Gospel of Matthew

CHAPTER 2
Now Jesus       having been born   in   Bethlehem     of Judaea,   in   [the] days
of Herod   the   king,   behold,   magi   from [the]   east   arrived   at
Jerusalem,
saying,   Where   is   he who   has been born   King   of the   Jews?   for we saw
his     star   in   the   east,   and   are come   to do homage   to him.
Having 5 heard 6   but 1   Herod 2   the 3   king 4   he was troubled,   and   all
Jerusalem   with   him.
And   having gathered together   all   the   chief priests   and   scribes   of the
people,   he inquired   of   them   where   the   Christ   should be born.
And they     said   to him,   In   Bethlehem     of Judaea:   for thus
it has been written   by   the   prophet,
And   thou,   Bethlehem,   land   of Juda,   in no wise   least   art   among   the   governors
of Juda,   out 2   of 3 thee 4   for 1   shall go forth   a leader,   who   shall shepherd   my people
      Israel.
Then   Herod,   secretly 2   having called 1   the   magi,   inquired accurately   of   them
the   time   of the   appearing 2   star. 1
And   having sent   them   to   Bethlehem,   he said,   Having gone,   accurately
inquire   for   the   little child;   and when     ye shall have found [him]   bring word back
to me,   that   I also   having come   may do homage   to him.
And they     having heard   the   king,   went away;   and   behold,   the   star,
which   they saw   in   the   east,   went before   them,   until   having come   it stood   over
where   was   the   little child.
And having seen     the   star,   they rejoiced [with]   joy   great 2   exceedingly. 1
And   having come   into   the   house,   they found   the   little child   with   Mary   his mother,
and   having fallen down   did homage   to him:   and   having opened
treasures 2   their 1   they offered   to him   gifts;   gold   and   frankincense
and   myrrh.
And   having been divinely instructed   in   a dream   not   to return   to   Herod,   by
another   way   they withdrew   into   their own country.
Now 2 having 3 withdrawn     they, 1   behold,   an angel   of [the] Lord   appears   in
a dream     to Joseph,   saying,   Having risen   take with [thee]   the   little child   and   his mother,
    and   flee   into   Egypt,   and   be   there   until   I shall tell     thee;
is 3 about 4   for 1   Herod 2   to seek   the   little child,     to destroy   him.
And he     having risen   took with [him]   the   little child   and   his mother
by night,   and   withdrew   into   Egypt,
and   was   there   until   the   death   of Herod:   that   might be fulfilled   that which
was spoken   by   the   Lord   through   the   prophet,   saying,   Out   of Egypt
have I called   my son.
Then   Herod,   having seen   that   he was mocked   by   the   magi,   was enraged   greatly,
and   having sent   he put to death   all   the   boys   that [were]   in   Bethlehem   and
in   all   its borders,       from   two years old   and   under,   according to
the   time   which   he had accurately inquired   from   the   magi.
Then   was fulfilled   that which   was spoken   by   Jeremias   the   prophet,
saying,
A voice   in   Rama   was heard,   lamentation   and   weeping   and   mourning 2   great, 1
Rachel   weeping [for]   her children,       and   not 2   would 1   be comforted,
because   they are not.
But having 2 died 3       Herod, 1   behold,   an angel   of [the] Lord   in   a dream
appears   to   Joseph   in   Egypt,
saying,   Having risen   take with [thee]   the   little child   and   his mother,       and
go   into   [the] land   of Israel:   for they have died     who   were seeking   the   life
of the   little child.
And he     having risen   took with [him]   the   little child   and   his mother,
and   came   into   [the] land   of Israel.
Having 2 heard 3   but 1   that   Archelaus   reigns   over     Judaea   instead of
Herod   his father,       he was afraid   there   to go;
having 2 been 3 divinely 4 instructed 5   and 1   in   a dream,   he withdrew   into   the   parts
of Galilee:
and   having come   he dwelt   in   a city   called   Nazareth;   so that
should be fulfilled   that which   was spoken   by   the   prophets,   that   a Nazaraean
shall he be called.
