forth   out of     daughter 2   her. 1
    But Jesus       said   to her,   Suffer   first   to be satisfied   the   children;
for not     good   it is   to take   the   bread   of the   children,   and   cast [it]   to the
dogs.
But she     answered   and   says   to him,   Yea,   Lord;   for even     the   little dogs
under   the   table   eat   of   the   crumbs   of the   children.
And   he said   to her,   Because of   this     word   go;   has gone forth   the
demon   out of   thy daughter.
And   having gone away   to     her house,     she found   the   demon
had gone forth,   and   the   daughter   laid   on   the   bed.
And   again   having departed   from   the   borders   of Tyre   and   Sidon,   he came   to
the   sea     of Galilee,   through   [the] midst   of the   borders   of Decapolis.
And   they bring   to him   a deaf man   who spoke with difficulty,   and   they beseech
him   that   he might lay   to him [his]     hand.
And   having taken away   him   from   the   crowd   apart,     he put   his fingers
to     ears 2   his, 1   and   having spit   he touched   his tongue,

and   having looked up   to   the   heaven   he groaned,   and   says   to him,   Ephphatha,
that is,     Be opened.
And   immediately   were opened   his     ears,   and   was loosed   the   band
of his tongue,       and   he spoke   rightly.
And   he charged   them   that   no one   they should tell.   But as much as     he
them   charged,   exceeding   more abundantly   they proclaimed [it]:
and   above measure   they were astonished,   saying,   Well 6   all 4 things 5
he 1 has 2 done: 3   both   the   deaf   he makes   to hear,   and   the   dumb   to speak.
