Gospel of Matthew

 

CHAPTER 15
  1  τοτε   προσερχονται   τω   ιησου   οι   απο   ιεροσολυμων   γραμματεις   και  
    Then   come   ♦   to Jesus   the   from 4   Jerusalem 5   scribes 1   and 2  
φαρισαιοι   λεγοντες    
Pharisees, 3   saying,    
  2  δια   τι   οι   μαθηται   σου   παραβαινουσιν   την   παραδοσιν   των
    Why   ♦   disciples 3   your 2   transgress 1   the   tradition   of the   elders?
  πρεσβυτερων   ου   γαρ   νιπτονται   τας   χειρας   αυτων   οταν   αρτον    
  not 4   for 1   they 2 wash 3   their hands   ♦   ♦   when   bread   they eat.    
  3  ο   δε   αποκριθεις   ειπεν   αυτοις   δια   τι   και   υμεις   παραβαινετε  
    But he   ♦   answering   said   to them,   Why   also 3   ye 2   transgress 1   the  
την   εντολην   του   θεου   δια   την   παραδοσιν    
commandment   ♦   of God   on account of   your tradition?   ♦   ♦    
  4  ο   γαρ   θεος   ενετειλατο   λεγων   τιμα   τον   πατερα   σου   και   την  
    ♦   For   God   commanded,   saying,   Honour   thy father   ♦   ♦   and   ♦  
μητερα   και   ο   κακολογων   πατερα   η   μητερα   θανατω   τελευτατω    
mother;   and,   He who   speaks evil of   father   or   mother,   by death   let him die.    
  5  υμεις   δε   λεγετε   ος   αν   ειπη   τω   πατρι   η   τη   μητρι   δωρον   ο  
    But ye   ♦   say,   Whoever   ♦   shall say   ♦   to father   or   ♦   mother,   [It is] a gift   whatever  
εαν   εξ   εμου   ωφεληθης    
♦   by   me   thou mightest be profited--:    
  6  και   ου   μη   τιμηση   τον   πατερα   αυτου   η   την   μητερα   αυτου  
    and   in no wise   ♦   honour   his father   ♦   ♦   or   his mother:   ♦   ♦  
και   ηκυρωσατε   την   εντολην   του   θεου   δια   την   παραδοσιν   υμων
and   ye made void   the   commandment   ♦   of God   on account of   ♦   tradition 2   your. 1
   
  7  υποκριται   καλως   προεφητευσεν   περι   υμων   ησαιας   λεγων    
    Hypocrites!   well   prophesied   concerning   you   Esaias,   saying,    
  8  εγγιζει   μοι   ο   λαος   ουτος   τω   στοματι   αυτων   και   τοις  
    Draws near   to me   this people   ♦   ♦   ♦   with mouth 2   their, 1   and   with the lips  
χειλεσιν   με   τιμα   η   δε   καρδια   αυτων   πορρω   απεχει   απ  
♦   me 3   it 1 honours; 2   but their heart   ♦   ♦   ♦   far   is away   from  
εμου    
me:    
  9  ματην   δε   σεβονται   με   διδασκοντες   διδασκαλιας   ενταλματα  
    But in vain   ♦   they worship   me,   teaching [as]   teachings   injuctions  
ανθρωπων    
of men.    
  10  και   προσκαλεσαμενος   τον   οχλον   ειπεν   αυτοις   ακουετε   και   συνιετε    
    And   having called to [him]   the   crowd   he said   to them,   Hear   and   understand!    
  11  ου   το   εισερχομενον   εις   το   στομα   κοινοι   τον   ανθρωπον   αλλα  
    not   that which   enters   into   the   mouth   defiles   the   man;   but  
το   εκπορευομενον   εκ   του   στοματος   τουτο   κοινοι   τον   ανθρωπον    
that which   goes forth   out of   the   mouth,   this   defiles   the   man.    
  12  τοτε   προσελθοντες   οι   μαθηται   αυτου   ειπον   αυτω   οιδας  
    Then   having come to [him]   his disciples   ♦   ♦   said   to him,   Knowest thou  
οτι   οι   φαρισαιοι   ακουσαντες   τον   λογον   εσκανδαλισθησαν    
that   the   Pharisees   having heard   the   saying   were offended?    
  13  ο   δε   αποκριθεις   ειπεν   πασα   φυτεια   ην   ουκ   εφυτευσεν   ο  
    But he   ♦   answering   said,   Every   plant   which   not 6   has 5 planted 7   my 1 Father 2  
πατηρ   μου   ο   ουρανιος   εκριζωθησεται    
♦   ♦   the 3 heavenly, 4   ♦   shall be rooted up.    
  14  αφετε   αυτους   οδηγοι   εισιν   τυφλοι   τυφλων   τυφλος   δε   τυφλον  
    Leave   them;   leaders 4   they 1 are 2   blind 3   of blind;   blind 3   and 1   blind 5  
εαν   οδηγη   αμφοτεροι   εις   βοθυνον   πεσουνται    
if 2   lead, 4   both   into   a pit   will fall.    
  15  αποκριθεις   δε   ο   πετρος   ειπεν   αυτω   φρασον   ημιν   την   παραβολην
    And answering   ♦   ♦   Peter   said   to him,   Expound   to us   this parable.   ♦
  ταυτην    
  ♦    
  16  ο   δε   ιησους   ειπεν   ακμην   και   υμεις   ασυνετοι   εστε    
    But Jesus   ♦   ♦   said,   Still 4   also 3   ye 2   without 5 understanding 6   are? 1    
  17  ουπω   νοειτε   οτι   παν   το   εισπορευομενον   εις   το   στομα   εις  
    not 3 yet 4   perceive 1 ye 2   that   everything   which   enters   into   the   mouth   into  
την   κοιλιαν   χωρει   και   εις   αφεδρωνα   εκβαλλεται    
the   belly   goes,   and   into   [the] draught   is cast forth?    
  18  τα   δε   εκπορευομενα   εκ   του   στοματος   εκ   της   καρδιας
    But the things which,   ♦   go forth   out of   the   mouth   out of   the   heart
  εξερχεται   κακεινα   κοινοι   τον   ανθρωπον    
  come forth,   and these   defile   the   man.    
  19  εκ   γαρ   της   καρδιας   εξερχονται   διαλογισμοι   πονηροι   φονοι  
    For out of   for because   the   heart   come forth   reasonings 2   evil, 1   murders,  
μοιχειαι   πορνειαι   κλοπαι   ψευδομαρτυριαι   βλασφημιαι    
adulteries,   fornications,   thefts,   false-witnessings,   blasphemies.    
  20  ταυτα   εστιν   τα   κοινουντα   τον   ανθρωπον   το   δε  
    These things   are   they which   defile   the   man;   but the   ♦  
ανιπτοις   χερσιν   φαγειν   ου   κοινοι   τον   ανθρωπον    
with 2 unwashed 3   hands 4   eating 1   defiles not   ♦   the   man.    
  21  και   εξελθων   εκειθεν   ο   ιησους   ανεχωρησεν   εις   τα   μερη   τυρου   και  
    And   going forth   thence   ♦   Jesus   withdrew   to   the   parts   of Tyre   and  
σιδωνος    
Sidon;    
  22  και   ιδου   γυνη   χαναναια   απο   των   οριων   εκεινων  
    and   behold,   a woman 2   Cananaean 1   from   those borders   ♦   ♦  
εξελθουσα   εκραυγασεν   αυτω   λεγουσα   ελεησον   με   κυριε   υιε   δαβιδ  
having come out   cried   to him,   saying,   Have pity on   me,   Lord,   Son   of David;  
η   θυγατηρ   μου   κακως   δαιμονιζεται    
my daughter   ♦   ♦   miserably   is possessed by a demon.    
  23  ο   δε   ουκ   απεκριθη   αυτη   λογον   και   προσελθοντες  
    But he   ♦   answered not 2   ♦   her 1   a word.   And   having come to [him]  
οι   μαθηται   αυτου   ηρωτων   αυτον   λεγοντες   απολυσον   αυτην   οτι  
his disciples   ♦   ♦   asked   him,   saying,   Dismiss   her,   for  
κραζει   οπισθεν   ημων    
she cries   after   us.    
  24  ο   δε   αποκριθεις   ειπεν   ουκ   απεσταλην   ει   μη   εις   τα  
    But he   ♦   answering   said,   I was not sent   ♦   except   ♦   to   the  
προβατα   τα   απολωλοτα   οικου   ισραηλ    
sheep   the   lost   of [the] house   of Israel.    
  25  η   δε   ελθουσα   προσεκυνει   αυτω   λεγουσα   κυριε   βοηθει   μοι    
    But she   ♦   having come   did homage   to him,   saying,   Lord,   help   me!    
  26  ο   δε   αποκριθεις   ειπεν   ουκ   εστιν   καλον   λαβειν   τον   αρτον   των  
    But he   ♦   answering   said,   Not 3   it 1 is 2   good   to take   the   bread   of the  
τεκνων   και   βαλειν   τοις   κυναριοις    
children,   and   to cast [it]   to the   little dogs.    
  27  η   δε   ειπεν   ναι   κυριε   και   γαρ   τα   κυναρια   εσθιει   απο   των   ψιχιων
    But she   ♦   said,   Yea,   Lord:   for even   ♦   the   little dogs   eat   of   the   crumbs
  των   πιπτοντων   απο   της   τραπεζης   των   κυριων   αυτων    
  which   fall   from   the   table   of their masters.   ♦   ♦    
  28  τοτε   αποκριθεις   ο   ιησους   ειπεν   αυτη   ω   γυναι   μεγαλη   σου   η   πιστις  
    Then   answering   ♦   Jesus   said   to her,   O   woman,   great [is]   thy   ♦   faith:  
γενηθητω   σοι   ως   θελεις   και   ιαθη   η   θυγατηρ   αυτης   απο  
be it   to thee   as   thou desirest.   And   was healed   her daughter   ♦   ♦   from  
της   ωρας   εκεινης    
that hour.   ♦   ♦    
  29  και   μεταβας   εκειθεν   ο   ιησους   ηλθεν   παρα   την   θαλασσαν   της  
    And   having departed   thence   ♦   Jesus   came   towards   the   sea   ♦  
γαλιλαιας   και   αναβας   εις   το   ορος   εκαθητο   εκει    
of Galilee;   and   having gone up   into   the   mountain   he was sitting   there.    
  30  και   προσηλθον   αυτω   οχλοι   πολλοι   εχοντες   μεθ   εαυτων   χωλους  
    And   came   to him   crowds 2   great, 1   having   with   them   lame,  
τυφλους   κωφους   κυλλους   και   ετερους   πολλους   και   ερριψαν   αυτους  
blind,   dumb,   maimed,   and   others 2   many, 1   and   they cast down   them  
παρα   τους   ποδας   του   ιησου   και   εθεραπευσεν   αυτους    
at   the   feet   ♦   of Jesus,   and   he healed   them;    
  31  ωστε   τους   οχλους   θαυμασαι   βλεποντας   κωφους   λαλουντας   κυλλους  
    so that   the   crowds   wondered,   seeing   dumb   speaking,   maimed  
υγιεις   χωλους   περιπατουντας   και   τυφλους   βλεποντας   και   εδοξασαν   τον
sound,   lame   walking,   and   blind   seeing;   and   they glorified   the
  θεον   ισραηλ    
  God   of Israel.    
  32  ο   δε   ιησους   προσκαλεσαμενος   τους   μαθητας   αυτου   ειπεν  
    But Jesus   ♦   ♦   having called to [him]   ♦   disciples 2   his 1   said,  
σπλαγχνιζομαι   επι   τον   οχλον   οτι   ηδη   ημερας   τρεις  
I am moved with compassion   towards   the   crowd,   because   already   days 2   three 1  
προσμενουσιν   μοι   και   ουκ   εχουσιν   τι   φαγωσιν   και   απολυσαι  
they continue   with me,   and   have not   ♦   what   they may eat;   and   to send away  
αυτους   νηστεις   ου   θελω   μηποτε   εκλυθωσιν   εν   τη   οδω    
them   fasting   I am not willing,   ♦   lest   they faint   in   the   way.    
  33  και   λεγουσιν   αυτω   οι   μαθηται   αυτου   ποθεν   ημιν   εν   ερημια  
    And   say, 3   to 4 him 5   his disciples,   ♦   ♦   Whence   to us   in   a desert  
αρτοι   τοσουτοι   ωστε   χορτασαι   οχλον   τοσουτον    
loaves   so many   as   to satisfy   a crowd   so great?    
  34  και   λεγει   αυτοις   ο   ιησους   ποσους   αρτους   εχετε   οι   δε   ειπον  
    And   says 2   to 3 them 4   ♦   Jesus, 1   How many   loaves   have ye?   And they   ♦   said,  
επτα   και   ολιγα   ιχθυδια    
Seven,   and   a few   small fishes.    
  35  και   εκελευσεν   τοις   οχλοις   αναπεσειν   επι   την   γην    
    And   he commanded   the   crowds   to recline   on   the   ground;    
  36  και   λαβων   τους   επτα   αρτους   και   τους   ιχθυας   ευχαριστησας  
    and   having taken   the   seven   loaves   and   the   fishes,   having given thanks  
εκλασεν   και   εδωκεν   τοις   μαθηταις   αυτου   οι   δε   μαθηται   τω  
he broke   and   gave   to his disciples,   ♦   ♦   and the   ♦   disciples   to the  
οχλω    
crowd.    
  37  και   εφαγον   παντες   και   εχορτασθησαν   και   ηραν   το  
    And   ate 2   all, 1   and   were satisfied:   and   they took up   that which  
περισσευον   των   κλασματων   επτα   σπυριδας   πληρεις    
was over and above   of the   fragments   seven   baskets   full;    
  38  οι   δε   εσθιοντες   ησαν   τετρακισχιλιοι   ανδρες   χωρις   γυναικων  
    and they who   ♦   ate   were   four thousand   men,   besides   women  
και   παιδιων    
and   children.    
  39  και   απολυσας   τους   οχλους   ενεβη   εις   το   πλοιον   και   ηλθεν   εις   τα  
    And   having dismissed   the   crowds   he entered   into   the   ship,   and   came   to   the  
ορια   μαγδαλα    
borders   of Magdala.
