Gospel of Matthew

CHAPTER 22
And   answering     Jesus   again   spoke   to them   in   parables,   saying,
    Has 6 become 7 like 8   the 1   kingdom 2   of 3 the 4   heavens 5   to a man   a king,   who
made   a wedding feast   for his son:
and   sent   his bondmen       to call   those who
having been invited   to   the   wedding feast,   and   they would not     come.
Again   he sent   other   bondmen,   saying,   Say   to those who
having been invited,   Behold,   my dinner       I prepared,   my oxen
and   the   fatted beasts   are killed,   and   all things [are]   ready;   come   to   the
wedding feast.
But they     being negligent of [it]   went away,   one     to     his own   field,
and another     to   his commerce.
And the     rest,   having laid hold of   his bondmen,       insulted   and
killed [them].
And having heard [it]     the   king   was wroth,   and   having sent     his forces
he destroyed   those murderers,       and     their city
he burnt.
Then   he says   to his bondmen,       The   indeed 3   wedding 1 feast 2   ready 5
is, 4   but those who     having been invited   were not     worthy;
Go   therefore   into   the   thoroughfares   of the   highways,   and   as many as
ye shall find,     invite   to   the   wedding feast.
And   having 3 gone 4 out 5   those 1 bondmen 2       into   the   highways
brought together   all   as many as   they found,   evil 2   both 1   and   good;   and
became 4 full 5   the 1   wedding 2 feast 3   of guests.
And coming 3 in 4     the 1   king 2   to see   the   guests   beheld   there
  a man   not   clothed   with a garment   of [the] wedding feast;
and   he says   to him,   Friend,   how   didst thou enter   here   not   having   a garment
of [the] wedding feast?   But he     was speechless.
Then   said   the   king   to the   servants,   Having bound   him   feet   and
hands   take away   him   and   cast out [him]   into   the   darkness   the   outer:   there
shall be   the   weeping   and   the   gnashing   of the   teeth.
For many     are   called,   but few     chosen.
Then   having gone   the   Pharisees   counsel 2   took 1   how   him
they might ensare   in   discourse.
And   they send   to him   their disciples       with   the
Herodians,   saying,   Teacher,   we know   that   true   thou art,   and   the
way     of God   in   truth   teachest,   and     there is care   to thee   about   no one,
for not 3     thou 1 lookest 2   on [the]   appearance   of men;
tell   therefore   us,   what   thou 2   thinkest? 1   Is it lawful   to give   tribute   to Ceasar   or
ου
not?
But knowing 2       Jesus 1   their wickedness       said,   Why   me
do ye tempt,   hypocrites?
Shew   me   the   coin   of the   tribute.   And they     presented   to him
a denarius.
And   he says   to them,   Whose [is]   this image       and   the   inscription?
They say   to him,   Ceasar’s.   Then   he says   to them,   Render   then   the things
of Ceasar   to Ceasar,   and   the things     of God     to God.
And   having heard   they wondered;   and   leaving   him   went away.
On   that     day   came   to him   Sadducees,   who   say
there is not     a resurrection,   and   they questioned   him,
saying,   Teacher,   Moses   said,   If   any one   should die   not   having   children,
shall 3 marry 4   his 1 brother 2         wife 6   his, 5   and
shall raise up   seed   to his brother.
Now there were     with   us   seven   brothers;   and   the   first   having married
died,   and   not   having   seed   left   his wife
to his brother.
In like manner   also   the   second,   also   the   third,   unto   the   seven.
And last     of all   died   also   the   woman.
In 2   the 3   therefore 1   resurrection   of which   of the   seven   shall she be   wife?   for all
had   her.
And answering       Jesus   said   to them,   Ye err,   not   knowing   the   scriptures,
  nor   the   power     of God.
For in     the   resurrection   neither   do they marry   nor   are given in marriage,   but   as
angels     of God   in   heaven   they are.
But concerning     the   resurrection   of the   dead,   have ye not read
that which   was spoken   to you   by     God,   saying,
I   am   the   God   of Abraham   and   the   God   of Isaac   and   the   God   of Jacob?   Not 3
is 2     God 1   God   of [the] dead,   but   of [the] living.
And   having heard,   the   crowds   were astonished   at   his teaching.
But the     Pharisees,   having heard   that   he had silenced   the   Sadducees,
were gathered   together,
    and   questioned 9 [him] 10   one 1   of 2   them 3   a 4 doctor 5 of 6 the 7 law, 8   tempting   him,
and   saying,
Teacher,   which   commandment 4   [is 1 the] 2 greatest 3   in   the   law?
And Jesus       said   to him,   Thou shalt love [the]   Lord     God 2   thy 1
with   all   thy heart,       and   with   all   thy soul,       and   with   all
thy mind.
This   is   [the] first   and   great   commandment.
And [the] second [is]     like   it,   Thou shalt love     thy neighbour     as
thyself.
On   these     two   commandments   all   the   law   and   the   prophets
hang.
    But having 3 been 4 assembled 5 together 6     the 1   Pharisees 2   questioned 8   them 9
    Jesus, 7
saying,   What   ye 2   think 1   concerning   the   Christ?   of whom   son 3   is 1 he? 2
They say   to him,   Of David.
He says   to them,   How   then   David 2   in 3   spirit 4   Lord 7   him 6   does 1 call 5
saying,
Said 3   the 1   Lord 2   to my Lord,       Sit   on   my right hand     until
I place   thine enemies       [as] a footstool   for thy feet.
If   therefore   David   calls   him   Lord,   how   his son   his   is he?
And   no one   was able   him   to answer   a word   nor   dared   anyone
from   that     day   to question   him   any more (lit. no more).
