CHAPTER 1
    BEGINNING   of the   glad tidings   of Jesus   Christ,   Son     of God;
as   it has been written   in   the   prophets,   Behold,   I   send   my messenger
before   thy face,     who   shall prepare     thy way
before   thee.
[The] voice   of one crying   in   the   wilderness,   Prepare   the   way   of [the] Lord,
straight   make     paths 2   his. 1
Came 2   John 1   baptizing   in   the   wilderness,   and   proclaiming   [the] baptism
of repentance   for   remission   of sins.
And   went out   to   him   all   the   of 2 Judaea 3   country, 1   and   they
of Jerusalem,   and   were baptized 2   all 1   in   the   Jordan 2   river 1   by   him,
confessing   their sins.
And was 2   ... 1   John   clothed in   hair   of a camel,   and   a girdle
of leather   about   his loins,       and   eating   locusts   and   honey 2
wild. 1
And   he proclaimed,   saying,   He comes   who   [is] mightier   than I   after   me,   of whom
I am not     fit   having stooped down   to loose   the   thong   of his sandals.

I   indeed   baptized   you   with   water,   but he     will baptize   you   with
[the] Spirit 2   Holy. 1
And   it came to pass   in   those     days   [that] came 2   Jesus 1   from   Nazareth
of Galilee,   and   was baptized   by   John   in   the   Jordan.
And   immediately   going up   from   the   water,   he saw   parting asunder   the
heavens,   and   the   Spirit   as   a dove   descending   upon   him.
And   a voice   came   out of   the   heavens,   Thou   art   my Son       the
beloved,   in   whom   I have found delight.
And   immediately   the   Spirit   him 2   drives out 1   into   the   wilderness.
And   he was   there   in   the   wilderness   days 2   forty, 1   tempted   by
Satan,   and   was   with   the   beasts;   and   the   angels   ministered   to him.
And after     was 2 delivered 3 up 4       John 1   came     Jesus
into     Galilee,   proclaiming   the   glad tidings   of the   kingdom     of God,
and   saying,     Has 3 been 4 fulfilled 5   the 1   time, 2   and   has drawn near   the   kingdom
of God;   repent,   and   believe   in   the   glad tidings.
And walking     by   the   sea     of Galilee   he saw   Simon   and
Andrew   the   brother   of him   casting   a large net   in   the   sea;
for they were     fishers.
And   said 2   to 3 them 4     Jesus, 1   Come   after   me,   and   I will make   you
to become   fishers   of men.
And   immediately   having left   their nets       they followed   him.
And   having gone on   thence   a little   he saw   James   the [son]     of Zebedee,
and   John   his brother,       and   these   [were] in   the   ship
mending   the   nets.
And   immediately   he called   them;   and   having left   their father
Zebedee   in   the   ship   with   the   hired servants,   they went away   after   him.
And   they go   into   Capernaum;   and   immediately   on the   sabbaths
having entered   into   the   synagogue   he taught.
And   they were astonished   at   his teaching;       for he was     teaching
them   as   authority 2   having, 1   and   not   as   the   scribes.
And   there was   in   their synagogue       a man   with
an unclean spirit,     and   he cried out,
saying,   Ah!   what   to us   and   to thee,   Jesus,   Nazarene?   art thou come   to destroy
us?   I know   thee   who   thou art,   the   Holy [One]     of God.
And   rebuked 2   him 3     Jesus, 1   saying,   Be silent,   and   come forth   out of
him.
    And   having 5 thrown 6 into 8 convulsions 9   him 7   the 1   spirit 2   the 3   unclean, 4   and
having cried   with a voice 2   loud, 1   came forth   out of   him.
And   were 2 astonished 3   all, 1   so that   they questioned together   among   themselves,
saying,   What   is   this?   what     teaching 3     new 2   this, 1   that   with   authority
even   the   spirits   the   unclean   he commands,   and   they obey   him!
And went out     the   fame   of him   immediately   in   all   the   around 2 country 1
Galilee.
And   immediately   out of   the   synagogue   having gone forth   they came   into   the   house
of Simon   and   Andrew,   with   James   and   John.
And the     mother-in-law   of Simon   was laying   in a fever.   And   immediately
they speak   to him   about   her.
And   having come to [her]   he raised up   her,   having taken   her hand.       And
left 3   her 4   the 1   fever 2   immediately,   and   she ministered   to them.
Evening 2   and 1   being come,   when   went down   the   sun,   they brought   to   him
all   who   ill 2   were 1   and   those   possessed by demons;
and   the   city 2   whole 1   gathered 4 together 5   was 3   at   the   door.
And   he healed   many   that were ill     of various   diseases,   and
demons 2   many 1   he cast out,   and   suffered not   ... 3   to speak 4   the 1   demons; 2
because   they knew   him.
And   very early   while yet night     having risen up   he went out   and   departed   into
desert 2   a place, 1   and there   was praying.
    And   went 6 after 7   him 8     Simon 1   and 2   those 3   with 4   him; 5
and   having found   him   they say   to him,     All   seek   thee.
And   he says   to them,   Let us go   into   the   neighbouring   country towns,   that   there also
I may preach;   for 2   this 3   because 1   have I come forth.
And   he was   preaching   in   their synagogues       in   all
Galilee,   and   the   demons   casting out.
And   comes 3   to 4   him 5   a 1 leper, 2   beseeching   him   and   kneeling down to
him,   and   saying   to him,     If   thou wilt   thou art able   me   to cleanse.
And Jesus       being moved with compassion,   having stretched out [his]
hand   he touched   him,   and   says   to him,   I will,   be thou cleansed.
And   he having spoken,     immediately   departed   from   him   the   leprosy,   and
he was cleansed.
And   having strictly charged   him,   immediately   he sent away   him,
And   says   to him,   See   to no one   anything (lit. nothing)   thou speak;   but   go,
thyself   shew   to the   priest,   and   offer   for   thy cleansing
what   ordered 2   Moses, 1   for   a testimony   to them.
But he     having gone out   began   to proclaim [it]   much   and   to spread abroad   the
matter,   so that   no longer   he   was able   openly   into [the]   city   to enter;
but   without   in   desert   places   was,   and   they came   to   him   from every quarter.
