Gospel of Matthew

CHAPTER 4
Then     Jesus   was led up   into   the   wilderness   by   the   Spirit   to be tempted
by   the   devil.
And   having fasted   days 2   forty 1   and   nights 2   forty, 1
afterwards   he hungered.
And   having come   to him   the   tempter   said,   If   Son 3   thou 1 art 2     of God,   speak
that   these stones       loaves 3   may 1 become. 2
But he     answering   said,   It has been written,   Not   by   bread   alone   shall live 2
man, 1   but   by   every   word   going out   through   [the] mouth   of God.
then   takes 3   him 4   the 1   devil 2   to   the   holy   city,   and   sets
him   upon   the   edge   of the   temple,
and   says   to him,   If   Son 3   thou 1 art 2     of God,   cast   thyself   down:
for it has been written,       To his angels       he will give charge
concerning   thee,   and   in   [their] hands   shall they bear   thee,   lest   thou strike   against
a stone   thy foot.
Said   to him     Jesus,   Again   it has been written,   Thou shall not tempt
[the] Lord     God 2   thy. 1
Again   takes 3   him   the 1   devil 2   to   a mountain   high 2
exceedingly, 1   and   shews   to him   all   the   kingdoms   of the   world   and
their glory,
and   says   to him,   These 2 things 3   all 1   to thee   will I give   if   falling down
thou wilt worship   me.
Then   says 2   to 3 him 4     Jesus, 1   Get thee away,   Satan;   for it has been written,
[The] Lord   thy God       shalt thou worship,   and   him   alone   shalt thou serve.
Then   leaves 3   him 4   the 1   devil, 2   and   behold,   angels   came   and
ministered   to him.
But having 2 heard 3       Jesus 1   that   John   was delivered up,   he withdrew   into
  Galilee:
and   having left     Nazareth,   having come   he dwelt   at   Capernaum,
which   [is] on the sea-side,   in   [the] borders   of Zebulon   and   Nephthalim,
that   might be fulfilled   that which   was spoken   by   Esaias   the   prophet,   saying,
Land   of Zebulon   and,   land   of Nephthalim,   way   of [the] sea,   beyond   the   Jordan,
  Galilee   of the   nations.
the   people   which   was sitting   in   darkness   has seen   a light 2   great, 1   and   to those which
were sitting   in [the]   country   and   shadow   of death,   light   has sprung up   to them.
    From   that time   began     Jesus   to proclaim   and   to say,   Repent;
for has drawn near     the   kingdom   of the   heavens.
And walking 2       Jesus 1   by   the   sea     of Galilee   he saw   two
brothers,   Simon   who   is called   Peter,   and   Andrew   his brother,
casting   a large net   into   the   sea,   for they were
  fishers:
and   he says   to them,   Come   after   me,   and   I will make   you   fishers   of men.
And they     immediately   having left   the   nets,   followed   him.
And   having gone on   thence,   he saw   other   two   brothers,   James   the [son]
of Zebedee,   and   John   his brother,       in   the   ship   with
Zebedee   their father       mending     nets 2   their, 1   and
he called   them;
and they     immediately   having left   the   ship   and   their father
followed   him.
And   went 2 about 3   all 4     Galilee 5     Jesus, 1   teaching   in
their synagogues,       and   proclaiming   the   glad tidings   of the
kingdom,   and   healing   every   disease   and   every   bodily weakness   among   the
λαω
people.
And   went out   the   fame   of him   into   all     Syria.   And   they brought
to him   all   who were ill,       by various   diseases   and   torments
oppressed,   and   possessed by demons,   and   lunatics,   and
paralytics;   and   he healed   them.
And   followed 3   him 4   crowds 2   great 1   from     Galilee   and
Decapolis   and   Jerusalem   and   Judea   and   beyond   the   Jordan.
